  • Embark on a captivating journey with "Donald Hoffman's Theory on Consciousness - The Greatest Mystery in The Universe." This thought-provoking video delves into the groundbreaking work of cognitive psychologist Donald Hoffman, challenging our conventional understanding of reality. Have you ever considered that our senses might be deceiving us? That what we perceive as reality could be an intricate illusion crafted by our brains?
Drawing parallels from historical misconceptions about the Earth's shape and position, we explore the notion that our sensory experiences might be fundamentally misleading. Hoffman's revolutionary ideas propose that consciousness, not physical matter, is the fundamental essence of the universe. Our video takes you through a fascinating exploration of how billions of neurons and trillions of synapses construct our visual reality, shaping everything we see.
Discover how Hoffman’s theory intersects with quantum mechanics, suggesting that consciousness itself might influence the nature of reality. Is reality a complex network of conscious agents, each shaping others' experiences? This video invites you to reconsider the relationship between consciousness, the brain, and the universe, opening up new perspectives on life’s greatest mystery.
Join us as we delve into these intriguing theories, sparking debates and discussions in the scientific community. While critics point out the speculative and challenging nature of empirically testing these ideas, there's no denying their potential to radically transform our understanding of consciousness and reality. Dive into this intellectual adventure and prepare to have your view of the world challenged!

I am 85 and I remember the instant when I became conscious and started to talk. My mother told me years later that I was nine months old. I have a clear memory of the effect of becoming conscious,. I am working on the memories of those instants and when ready, I will be glad to share my experience with the rest of the world.

I knew there had to be others. I remember how we learn to speak. Why some speak sooner than others. It's has to do with how the parents talk to the baby but more importantly how people talk to each other in front of the baby. If we don't see people move their lips then we don't know to move our lips

It's true the brain creates senses. During dreams you can experience literally all of your senses, they'll even sometimes be more intense than waking life

When you measure brain activity during sleep and awake., you will find out, that the brain activity is much higher during dreams than being awake. Some theories even talk about dreams beeing the only time when we are actually experiencing true reality.

Yep i agree. But it does not tell us whether what we perceive is reality, either way. The fact the you are the only one to experience your dreams and that most people can agree on what they see when awake would suggest that being awake is more real than a dream. But either way, hoffman's hypothesis only allows us to consider the possibility that reality is not what it is. But it could also very well be exactly what it is, what it is but with a filter/focus or something in between.
A dog will have a much richer smell based environment. We could also suggest that you perceive reality with a focus on what is most useful to your species. It's still the same thing but with a focus on different aspects or components.

sometimes we wonder if humans evolved stupid bodies so they would legit have to rely on themselves to survive

so we see why they would evolve +1 kinda like how the Mother of Monsters selects for Giants to optimize metabolism
      they’re properties of nature… trends… forces…
      it’s the how?

Donald Hoffman's exploration into the nature of reality and consciousness is groundbreaking. His approach, blending cognitive science with philosophical inquiry, offers a fresh perspective on how we perceive the world. It's fascinating to consider the possibility that our senses are more about survival than depicting an objective reality. The idea that our perceptions are a user interface rather than a true reflection of reality is fascinating. While Donald Hoffman's theory on the nature of reality and consciousness is undeniably intriguing, it raises several questions regarding its empirical testability and practical implications. The video opens up a dialogue on the implications of such a theory for understanding the mind, reality, and our place in the universe. A must-watch for anyone intrigued by the mysteries of consciousness and existence.

Donald Hoffman's theory on consciousness presents a compelling and revolutionary view that challenges traditional paradigms of reality and our understanding of the universe. At the core of his hypothesis is the idea that what we perceive as the physical world is merely a user interface constructed by our brains, designed to hide the underlying complexity of reality for the sake of evolutionary fitness. Hoffman argues that space and time, along with the objects we see around us, do not reflect the true nature of reality; instead, they are akin to the icons on a computer desktop, providing a simplified way to interact with complex computational processes.
This theory, if validated, not only upends our basic assumptions about the world but also has profound implications for the study of consciousness, the nature of reality, and the origins of the universe. It suggests that understanding consciousness is not just a key to unlocking the mind but could also provide insights into the very fabric of reality itself. Hoffman's work invites us to question the very foundations of our experiences and encourages a deeper exploration into the mysteries of consciousness, potentially leading to a paradigm shift in science and philosophy. This approach to consciousness as the greatest mystery in the universe is not just intellectually fascinating; it could fundamentally alter our relationship with the world and our perception of our place within it.

It's challenging to discern whether his theory is exceptionally simple or monumentally complex. Is it just philosophy, or can it be tested as truth? It could depend on one's way of thinking, their knowledge, or their beliefs about what is and isn't fundamental. As a layperson, I do want to understand his concepts and can almost grasp them, especially when you consider, for instance, how a psychedelic 'trip' can alter waking consciousness to a point where you reinterpret what you see with your eyes and perceive with your mind about reality. Or when you consider that other lifeforms do not perceive reality as we do; like for a cat, the Moon above is just another light and absolutely nothing more.
I'm curious though about the end point for Hoffman's theory. If it's accepted, how does it affect anything other than as a philosophical viewpoint? How would it impact science? It's indeed very interesting.

    • @OnceTheyNamedMeiWasnt
      @OnceTheyNamedMeiWasnt 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

It would impact everything by confirming that reality doesn't exist and there is only one mind that we all experience ("we" not being a real concept anyway).

"a psychedelic 'trip' can alter waking consciousness to a point where you reinterpret what you see with your eyes and perceive with your mind about reality"
Psychedelics do not alter the fact of being conscious
(although psychedelics can end the being conscious process for a while).
Psychedelics alter the character of what the self is conscious.
Psychedelics can also alter the seeming character of the self.
(It's practically impossible to know the cause of things looking odd,
perhaps an altered self is misinterpreting a normal thought or
a normal self is being conscious of an altered thought or
      a combination of these two).
      Psychedelics cause hallucinations.
(In one's campsite one can clearly see a calm 30 foot tall Sphinx in perfect detail,
snooty lions lounging round its outstretched paws
      illuminated by glowing jewel trees,
even as one knows absolutely that all of this is hallucination and
one can even walk up and pass one's hand right through
causing not the slightest ripple in it.
(I am extremely impressed by the creative power of a brain).
      Thoughts are representations and
only these are of what one is conscious.
What's fundamental and what's real cannot be known because
whatever really fundamentally exists must be translated into thoughts
before we may be conscious of it and
who knows to what extent translation distorts it.
And then of course there is The Matrix to make one think about
how distant from our conception the fundament may be.
      Cheers, eh!

The fundamental problem with human beings is that we assume ourselves and our scientific reality as ultimate .
Human body including brain is just a part of nature.
In short we are nature itself. Then We (nature) look outwards and marvel the beauty and complexity of nature. It's like nature observing nature and all the information we collect go back to nature like a never ending loop.
The more we explore, nature will open new doors infinitely and indefinitely. That's why we can't find the edge of the universe. The more we look, the more it shows.
I think our sense organs are not collecting information from the outside world.
I belive there's a story running in the brain.
The same story is in everybody's brain.
But the brain of each individual creates it's own screenplay and projects it outwards like a projector in a movie theatre.
It's like if a same story is given to different directors, they will come up with entirely different movies but the underlying thread of all those movies will be the same.

Also everything seems designed perfectly indicating intelligence, i.e. a creator. I also believe we could never get past the edge of the universe because ,it itself is a concept / idea manifesting as this realm outside of which is just God's mind or some intelligent field. There's also a theory that matter itself may all contain some consciousness to a degree, or that the universe itself is so complex that it could be aware. Super vid.

A segment from 'Saved by the Light of the Buddha Within'...
My new understandings of what many call 'God -The Holy Spirit' - resulting from some of the extraordinary ongoing after-effects relating to my NDE...
Myoho-Renge-Kyo represents the identity of what some scientists are now referring to as the unified field of consciousnesses. In other words, it’s the essence of all existence and non-existence - the ultimate creative force behind planets, stars, nebulae, people, animals, trees, fish, birds, and all phenomena, manifest or latent. All matter and intelligence are simply waves or ripples manifesting to and from this core source. Consciousness (enlightenment) is itself the actual creator of everything that exists now, ever existed in the past, or will exist in the future - right down to the minutest particles of dust - each being an individual ripple or wave.
The big difference between chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo and most other conventional prayers is that instead of depending on a ‘middleman’ to connect us to our state of inner enlightenment, we’re able to do it ourselves. That’s because chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo allows us to tap directly into our enlightened state by way of this self-produced sound vibration. ‘Who or What Is God?’ If we compare the concept of God being a separate entity that is forever watching down on us, to the teachings of Nichiren, it makes more sense to me that the true omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence of what most people perceive to be God, is the fantastic state of enlightenment that exists within each of us. Some say that God is an entity that’s beyond physical matter - I think that the vast amount of information continuously being conveyed via electromagnetic waves in today’s world gives us proof of how an invisible state of God could indeed exist.
For example, it’s now widely known that specific data relayed by way of electromagnetic waves has the potential to help bring about extraordinary and powerful effects - including an instant global awareness of something or a mass emotional reaction. It’s also common knowledge that these invisible waves can easily be used to detonate a bomb or to enable NASA to control the movements of a robot as far away as the Moon or Mars - none of which is possible without a receiver to decode the information that’s being transmitted. Without the receiver, the data would remain impotent. In a very similar way, we need to have our own ‘receiver’ switched on so that we can activate a clear and precise understanding of our own life, all other life and what everything else in existence is.
Chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo each day helps us to achieve this because it allows us to reach the core of our enlightenment and keep it switched on. That’s because Myoho-Renge-Kyo represents the identity of what scientists now refer to as the unified field of consciousnesses. To break it down - Myoho represents the Law of manifestation and latency (Nature) and consists of two alternating states. For example, the state of Myo is where everything in life that’s not obvious to us exists - including our stored memories when we’re not thinking about them - our hidden potential and inner emotions whenever they’re dormant - our desires, our fears, our wisdom, happiness, karma - and more importantly, our enlightenment.
The other state, ho, is where everything in Life exists whenever it becomes evident to us, such as when a thought pops up from within our memory - whenever we experience or express our emotions - or whenever a good or bad cause manifests as an effect from our karma. When anything becomes apparent, it merely means that it’s come out of the state of Myo (dormancy/latency) and into a state of ho (manifestation). It’s the difference between consciousness and unconsciousness, being awake or asleep, or knowing and not knowing.
The second law - Renge - Ren meaning cause and ge meaning effect, governs and controls the functions of Myoho - these two laws of Myoho and Renge, not only function together simultaneously but also underlies all spiritual and physical existence.
The final and third part of the tri-combination - Kyo, is the Law that allows Myoho to integrate with Renge - or vice versa. It’s the great, invisible thread of energy that fuses and connects all Life and matter - as well as the past, present and future. It’s also sometimes termed the Universal Law of Communication - perhaps it could even be compared with the string theory that many scientists now suspect exists.
Just as the cells in our body, our thoughts, feelings and everything else is continually fluctuating within us - all that exists in the world around us and beyond is also in a constant state of flux - constantly controlled by these three fundamental laws. In fact, more things are going back and forth between the two states of Myo and ho in a single moment than it would ever be possible to calculate or describe. And it doesn’t matter how big or small, famous or trivial anything or anyone may appear to be, everything that’s ever existed in the past, exists now or will exist in the future, exists only because of the workings of the Laws ‘Myoho-Renge-Kyo’ - the basis of the four fundamental forces, and if they didn’t function, neither we nor anything else could go on existing. That’s because all forms of existence, including the seasons, day, night, birth, death and so on, are moving forward in an ongoing flow of continuation - rhythmically reverting back and forth between the two fundamental states of Myo and ho in absolute accordance with Renge - and by way of Kyo. Even stars are dying and being reborn under the workings of what the combination ‘Myoho-Renge-Kyo’ represents. Nam, or Namu - which mean the same thing, are vibrational passwords or keys that allow us to reach deep into our life and fuse with or become one with ‘Myoho-Renge-Kyo’.
On a more personal level, nothing ever happens by chance or coincidence, it’s the causes that we’ve made in our past, or are presently making, that determine how these laws function uniquely in each of our lives - as well as the environment from moment to moment. By facing east, in harmony with the direction that the Earth is spinning, and chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo for a minimum of, let’s say, ten minutes daily to start with, any of us can experience actual proof of its positive effects in our lives - even if it only makes us feel good on the inside, there will be a definite positive effect. That’s because we’re able to pierce through the thickest layers of our karma and activate our inherent Buddha Nature (our enlightened state). By so doing, we’re then able to bring forth the wisdom and good fortune that we need to challenge, overcome and change our adverse circumstances - turn them into positive ones - or manifest and gain even greater fulfilment in our daily lives from our accumulated good karma. This also allows us to bring forth the wisdom that can free us from the ignorance and stupidity that’s preventing us from accepting and being proud of the person that we indeed are - regardless of our race, colour, gender or sexuality. We’re also able to see and understand our circumstances and the environment far more clearly, as well as attract and connect with any needed external beneficial forces and situations. As I’ve already mentioned, everything is subject to the law of Cause and Effect - the ‘actual-proof-strength’ resulting from chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo always depends on our determination, sincerity and dedication.
For example, the levels of difference could be compared to making a sound on a piano, creating a melody, producing a great song, and so on. Something else that’s very important to always respect and acknowledge is that the Law (or if you prefer God) is in everyone and everything.
NB: There are frightening and disturbing sounds, and there are tranquil and relaxing sounds. It’s the emotional result of any noise or sound that can trigger off a mood or even instantly change one. When chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo each day, we are producing a sound vibration that’s the password to our true inner-self - this soon becomes apparent when you start reassessing your views on various things - such as your fears and desires etc. The best way to get the desired result when chanting is not to view things conventionally - rather than reaching out to an external source, we need to reach into our own lives and bring our needs and desires to fruition from within - including the good fortune and strength to achieve any help that we may need. Chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo also reaches out externally and draws us towards, or draws towards us, what we need to make us happy from our environment. For example, it helps us to be in the right place at the right time - to make better choices and decisions and so forth. We need to think of it as a seed within us that we’re watering and bringing sunshine to for it to grow, blossom and bring forth fruit or flowers. It’s also important to understand that everything we need in life, including the answer to every question and the potential to achieve every dream, already exists within us.

This idea that our consciousness creates the nature of the universe is an old religious concept but it defies the theories of chaos and emergence. He is correct that there are usually lower layers of order and chaos but that does not mean you can chose to rearrange the layers however you like. There is a hierarchy to these layers of order/complexity that cannot be ignored or changed. Just calling a layer doomed because another lower level is expected to one day be discovered does not mean you can then define everything based on some higher level layer of emergent world simplification done by the brain that we call consciousness.

I agree with the analogy of our brain and our experience being like a user interface, "programmed" by evolution to be optimized for survival and not "truth as it really is". But I don't think it's justified to make the leap from that, to the conclusion that our consciousness _affects_ "external" reality in any way: Whatever consciousness is, there's no reason to think its causal influence extends beyond the confines of our brains; whatever the explanation of quantum phenomena proves to be, I don't think it's going to involve our awareness having a tangible, objective impact on the reality we perceive.

To expanding on "seeing something" from the vid, the light hit your eyes, neurons collaborates to produce the image ... and your mind (aka consciousness) registers it. In other words, physical component ends, mental part begins. Once registered, it doesn't stop. Another mind get created based on what that image is. If attractive, desire to want to associate with it is formed. If it is wife in adultery, anger is formed. So on and on! Basically, physical part and mental (consciousness) part playing cause and effect roles. Tremendous things happen when your mind becomes really focused and clear

Very interesting, but there is a ‘fundamental’ misunderstanding about what was meant with the four elements. They were (among other things) used as representations of four fundamental ‘qualities’, where water stands for everything liquid, fire stands for warmth (for lack of a better word), earth stands for solid matter, and air stands for all types of gasses. They are in a way fundamental for the world and the universe we live in.
For modern science, fundamental is interpreted as the smallest component, so we keep opening up and spliting things into smaller things so we can look inside, which is good and necessary. But what it does, is show you another surface of something, while it is much less about the ‘fundamentality’ of the quality of it. In the past, a holistic view showed these four qualities as more fundamental than the smaller pieces they were made of, and that view can still offer valuable insights if we truly understand it. Especially if you are searching for consciousness.

We are a function, our life is a function, our consciousness is a function, of that whole living being. Like fungi. There are smaller components that make up the fungal colony that are constantly being asexually reproduced and which arrive for a duration and then "die", like human cells, but the living creature is better seen as the whole colony, the whole body, and that has been alive and growing the whole time as a single living organism of which all living things are a function.@@chrisplayz253

Then how can we relate to animals which do see infrared? We can with technology, or with other senses. Free Will is absolutely fundamental in our consciousness and in the universe. We use it in every choice we make. Quantum probabilities in your brain make determinism impossible. Free will decisions that you make, are made in an infinite number of ways, but they all come down to just two things, logic and emotion, with an infinite number of ways that they are weighted and combined to reach a decision.
Think of emotion as being more of an animalistic drive for what you want, and logic as being what you determine to be the best choice for you, either morally or physically. There are an infinite number of combinations that will lead you to a decision. The idea that you could predict that or that it could be predetermined is ridiculous!
Some will be beneficial for you and some will not. If you tend to give in to emotion, it makes you much more likely to develop addictions to what gives you pleasure or makes you feel good. On the other hand, always following logic makes you more methodical and less animalistic.
Both are needed in infinitely varying degrees to make you wholly human, but the more you understand them, the easier it is to recognize attempts at manipulation, and avoid having your consent modified and manufactured by it, in different forms of advertising and persuasion thrust upon you by others and by media, either social or mainstream.
Here is your free will - You can choose to think about something other than what you are currently thinking about at any time. You can change the subject to anything you want, not just follow some mind/body machine program. You can actively suppress thoughts and memories at will and choose to follow a different mental path whenever you want, to as far to any end as you want and make it your new free will reality.

Consciousness is the most complex thing that exists in the universe. The perception of light is only a neural simulation. Light and colors don’t actually exist outside our brain. Vision is in fact, just a figment of our imagination. In other words, light is a hallucination. Let me demonstrate just one of the many incredible things our brains do. What we see outside ourselves is a neural hallucination; just like a dream is a neural hallucination. Light and colors don’t actually exist outside of our minds. Light is electromagnetic energy, just like radio waves; they’re invisible waves of electromagnetic energy coming at us from every angle. What we perceive as seeing is a neural hallucination generated by our brain.
The rods and cones (retina) at the back of our eyes are photoreceptor cells, that is, groups of molecules that absorb only specific wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation. When these photoreceptive cells absorb specific wavelengths, they then turn that energy into electrochemical impulses that travel through our optic nerves to the brain. The brain then constructs a map of the outside world into hallucinatory images of the world at large. There is no light or colors traveling through the optic nerves, only electrochemical impulses. If you were to cut an optic nerve in half, there would be no light in it; it’s not like an optical cable transmitting light and colors. More than half of the neurons composing our brain are dedicated to processing these electrochemical impulses into the sensations of vision we call seeing.
Most people think that light and colors travel through the optic nerves and form a projection in our brain, but that is not what is happening.
I wrote a short article on this topic in 2004, but it was not published because the auditors of the scientific community couldn’t conceive the notion that light, and colors don’t actually exist. It’s a 1,200-word synopsis describing the nature of light and colors. You can download a copy of my article from MediaFire file sharing service: www.mediafire.com/file_premium/9nb7mqhnznet5xz/The_Nature_of_Light_and_Colors.docx/file

No matter how sophisticated it may be, an idea is never the thing in itself. A highly complex idea about a bird neither sings nor flies. Therefore, knowledge is and will always be incomplete. It is impossible to measure what consciousness is. It is immeasurable and therefore infinite and timeless. There are no two infinities. Consciousness is one, and the instruments of consciousness reflect it to varying degrees. When all ideas become still, through the understanding that they are limited, there is pure consciousness, which is our true nature. Only consciousness is true happiness, because it is complete.

    • @robertmack4351
      @robertmack4351 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

I think you may have answered your questions with ' reflections'. Infinite measures are both infinite and finite simultaneously. Since all things vibrate then these vibrations are present within the 'infinite line'. There shall be a center point in this 'line' that complies to equilibrium. Equilibrium causes vibrational counterparts. Total information within this 'line' must, conversely, align take sides. This is as equilibrium dictates. All things must vibrate. So we have the infinite and the finite in a tug and compression of war. There is no one vibrational middle ground here because this 'line' is linear and cyclic at the same time. It exists this way because of our 180 degree hemispherical scope of observation. This I refer to as Linear Causality. Upon observing any infinite line our visual scope inscribes a circle around that 'line' ... The severs both ends. Remaining is now the circles diameter ... which has yielded the infinite data into the 764th through 768th sequence in Pi. There is now a 999/666 linear/cyclic war zone trapped in a closed system.

"I" as consciousness, registers sense perception which makes up reality. I am just so foolish I sometimes get caught up in what I see, hear, smell, feel, taste, and sense, that I take it to be the real thing when the truth is "I", the one registering it all now. I am registering the sense perception of this particular body writing these words now. I am always now. I am in your body reading these words, aren't I? I am the intelligence of life. I am not particular. I am in all, and all are in me. I live in the body and the psyche but have my life outside of it. The absence of sense perception is what you call death, but the absence of sense perception is what I truly am--unborn and undying. This is demonstrated by consciousness always registering sense perception, but never being what it registers. Like eyes are not vision, nor nose an odour, so is consciousness not sense perception. Consciousness is the intelligence of life, of I reading these words. Sense perception is real and unreal simultaneously. Real that it exists for now, unreal that it will soon end. Do you understand? There is no truth in sense perception. The truth is I.

This issue mostly derives from the materialist assumption that the physical universe is all there is in existence. But materialism is such a short-sighted model because it assumes that all of reality is conveniently reducible to human senses and perceptions. And while we have certainly expanded our range of perceivability, through technology, our senses are limited. They will never be able to 'funnel' 100% of reality into our understanding. In fact, I suspect MOST of reality will forever remain beyond our ability to perceive, measure, and objectify - and therefore understand.

I am a physicist and I will explain why our scientific knowledge refutes the idea that consciousness is generated by the brain and that the origin of our mental experiences is physical/biological .
My argument proves that the fragmentary structure of brain processes implies that brain processes are not a sufficient condition for the existence of consciousness, which existence implies the existence in us of an indivisible unphysical element, which is usually called soul or spirit (in my youtube channel you can find a video with more detailed explanations). I also argue that all emergent properties are subjective cognitive contructs used to approximately describe underlying physical processes, and that these descriptions refer only to mind-dependent entities. Consciousness, being implied by these cognitive contructs, cannot itself be an emergent property.
Preliminary considerations: the concept of set refers to something that has an intrinsically conceptual and subjective nature and implies the arbitrary choice of determining which elements are to be included in the set; what exists objectively are only the single elements. In fact, when we define a set, it is like drawing an imaginary line that separates some elements from all the other elements; obviously this imaginary line does not exist physically, independently of our mind, and therefore any set is just an abstract idea, a cognitive construct and not a physical entity and so are all its properties. Similar considerations can be made for a sequence of elementary processes; sequence is a subjective and abstract concept.

Mental experience is a precondition for the existence of subjectivity/arbitrariness and cognitive constructs, therefore mental experience cannot itself be a cognitive construct; obviously we can conceive the concept of consciousness, but the concept of consciousness is not actual consciousness.
(With the word consciousness I do not refer to self-awareness, but to the property of being conscious= having a mental experiences such as sensations, emotions, thoughts, memories and even dreams).
From the above considerations it follows that only indivisible elements may exist objectively and independently of consciousness, and consequently the only logically coherent and significant statement is that consciousness exists as a property of an indivisible element. Furthermore, this indivisible entity must interact globally with brain processes because we know that there is a correlation between brain processes and consciousness. This indivisible entity is not physical, since according to the laws of physics, there is no physical entity with such properties; therefore this indivisible entity can be identified with what is traditionally called soul or spirit. The soul is the missing element that interprets globally the distinct elementary physical processes occurring at separate points in the brain as a unified mental experience.
    Some clarifications.
The laws of physics describe in principle all the physical processes of which brain processes consist, without defining the system "brain". The brain does not physically exist as a single entity but is only a subjective cognitive construct that refers to a set of arbitrarily chosen quantum particles; actually there is a continuous exchange of molecules with the blood and when and how such molecules start and stop being part of the brain is decided arbitrarily.
Brain processes consist of many parallel sequences of ordinary elementary physical processes occurring at separate points. There is no direct connection between the separate points in the brain and such connections are just a subjective abstractions used to approximately describe sequences of many distinct physical processes. Indeed, considering consciousness as a property of an entire sequence of elementary processes implies the arbitrary definition of the entire sequence; the entire sequence as a whole (and therefore every function/property/capacity attributed to the brain) is a subjective abstraction that does not refer to any mind-independendent reality.
Physicalism/naturalism is based on the belief that consciousness is an emergent property of the brain. However, an emergent property is defined as a property that is possessed by a set of elements that its individual components do not possess; my arguments prove that this definition implies that emergent properties are only subjective cognitive constructs and therefore, consciousness cannot be an emergent property.
Actually, all the alleged emergent properties are just simplified and approximate descriptions or subjective/arbitrary classifications of underlying physical processes or properties, which are described directly by the fundamental laws of physics alone, without involving any emergent properties (arbitrariness/subjectivity is involved when more than one option is possible; in this case, more than one possible description). An approximate description is only an abstract idea, and no actual entity exists per se corresponding to that approximate description, simply because an actual entity is exactly what it is and not an approximation of itself. What physically exists are the underlying physical processes. Emergence is nothing more than a cognitive construct that is applied to physical phenomena, and cognition itself can only come from a mind; thus emergence can never explain mental experience as, by itself, it implies mental experience.

I heard an AI developer discuss the feature of software and apps: he stated in stead of having fixed apps that have a static function - we’ll be able to ask our device “create an app that helps me do such and such” and it will write the code for this app that you will temporarily need and then get rid of it again. As such AI learns to create temporarily specific interfaces out a catalog of a myriad of previous builds.
Rupert Sheldrake’s hypothesis of Morphogenetic Field suggests all of reality behaves as such. From the forming of stars to rats finding their way thru a maze, what happened before will be easier to happen again non-locally.
Now I would like to stretch it even further: the whole before or experience thing doesn’t need to exist at all - the present moment is all that need to exist without a precursor. It temporarily creates a version that appears to have evolved and learned - and this version of the present moment is an instantaneous creation out of some eternal information field that doesn’t need to exist at all, also eternity is a temporal template that suggest its own existence and reality.
The present moment simply being reality resisting infinity.

    • @starfishsystems

      Consciousness is evidently EMERGENT.
There is no evidence that it's FUNDAMENTAL.
On the contrary, what we should properly call "consciousness" is a very unusual side development along the gradient of cognitive ability generally.
Much confusion results from supposing that consciousness is also distributed along that same gradient, so that spiders and salamanders and mice and dogs and humans are all "conscious" in varying degrees.
We are all certainly operating at varying degrees of COGNITION: signal processing, statefulness, memory, planning, and so on. Even amoebae respond to their environment, despite having no neural structure at all.
But this is not consciousness as we humans experience consciousness, and it's sloppy reasoning to assume that it is.
