Dear Chetna, look carefully I've crossed those two zeros by L1 and L2 lines. I've drawn lines in the order row2(L1 with 2 zeros),row3(L2 with 2 zeros),row4(L3 with 2 zeros) and column1(L4 with 1 zero). But you could draw lines as column1(L1 with 2 zeros),column2(L2 with 2 zeros),column3(L3 with 2 zeros) and column4(L4 with 1 zero). The answer will be the same. Order of drawing lines doesn't matter as long as you follow the rules.

sir, just after step 2 we got order of matrix as L1,L2,L2,& L4 that means 2 zeroes in row and column...than y u did again for getting optimal solution...

What if uncovered elements have zero after the drawing of lines for first time As u said we have to choose smallest in uncovered if there is a zero it makes no sense in adding and subtracting that smllest number(0)

plz tell me.. how do we get to know the qs is minimization type problem or maximization?? Because.. in minimization type.. we subtract lowest no. from each element of each row. (step 1) whereas in maximization - we first subtract each element from the overall aximum number in mtrix ( step 1)

You have to cover all the zeroes...so there will be no zeroes left in the uncovered elements....:)
