This video is amazing! I've been using Logic for 10 years, and learning to use its score feature-rather than learning completely new software like Sibelius-is incredibly helpful. Thank you! Good luck with everything! 🙌
You, sir, have saved me so much time and money. I really want to thank you for this invaluable information. I have been writing sheet music for nearly 30 years and have been using Logic Pro X since it came out and I had NO idea that it was this powerful of a tool. Thank you so much for this video.
I'm a classically trained cellist and composer for about the last 20 or so years... and I had never heard of the term "quaver" used to mean an eighth note. I can't believe i'm learning new things after playing classical cello music for over 20 years. Gnarly! lol
i have been learning music theory for 10 minutes i got a book 2 books 1 the pink AB guide to music theory part 1 and the blue book part 2 i am using logic pro x to understand what the book means and found the above video helpful its all so complicated i build designed a big rig in lockdown and thought its time to learn i have had these books since 2004
Another important topic is dividing left and right hands. Logic can’t do that automatically. You need to set Track’s Staff Style to Piano 1/3 and assign MIDI channels 1 for right and 3 for left hands. Pedals should sit in the 3d MIDI channel too. Workaround: Preferences > Score > Split and set a point to divide.
Exceptional. I've been using this to learn how to write score sheets for an existing composition and learned a load that I wouldn't have found otherwise. Thanks a lot.
I know Im randomly asking but does someone know of a tool to log back into an instagram account? I was stupid forgot the account password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me!
...,oh my...,isn't this something! I've been waiting for a DAW that had this capability..,and it's great that someone with the command of both English and common practice music took the time to explain the basics....,thanks
Does anybody know how to divide the notes between Right hand and left hand which would be helpful if with say a note G in the bass clef should be played with the other notes in the right hand in the treble clef Not for it to be represented in the treble clef but staying in the bass clef with the stems joining up with the notes played by the right Hand Even years ago Steinberg’s Cubase had a brilliant solution to this where you could use the mouse to draw a line between notes to be played by the right hand and left hand Not a straight line division but a line which followed the movements you made by the mouse Thanks if anyone can help with this For example suppose you were playing a second inversion of the chord C and you were playing the notes low C and E in the treble clef and G in the bass clef a 4th below the note C and you wanted these notated as all to be played by the right hand I hop that all makes sense - quite a hard question to ask 😄
Thank you for your help, I feel I'm getting somewhere. Ties: i was able to put the tie into the notation, (guitar treble clef -first line, the tab-second line) I couldn't tie the tab. The problem is that the audio track, it plays the trailing note in the tie, like it's not tied.
18:44 Got me super excited, because I was just thinking about how awesome it would be if they would add tablature to Logic. Strangely, I cannot select “guitar” in the drop down list. I’ll keep trying, probably something I’m missing. Thank you for this video!
Thank you, this is so helpful! Quick question - By any chance do you know if/how I can remove the 'Led*' pedal information from the score, without removing the pedal information in the MIDI? Cheers.
Thank you for many great videos. Did you do any tutorials on the score editor? I'm looking for appoggiatura no slash threw notes. I came across grace notes but no appoggiatura, I have ask about this on many platforms with no joy, is it possible that logic don't have these notes?
Thank you for this. Can you also write on multiple staves as opposed to just one? Say if you were doing an orchestral arrangement of Vl1, VL2, Viola and Cello. How can you write on 4 staves without switching in and out of screens?
Yes. You have to select the score to be a multi option and then you will see all your Instruments layered onto each other like a traditional score. You can jump between them in this mode and if midi Out is selected, you will hear the correct instrument playing the notes. Just be careful dragging up and down because it won’t drag to a different line it will only increase or decrease the pitch.
Thanks for the great tips! I have a specific issue: We recorded a brass section - two trumpets, alto and trombone - with a midi keyboard. I made a midi track and cloned it 4 times to make the tracks, and then the piano player performed each voice on a separate track. Now I'm trying to transpose the score, so I can send it to the individual players, but when I change let's say the trumpet 1 to "trumpet in Bb", it changes it to all voices. I will try to import each voice in a separate project and workaround this way, but I'm sure there's an option for this in Logic Pro, I just don't know it. Thanks in advance!
Hello- Excellent video. I compose first by playing the score from my keyboard and then I would like to notate. So far, I have tried GB, and the correction process is awkward. I can upgrade, but I want to avoid tedious correction. Input on this? thanks for video. I would very much appreciate your reply.
Is it possible to have a song playing back, write it down on the midi score/tab, having it playing and me playing a bass line for example, recording it and seeing the score/tab playing back?
When you start composing a piece in score, how do you set the time and key signature in your very first bar? Can you synchronise your score and MIDI track quantising?
Helpful video. Is there a way to change the automated triplet notation in Logic? I want to remove the bracket on top of the notes and put just a 3 below the notes. Is this possible?
My track seemed for some reason to only be saved as score, can I transcribe it back into the "normal" MIDI-region, or is that part of my file permanently deleted?
Very Good brother! nice and simple scoring. I'm still trying to add a HAMMOND Organ GLISSANDO , I see the squiggle line but I need to turn it 45 degrees so it is slanting down top to bottom, any suggestions?
I have a problem: when looking at the layout of full partiture (like an orchestra director would), there are way too many pages for a 4 min piece! Each page in fact only shows 3 bars; how can I have more bars per page? I went to "Global" for scores but I can only see "maximum bars" and that won't increase the number of bars per page.
I'd like to know how do I write multi staffs and in four part works as a four part screen image without getting the cleft being inserted when entering notes, No problem single staff, just when using more that one staff line on screen. thanks.
Do you know how to group quavers in groups of 4 instead of 3 (triplets) Some music in 6/8 has quavers with a little 4 over the top instead of the three quavers with the little 3 over the top of them.
I would love to speak to you individually about something I'm trying to do in Logic Score editor: We have a very large Logic Session file that contains our full show of music (over 5 hours of cover/wedding band material) - I'd like to chart out my horn parts and chords on one score sheet and then cast the score editor to the other musicians using a second screen. Is there a way I can talk to you in more detail about this?
you seem to have a lot more in the partbox than me - i don't, for example, have the rests section - I only have 8 sections. is there an extra download or something?
Does anyone know how to add measure repeats to redundant measures instead of having similar patterns be written out for long passages? Similar to the way you can add a series of rest measures into one?
HI, Good video, I have a question. I´m composing on 5/8, and I want to write in a bar, one eight + one eight dotted+one sixteenth+ one crotchet to complete the bar. I can do perfectly in piano roll, but in the score does not writing as above, Being irregular tempo, and looking the possibilities to quantize, there is not nothing that match the 5/8, cause I think that should be an option multiple by 5. Please can anyone help me?? Regards
Lots of useful info! Watched 22 min of this video trying to find how to quantise only selected notes in the score editor and i didn´t, it quantises the whole music :( Any help?
Is it possible to add chord symbols to several parts all at once? Im making a score and I want to add chord symbols to two guitars, the bass and the piano. What do I do so I dont have to write the same chords four times?
Its to me THE BEST when you record realtime music. It just notates rather well compared to sibelius, finale or Dorico. It has all the necessary and advanced symbols for composing a modern symphony, lead sheets, etc. But a PITA when the user needs to edit in general. Things like moving a slur... Man, one just want to punch it in da face. I think apple MUST develop this area as soon as possible. It has a huge potential compared to finale or Sibelius, both of them stupidly stuck in the past.
Hi I would love to know why do I have Problem with the Base line. I can just write Scores in the Violin key not down... Coud you please help me to solve this problem?
I can't seem to figure out how to turn off quantization of the input. I can turn it off in the region menu but in the notation editor it doesn't give me an option to simply notate exactly what I perform. It always quantizes it to the nearest 16th or triplet. It's very frustrating.
Aftr play and record, press CMD+5, once in the score press CMD+P, on the print window Accept and the next window will show you down left the possibility to print on PDF.
Does anybody know how to assigned the buttons that one sees when accessing the " show step input keyboard"on to a midi keyboard. I have been using Musescore but am looking to learn how to use the score portion of Logic.
Hi , First of all thanks for the video. I am new to logic. I am familiar with Sibelius. With Logic and the score editor, I am not able to input notes. I am not able to see the tools bar with all the notes etc.....Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
Hello!!! Thanks for video!! BUT!!!!! Why when use pencil tool in score editor EVERY SINGLE NOTE don't full length? I mean for example if draw 1 quarter note it will be 0 0 3 232 length!!!!! But if we do the same in piano roll it will be 0 1 0 0???? Why????
Can someone help me literallly just wanna know how to view sheet music from midi a 30 second video. Can someone also tell me where I can find short simple videos

i was studying sound endgenering back in 2001/2004 and these books were recommended i think they are very good books
that's just the US and Europe difference I think. I learnt Quaver being in UK and didn't know eighth note till much later on

Really thorough. Excellent tutorial. This is exactly what I needed today. Thanks so much!
...,oh my...,isn't this something! I've been waiting for a DAW that had this capability..,and it's great that someone with the command of both English and common practice music took the time to explain the basics....,thanks
probably the best logic pro x video I've ever seen
Awesome video.
Very helpful and professionally presented.
Many thanks sir!
Glad we could help!
6mins into this video, and already learned a lot. Thanks so much for doing this tutorial.
This is the most helpful video I have ever watched. Great video man

Cheers, man, I also bought a paid tutorial on the same topic, but your two tutorials make the picture complete for me, cheers
Great job explaining all the ins and outs Thanks!
Thanks for this. I can no longer use Sibelius 6 since upgrading my Mac. Looks like Logic will now be my go to.
Great tutorial. You convinced me to switch to Logic Pro X. Can that programme convert Finale (Coda) .mus files? I have tons of them.
This is an excellent video, great work man.
Thank you for this video: it answered all my questions !!!
18:44 Got me super excited, because I was just thinking about how awesome it would be if they would add tablature to Logic. Strangely, I cannot select “guitar” in the drop down list. I’ll keep trying, probably something I’m missing. Thank you for this video!
Ok, so I didn’t have the “Score” checked under Preferences->Advanced! Now we’re talking! :)
Well done Rob. Nice concise introduction. Any more on Logic Score?
Thank you so much! They Syncopation [checkbox] was my issue, thank you for this video!
You are awesome! Thanks for making this and providing a lot of valuable information. Keep doing the great work
Thank you, this is so helpful! Quick question - By any chance do you know if/how I can remove the 'Led*' pedal information from the score, without removing the pedal information in the MIDI? Cheers.
Thank you! This was extremely helpful.
Excellent video. Thank you!
That was really helpful. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
Thank you for many great videos. Did you do any tutorials on the score editor? I'm looking for appoggiatura no slash threw notes. I came across grace notes but no appoggiatura, I have ask about this on many platforms with no joy, is it possible that logic don't have these notes?
Excellent tutorial. You're the man!
Thank you for this wonderful video!!: it has helped me a lot! 🎉
Thank you so much this has bugged me for ages!

Thank you for this tutorial.
THE AB GUIDE TO MSUIC THEORY PART 1 AND PART 2 i was told are extreme;y good books i am following these as well as as many videos as i can
Thank you. this video was interesting for me. I learned some interesting functions that I never used and that perfectly add my knowledge.
Glad we could help!
Awesome tutorial 👍 Thanks for doing this!
A great help for me. Thank you so much!
Thanks for the great tips! I have a specific issue:

Is it possible to have a song playing back, write it down on the midi score/tab, having it playing and me playing a bass line for example, recording it and seeing the score/tab playing back?
Thank you for this video. I'm not sure if I missed it, but is there a smart key for adding rests while using the step input method?
Great tutorial. One question I have that wasn't answered: how do you save a tab to pdf and print it?
File>Print>PDF>Save as PDF
Phenomenal!! Thank you for sharing!!
Do you think you can tell me how to adjust the height of the stems and beams? Sometimes they are too tall and over lap another staff.
When you start composing a piece in score, how do you set the time and key signature in your very first bar? Can you synchronise your score and MIDI track quantising?
How do you write out a triplet, say? How sophisticated can you make this, 7? 7:3? etc.
Really useful, thank you. I wonder why the very useful Diatonic Insert mode is not available in piano roll.
Are you able to cast/display the score to an external screen for say a horn section that’s trying to play along with the session live on stage?
nice tutorial!!!
Very Good brother! nice and simple scoring. I'm still trying to add a HAMMOND Organ GLISSANDO , I see the squiggle line but I need to turn it 45 degrees so it is slanting down top to bottom, any suggestions?
Super helpful video!
Thanks for the help
How van you copy and paste Notes to different systems in a score?
Like in Logic5
so Helpful thanks !!
I would love to use FL Studio but this is the key thing Logic has that I can't go without.
I have a problem: when looking at the layout of full partiture (like an orchestra director would), there are way too many pages for a 4 min piece! Thanks MoaM!! is there a way to move bars around in the page view so I can have like, four bars on teh top bar, with a repeat line
Do you know how to group quavers in groups of 4 instead of 3 (triplets) Some music in 6/8 has quavers with a little 4 over the top instead of the three quavers with the little 3 over the top of them.
Can you have score parts for each instrunent and edit in the scores themselves?

You have to enable advanced tools in your preferences under score: logicpro.skydocu.com/en/logic-pro-basics/advanced-tools-and-additional-options/
@@superpowerofthesong Thank you!!!

I’m starting to learn how to use Logic Pro X 10.4.7 and I don’t have the same views? Are you using the same version in your tutorial?

Hi There, exporting XML file to inport in muse for drums, piano harp and instrument names not showing in Muse.Anything I am missing here? Thanks
Does this translate for drums too? I’m trying to literally copy a score because I just couldn’t do it in piano roll.
how did you get to have score and piano roll in one screen set? can't manage it... anyone knows that?
Lots of useful info! Watched 22 min of this video trying to find how to quantise only selected notes in the score editor and i didn´t, it quantises the whole music :( Any help?
Its any key shortcut to create dynamics sygnatures? f (forte) - CMD+f ...etc. Thanks for help
Thanks so much. Is there also a way to export into a program like Finale or Sibelius?
Yes. As an XML file
Hello
cannot see the note value when I drag them up and down with the last version. How do you do that ?
Is it possible to add chord symbols to several parts all at once? Im making a score and I want to add chord symbols to two guitars, the bass and the piano. What do I do so I dont have to write the same chords four times?

Hey guys: trying to show the Time Code in the score. Seems it's not possible. Any ideas? Maybe show the marks? thanks guys!
Is it possible to import a notation I already have and make logic pro play it? Hope that makes sense. Thanks!
does anyone know how to turn your notation you have made into PDF from Logic? Thanks
Print as PDF
Aftr play and record, press CMD+5, once in the score press CMD+P, on the print window Accept and the next window will show you down left the possibility to print on PDF.

Thank you for your excelent videos. I have a question: how do I export a piano part from Logic to finale including the chord symbols?
Can someone help me literallly just wanna know how to view sheet music from midi a 30 second video. Can someone also tell me where I can find short simple videos
Hi MoaM, can the score editor write out 'swing' in the beginning so I can show 8th notes as swung 8ths? for jazz thingies. thanks!
Awesome, thanks..
How do I exit from the sore sheet
