    your videos have taught me so much knowledge, and given me more confidence in the equipment I jump . Some day I hope to own my own rig and to be able to tweak it with your guidelines .Thank you for all you do .

    Love the 'recognise the Dunning Krugger effect' at the beginning there. Great video.

    Awesome love this video specially the last part , it would awesome if you make the last part separate in 3 to 4 mints because it will easier to share and for more followers and more benefits .
    enjoying your videos :)

      Thank you Saif.
      Thank you also for your recommendation.
      I'm so sorry to make such long videos,
      when I see other people making fabulous short stuff, I'm amazed at the skills.
      It may not seem like it but mine are even shorter than I'd like, to explain what I have to say.
      One day maybe I'll get better at explaining, until then maybe watch a x2 speed,
      I think for my videos we need x8 speed : )
      Wish you all the best,
      Colin.
      p.s. Sorry about the newest 41 minute on, The Link.

    Hi Colin.
    Awesome stuff for any skydiver, not only for those interested in a little bit of rigging (or more). Precise, educational, and eye-opening.
    I watched all of your videos multiple times and I always go back to them if I want to refresh a notion or verify something I'm not sure of.
    I now have a MarS Real-X container that is designed to have an RSL on the left side.
    What is your thought of the left side RSL design, given the fact that I don't think there is a split RSL with Collins's lanyard designed for a left-sided RSL. What would be the solution for this design if one has a left RSL riser failure? Any thoughts on the matter are appreciated.
    Thank you so much and good luck with the future content!

    Another question.
    At 18:29, flip through of the rings- does that mean that the packer missed the flip through, the TI missed the flip through, and everyone else looking at them on the way to the plane missed it as well?

      Yes Abdul, you got it.
      There is an expression "Can't see the forest for the trees"
      Complacency
      Human Factors
      The Pilot must make a PreFlight Inspection.

    I never heard about the Collins lanyard before tonight either. How do I make sure i can get one for my (future) Rig?

    Haha "tap the thumbs down twice". I will be practicing my EP's in the sky next jump.

    Thanks Colin great explanation specially the part about the split RSL modification (yellow Collin's lanyard) and it's safety function. UPT 's Vector and Sigma in my opinion are state of the art concerning safety and semplicity and the Collin's lanyard a simple but great idea.

    Hi Colin
    Great videos! 👍🏼
    I had a question about the incorrect routing of the metal tube on 10:11 of the video. Why did metal tube needed to be moved to the the right of the 3 ring system, and what could potentially happen if the tube is kept on the left of the 3 ring system?

    • @thomson1963
      @thomson1963  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Another good question Abdul,
      at 05:48 you can see a snag of a 3Ring that may have been a result of a poorly routed Rh Housing.
      Keep in mind Sport Rigs have the 3Ring Handel on the inside of the Rh MLW and the Housings run up the inside,
      Tandem Rigs have the Handels on the outside of the MLW and the housings run up the outside of the MLW.

    Awesome video Collin, great work! What do you think about the mirages trap system?

    • @thomson1963
      @thomson1963  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks Gregor.
      The Mirage Trap, is one of the ways to do it,
      there are many very interesting designs, starting it appear.
      So many brilliant engineers and designers out there,
      I think its marvelous what people can develop when they put their mind to it.
      Time will tell, the Trap has not been out in the world too long,
      if we could predict the future, would't that be great.
      I just so happened to visiting DeLand in 1992 when RWS (now UUPT) issued there SB#010592
      ( uptvector.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/09225.pdf )
      that day I was in another manufacturers facility, the owner, proudly walked in with the SB in his hand and said,
      here is a declaration from Booth, that he can't build a Ty17 riser.
      Within six months there had been a fatality, on that manufactures equipment, resulting from a riser failure.
      (people in glass houses, should not throw stones)
      The Collins Lanyard and later the Split Collins Lanyard, is not there as a profit generating item ("But wait there's more")
      I think it's unfortunate that more rigs don't have it.
      Attempting to make a MARD, a quick retrofit kit, just to tick a box is not necessarily the solution.
      "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler." (quote from Einstein)
      The SkyHook today, is not the same SkyHook I first saw, its evolved,
      because it had to, as lessons were learnt in the real world,
      not only on the drawing board.
      I wish more designers, would read more history books.

      @@thomson1963 I totally agree with you about the Collin's lanyard ... that it's unfortunate that more rigs don't have it.

    Where's the other videos?

  • @Statureman
    @Statureman 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You said "not a fan of the RSL" is that just for tandem rigs or in general?

    • @thomson1963
      @thomson1963  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Statureman, thank you for taking the time to watch and comment.
      Sorry for the unclear video, I most certainly am a big fan of the RSL/SkyHook and AAD for every rig, Tandem, Student,
      Sport and high speed canopy pilot.
      Reminds me of the lovely quote from Alan Greenspan;
      " I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm not sure you realise, that what you heard, is not what I meant. "
      When I say "not a fan" it's in the context solutions I mention (facetiously) to avoid a similar tragedy as what happened with the Tandem pair,
      The solution is to Stop going Low, use an AAD and RSL/SkyHook + all the upgrades (that lead to the introduction of the CollinsLanyard and later the SplitLanyard + StagingLoop)
