      Strongman sports Popularity Declined!

    One thing I noticed while watching this back was look how happy Rob Kearney is at 26:43 when Luke hits the winning lift for the log. They're competitors in this competition and Rob was right up the top of the table, and he was still genuinely thrilled for Luke to make that winning lift. The comradery and sportsmanship in Strongman is second to none, as well as Rob just being such a standup guy.

      Yes, quite a contrast from Kaz, who lacked sportsmanship back in the day. But he has more than made up for it since.

    I think its nothing but logical that the Arnolds Strongman Classic is slowly becoming the main competition in strongman. Always heavy Events that really seperate the competitors, big prize money and a way better broadcast than wsm

    • @antoniocenteno1483
      @antoniocenteno1483 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Shaw's competition Strongest Man on Earth is equally good in my opinion. WSM was good for so many years but too much emphasis on speed. I like the max static events here.

  • @aidenlategan923

    Novikov’s technique on the dumbbell press is just spectacular. The way he almost acts like a spring in his leg to cushion the weight at the top. I think if all the competitors applied this technique then we would get some crazy results in this event.

      @danielmontesdeoca7027 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I dont think other athletes can apply that technique sadly, Novikov is leaner and smaller so is easier for him to isolate the movement of his hips. Someone like Shaw, Caron or Thor wouldnt be able to tilt the hips to provide that spring like movement.

    JF looked like he had more than 1000lbs in the Squat!
    Novikov was unreal in the dumbbell, I’d say it was historic
    Luke looked incredible in the log, just perfect technique
    Maxime on fire on the frame!
    And the champ, The Dragon, Martins finishing on a high note, winning the last event as usual, his 3rd time in a row winning on stones and beating Tom in all of them

    Wow finally the competition we all wanted! The weights are heavy af, and the line up is all rockstars. WSM has it's place, but it's all too light for my taste. Max squat and max log and I was already sold. Fantastic showing for a lot of the guys too. Stoltman's log, JF on the squat, and Licis on the stones were all pretty awesome to see. Novikov put on a hell of a show as well, as expected.

    My favorite back squat for max weight was 1981 WSM.
    Bill Kazmaier defeated Dave waddington with a squat nearly 1,000 lb raw. That is still one of the most impressive feats of leg strength ever done.
    I honestly don't know how many people in the world today could put 970 lb on a squat rack and come up with it with no suit and next to no wraps.

    Then Oleksi on the dumbbell, The Highland Oak on The Austrian Oak, little Rob Kearney suprising folks by leading after day one. Maxime with a Matueszesque Frame carry. Great competition. Martins being the perfect blend of size, strength and athleticism, as he preps for comps so well.

    I believe Martins is the best overall strongman of the modern generation. Shaw would win in the pure strength category, Eddie is the best static lifter, The Stoltman brothers are quick on Licic’s heals…. But for now, he’s the best overall strongman over the modern era

    Without the suit the max that day would of been 880-900. They use the suit to make numbers higher for the crowd and wow factor. Can add 100lb to lift.

    The strongmen of old would hoist platforms with people. An older WSM had a carry event and a squat with that format. They should bring it back. What a spectacle.
