    The infamous Hurricane Bawbag (Cyclone Friedhelm) hit us in December 2011. Winds peaked at a massive 120 knots (138 mph)

      What type of vessel u on? Mostly every ship I worked on was 300' and under. Once we got caught in a hurricane in-between west Africa and Eastern Caribbean. At the time winds were 95mph with 20' and bigger waves. At the time I was on the USNS Pathfinder or Hayes I think. Hard to remember back to 2006. I had just finished serving 17 years in the army and thought I would try out the merchant navy. I really enjoyed it. Had I known about merchant marines when I was younger I may have went that direction instead of the army.

    1:59 BLOODY HELL. This is the best big swell footage I’ve seen on TH-cam. The only thing missing is the noise. You go up up up up, until all you can see is sky. You crest the wave, then begin to plummet bow first-and there’s a bone rattling, wet THUNK as the bow smacks into the trough. From there, it looks certain the next wave will break over the vessel- but instead you’re thrust into the sky on the next swell. All the while the boat creaks and shudders and moans, the wind howls, and the wave sounds are relentless. It’s almost impossible to capture the experience on film. This clip comes closer than any other I’ve seen.

      Decent sized vessel and an experienced crew, wasn’t in any real danger. The worst part is the corkscrewing. Up and down and side to side seemingly all at the same time. Tea and toast for dinner. And probably breakfast the next day. Despite the comments, your personal south end evacuation isn’t an issue, it’s all coming north. Headache, nausea, disorientation. Good story when you’re back home though.

They can appreciate it too considering their point of view out of those windows was all ocean one second. All sky the next. They still made it home to stare at the painting of it hanging on the wall in their living room.

My feet were in the air more than on the deck. Who pressed the elevator button for up and down at the same time. What a week! Then we went over to Macinac for dinner at the Pony, and next thing we knew, the yellow round house was on fire, and a big one.! Never a even steven moment here…. lol. Even with all this movement, I would feel safer in this ship than in one of those super large ships, because of the risk of them breaking in 2 due to the tremendous stress. Hats off the engineers that have designed this ship. She takes these waves with ease and her sailing through such monstrous seas is a true beauty. This is strangely relaxing to watch, and really beautiful. This looks much more fun and entertaining than any amusement park.

    • @Bigwavemaster1
      @Bigwavemaster1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Larger ships would take the waves at an angle to reduce the the stressing and flexing. There are videos where you can see the whole ship twisting.
      There are a few more storm videos on my channel that are much longer than this one and great for relaxing.

    • @POLARTTYRTM
      @POLARTTYRTM 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Bigwavemaster1 Yes I have watched these videos of ships twisting, and they are quite scary. If I was onboard and seeing that I would be terrified, because I would think the ship would break apart even though I know modern big ships are designed to twist like that. I have watched your storm videos several times, and I'm always following the other videos as well, long time subscriber here. You have the best storm videos I've ever watched in my life. These screacking and cracking sounds from inside the ship are relaxing as no other thing out there.

      @@POLARTTYRTM Thanks for your continued viewing. Very much appreciated.
      Yes, modern ships are designed to bend & not break but that also depends on a good maintenance program of drydocks and surveys Once a ship has reached the end of their life expectancy and are no longer economically viable, they are sold off to countries that are not quite so fastidious about safety. There are many more ships lost that you will ever hear about.
