  • What was the Staffordshire Bull Terrier bred for? TRUTH REVEALED in today's video. 🐕
FREE STAFFY TRAINING GUIDE 👉 staffydog.com/free-staffy-tra...
The Staffordshire Bull Terrier has a bad reputation, and it's easy to see why when you take a look at the Staffy's history.
The Staffy was originally bred to be a fighting dog. They were used for bull and bear baiting and many people used them to supplement their income (if they were a winning Staffy).
Staffordshire Bull Terriers originated in the Staffordshire area of England and even though there are no official records, it is believed they were bred from multiple terrier type dogs.
Even though the beloved Staffy was originally bred for the wrong reasons, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier was always trained to be loyal and loving towards humans.
They were taught to be hostile towards other dogs and animals, but the Staffy has always loved people. That's why they make great pets.
The Staffy is now a purebred dog, being recognised by kennel clubs all over the world, and they're one of the most sought after dog breeds in the UK.
Staffordshire Bull Terriers may have had a dark and rough past, but the modern Staffy is nothing but loving, caring and devoted to their human owners. 🐾

I have also read that the breed was originally bred as a tool for use in rodent control in the Staffordshire mines. They were quick, agile and low to the ground, perfect for catching and killing rats. This made them extremely gamey. So gamey they were hard to handle.
Through time and breeding with dogs that had a better disposition eventually the breed became extremely social with humans. At this point the breed could be handled well, small enough to hide in your coat as you snuck them into the fighting ring, due to pit fighting becoming unfavorable, and eventually illegal.
My staffy is a natural hunter, she's had at least a dozen rat kills. We live close by a restaurant and she can smell them hiding in the bushes, she loves to go for a walk in that direction. She patiently stalks the rats in the bush, when they make a move, she's got them, its over in a second, she's very fast and precise. Yes, she does have an up to date rabies shot.
She is an extremely good, intelligent dog. Everyone loves her, and she loves to be loved. She has a special relationship with our mail lady, she jumps up in the mail van and they visit for a while, she gets a treat, it's so cute. Anyway, love the videos!

Did not fight to death, the rules were the same as bare knuckle boxing of the day.
It was so popular that it influenced out language ti this day with phrases like not up to scratch.
    A fascinating history.

Pretty solid. Hard to explain in such a short amount of time. But from my knowledge the original bull terrier/bull and terrier wasn’t a hinks invention. Albeit he gets credit, my understanding was he got it recognized first and took the name bull terrier whilst the staffy was still in the pits working, getting imported to America thus creating the APBT. Also should be noted the staffy was crossed back into the EBT to bring back color

What people need to understand is that the very essence, Spirit and character of the Staffordshire Bull terrier are the product of their shady past.More people are bitten by dogs that are over aggressive or fearful.A Stafford is a confident, Fearless dog that adores human companionship and whoa betide anyone who tries to hurt the members of their human family. Stafford's where once the best kept secret in the Dog World but are know filling rescue shelters across the country. This is the result over breeding of Fad colours and Bad boys trying to enhance their street cred. Most So called Stafford attacks are usually a Stafford Type Cross, You don't need to alter the perfect dog.I would also say Protection work is pointless, A real Stafford do's not need any help in that department. One final word,If your planning on getting a Stafford contact breed clubs and find a Breeder who can give you all the info you need.Don't be surprised if you get a grilling as they will want the best homes for their dogs..Got to go now,My latest pup will be chewing something to shreds whilst I have left him to do this post!

What you need to understand is that people are concerned with dog attacks, when it comes to this breed, not human attacks. And those DO happen.

Good info but the staff was around long before James hinks bull terrier. James hinks bred many breeds but didn’t create the staff. Pit fighting was around long before the white bull terrier. Staff’s was called pit bulls before or just bull and terrier then imported to the USA where it be came a bigger dog from selective breeding to make the American pit bull then it was named amstaff for show rings.

The staffy is a more real bull and terrier than the Hinks’ bull terrier, which is just a fashion dog.

I have a Big boy he Is 44,5 cm tall more than 20 kg and he is 12 month old. Now this breed is ruined dogs are too small I saw females with 10kg and male with 12-14 kg full adults. This was bull breed but they are ruined dog with 10kg is more like french buldog than bully breed.

If you knew the history of the native pit dog to the uk you would know they've always been small.
Cockney charley had a dog called paddy that was 27lb so just over 12kg.
Quite the opposite that a lot are smaller. A lot are bigger than they used to be, and are no better for it.

@@paddydoyle4234 well said 14-18kg most fully grown male although a lot of pet dogs are obese. Bare in mind if your dog is 20kg at 12 months it’s probably not a Stafford

I made it to the 3:11 mark; I just can't bear to hear any more of this cruelty! I have an American Staffordshire Terrier, and he is the best dog I've ever had! It absolutely kills me to know how these dogs were abused, and also, the bulls that they were set upon to "tenderize," OH MY GOD!

The information in this video is highly inaccurate, some of it is accurate but the majority of it is wrong regarding the breed and the breeder and the composition of the breed.
