    I got the ZV1-F as my first true video camera since college. For me, it was the price and flip screen that sold me. With the idea that it’ll become my second camera down the road.
    For my use, I’ve really enjoyed it. The screw placement DID give me a bit of a chuckle…

    I nearly got this camera but then got the ZV E10 instead because I wanted to be able to put in a proper portrait lens. The E10 fixes a lot of the issues with this camera, and it has a lightning fast autofocus, plus you can rig it out with proper lenses, lens filters etc. I'm very happy with it so far, and the fact that it's so small and light is great. Possibly one of the best features it has is the flippable touchscreen, and the fact that you can charge it's battery via USB without removing it. I basically never take out the battery. I flip the E10 on its side and use a small tripod to hold it out far enough to get a good "talking head" shot, it works very well. Plus you can get insane buttery bokey with fast 1.4 lenses which absolutely blows the ZV1F out of the water in terms of actual photography.

    With the tripod mount being on the side you can now exchange batteries without removing the tripod plus when flipping out the lcd screen the tripod is center from the edge of the screen to the other edge of the camera. I have the RX100 V, so I know about the battery exchange in this older camera and bought the ZV-1M2 for the 18mm-50mm focal range. No overheating and 30-minute video record time limit. Cheers!

    Sony ZV E10 is around $600 and no lens. With a lens, the ZV E10 is about $800 starting..ZV1F about $500. ( It should be a $350 camera ). I am keeping mine. I haven't noticed a jiggle or vibration yet. I'll check. The ZV 1F is my B roll home movie video camera, no VLOG. Very good for blurry background, needed for improving homemade sci-fi movies. Very good that is has a microphone jack. Some reviewers are stating that it has a 1 " sensor. You did not, I think. thanks. It's sensor is 15.3 mm, I think. diagonal. One inch is 25 mm. Hey, I'm just being picky. The ZV 1F is almost too small! It could be larger for my hands, but again, this camera will be on a tripod most of the time. Great color! The placement of the thread to the side was to resolve the issue of the ZV-1 that you couldn't change the battery unless you took it off the tripod, which is a pain. It's a small, light weight camera. A mechanical shutter might cause a slight shake. Does it have an electronic shutter? If so, see if it makes a difference. On the whole though, I think I'll stick with my ZV-1.

    I got a ZV1F as a second camera to go with my ZV1 so the ZV1 could be on a tripod with the Ulanzi wide angle lense and the 1F could be used for different angle shots and on a gimbal and vlogs. But the focus on the 1F is so bad with constant pulsing that I took it back to the store and got a second ZV1 instead. It is a real shame as if the 1F had the same focus abilities as the ZV1 then it would of been an excellent little camera :(

    i guess what you mean is this is not great for beginners if this is going to be their very first camera, because of course you need a cam that you can use for everything. but this is great as a secondary camera for selfie vlogging and behind-the-scene. so, for beginners, if you're looking for your very first cam, zv-1f is not the best choice. but if you already have a better all around cam, zv-1f is best for your selfie vlogging needs since it's smaller, lighter, and simpler to use.

    Flawed haha yeah that was not my guess... this camera was SO FUN to use but I wish it was an exact zv1, just with the flat 20mm lens... but the stabilization is what bothered me the most, I didn't want to use CB and the Active was so jittery it was nuts! And the focus issue also got me. I hated the off center thread as well. Mine is also getting returned...

  • @KaneDoesOutdoors
    @KaneDoesOutdoors ปีที่แล้ว +26

    I could see this camera working well for my videos since I need something small and light that performs well in low light - that wobble issue is a little strange though.
    I use the ZV1 and it's good 95% of the time - the built in ND filter is huge, low light performance etc. I have been having some focus issues with the ZV1 though where the background comes in and out of focus, even using a fixed aperture setting and tripod. It's just weird and was driving me literally crazy when I edited one of my recent videos. Curious what your thoughts are on that.

    • @benjohnsoncreative
      @benjohnsoncreative  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I personally haven’t had the background issue with the zv1, I’ll try to keep my eye on that tho. Maybe double check that your stabilization is off while on the tripod , it can make the background do weird stuff if it’s on sometimes

    • @KaneDoesOutdoors
      @KaneDoesOutdoors ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@benjohnsoncreative Good point about the stabilization - I wondered about that myself but never had the issue in the past. The guys at my local camera store were pretty sure something was wrong so I sent it to Sony to get checked. My gear has a pretty rough life so it wouldn’t be a surprise.
      I picked up the ZV1F to use in the meantime and recorded my first video yesterday. I think I prefer it over the ZV1. No focus issues to my eyes, instant on. Really helps that the tripod mount is moved over. Does what I need and probably what most people need who make simple content. Definitely a few minor quirks though 😂

    Hi, new subscriber here. Warning: The following is a bit of a rant: Not sure if you got the memo (there was a memo?) but Sony discontinued the ZV-e10 on December 3, 2021. 3 months after I bought my ZV-e10 🤣The EU dropped the import duty tax on video recorded limit ~ 2019. This meant there is no recording time limit on non-still cameras. A main selling point of the e10 etc. There was 1 firmware update during the e10's short lifespan. However, Sony never sent out (apparently) an official edict to retailers or to content creators with affiliate links to mention this. This commentator bought an (unknown to me at the time) an unsupported camera by the manufacturer. I failed to do my research on my ZV-e10. That's on me. What person in their right mind would buy an unsupported product with no future firmware updates? 🤷‍♂ Content creators with affiliate links, and retailers/online market places still continue to peddle the e10. Ethics anyone? Now I did a brief serch of the comments below and there is no mention of this 🤔I might not even get a reply from "Ben Johnson" 🙂Jim Shannon is my real name. No tin foil hats here.

    I understand your criticisms of the camera, but I think in a lot of ways you are expecting this $500 fixed focal length camera to perform at a level that it wasn't designed to do, and for a target market that will never ask the camera to perform at. The jiggle bug is wrong, but some of the other complaints like the IS are just not reasonable for this level of camera. Again, remember, this is likely a first camera for many, and a transition from a smartphone to a real camera. In that use case, for beginners or those getting more into content creation I think it's a well fitting shoe

Still, if one is buying a new camera and 4K is there, one might as well spend the extra dosh on 4K rather than not have 4K and then feel the need to buy a 4K camera later. Quarter Inch Thread maybe was moved to help easier access to battery and card whilst camera is attached? I could be wrong. I have the ZV1 with a custom lens for wider view. I like it a lot. But yes the audio is not good. It heats up and I have to use my iPhone for vlog.
