This is great info for beginners. Just a small note, when listening to the ATIS they said sierra but your text says C1600Z.

Which is additionally ironic since he later said it's easy to mishear an S in spoken text :P

@@_ircghost Jason did nothing wrong here, it was me (Video Editor) that did this mistake.

So, I get that in the US it is common practice to clear multiple aircraft onto a runway at the same time, but it seems like we've had multiple situations in recent years where this has caused problems, and if a radio failed at the wrong moment and somebody failed to receive a go around instruction there could be a real catastrpophe.
It seems like a simple solution to the example in this video would be to just only issue one clearance to use the runway at a time. So if the departing aircraft was given a takeoff clearance then the landing aircraft would not receive a landing clearance. Then if for whatever reason the departing aircraft failed to clear the runway, the landing aircraft would not have a clearance and would perform a go-around, even if they couldn't see the runway. Alternatively if the landing aircraft had already been given a landing clearance, then the departing aircraft would just have to hold short until it arrived, unless the controller wanted to cancel the landing clearance, receive confirmation, and then issue a takeoff clearance.
Sure, that would involve more communications, and if a clearance wasn't issued on time it would result in more go-arounds, so this might require more separation. However, it just seems way safer to only clear one aircraft at a time onto the runway. What is the point in requiring a clearance in the first place if they are issued in a manner that doesn't ensure de-confliction?

There is so much traffic it has to be efficient otherwise there would be major delays. But, you're right it's safe to do it the other way. I think it's 3,000' horizontal separation (I may be wrong) they use and they try to pack them in. Take a look at the USAir and SkyWest crash in LAX when it goes wrong.

I really liked this video; however, FS2020 is almost the worst possible source for ATC examples.

There's so much detail from the very beginning. There's no overview of what a chart does or is for, really. Instead, we get minute detail starting at the top left and just going down the whole page. I just wonder if this couldn't be presented hitting the "high points" first. I'm just trying to get an idea of what the heck this is for and how it's used. These people know so much that they give us all the important nuance, but I'm just not ready for it.

I will not be not able to remember that long taxi instructions.😂

It is very difficult to write down long taxi instructions, one way around it is to write down abbreviations.
We are also working on an update that will allow you to draw your taxi instructions directly on the taxi chart, we do not have a date for that feature, but it is coming.
