WOW, Willie, five reels in one haul, that's an amazing find! I really liked the take down and reassembly of the SEARS reel, it certainly looked to be well engendered, and I have a sneaky suspicion it's going to perform really good! I don't know about you, but I really miss Sears and Roebuck, they had some good merchandise, and their return policy was second to none! My mother retired from SEARS after 35 years and was the first female staff officer for the entire corporation, she managed part of the SEARS INSTALLATION DIVISION. Great video, take care and be safe!

      Hey CJ!
Man, you definitely had a connection with Sears.. I miss it as well. I can still remember going in the doors at the Hampton Sears.. just a cool place.
I’m actually going to send the Sears reel to Dan in Minnesota and he’s going to be the official tester. He’s going to panfish with it and make his own video on it as well as a possible article on “Fishing Talks”.. I got lucky finding all them at one time but since I’ve already worked on many century 100B’s I’ve already taken them apart, cleaned them, and put them back together..
      Thanks for watching CJ!!

      @TheGraytOutdoors  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey man!
Yeah, I changed the name. I was doing a lot of things that had nothing to with fishing and I felt like the name of the channel was throwing people off.. fishing is obviously still the main focus but the new name makes it easier for folks to understand there’s going to be other things happening around here so don’t get uptight if I’m camping on a motorcycle or skateboarding to work.. lol 😂. Winter time is a terrible time to try to fish for me (as well as a lot of people) so I have to make up for that and still give people something somewhat entertaining to watch.. I’m gonna try to get back up your way this summer so don’t be surprised if I look you up… a possible collaboration at Stick Bridge is calling my name😂…
Thanks for wondering about me, makes me feel good coming from someone as high up the ladder as yourself!! 😉

What a haul! Looking forward to the next reel takedown to see if it is like you think it will be. The Sears reel was a surprise when you got to the drag assembly, will this next one have an equally interesting departure from the Century set-up. I can't say that I'm crazy about the funky green color. Keep those videos coming because you got a lot of fans waiting for the next one. Thanks for some good entertaining you-tube content.

      Hey there!!
It was a definite surprise. Going there for one reel and getting 5 that even the owner wasn’t aware of, was pretty cool..
I have to say, the other Japanese reel was very different.. but I won’t ruin it for ya.. 😉..
but I will tell ya that I’ve already torn into the the 3 century 100B’s. There all cleaned out, looking good, and functioning..
Didn’t make any videos on them because I’ve already done so many 100B’s.. and I just couldn’t wait.. sometimes you have to do things for yourself😉.
I truly appreciate you watching and I’m extremely grateful for you.. I don’t have fans, I’m not worthy of fans😂, I have friends. We’re all friends here.. but I’m very happy that you’re enjoying it, and I mean that..

Hi Willie very interesting camp stove. We always bought Coleman items. They were well made. I suspect, they still are. I really liked that stove. Ollie's has very good items, at great prices. They always change the stock. It's a fun place to shop. 🤭
Wow, 5 reels in one shop. You hit the big time and a great price. The one from Japan looks like parts from other reels were used to make the reel, as you said. 🤭
Are you going to use the others as parts or use them this spring?
Tell All Hi and meow for me.
Take care and stay safe till next time.

      Howdy Skye!!
The stove worked great and is going to go with me on my camping trips this spring/summer and I love Ollie’s . You don’t always find what you want but they’re still the first place I try.
The reels are all great. I’m sending the Sears reel and the other little Japanese reel to Dan in Minnesota. He’s going to be the official tester of both reels.
The other 3 Johnson century’s I’ve already cleaned up and they’re ready to hit the water as soon as the weather is good enough to give them I try..
hope you’re feeling better and as always, thanks for watching. Everyone says “Hi Skye and Meow”🐈‍⬛..

You need to make a to be fished with area after they've been worked on in your room and then put only the ones that haven't been wished with there until they're ready to be stored or your ready to move onto the next ones.

    • @TheGraytOutdoors
      @TheGraytOutdoors  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I’ve sorta already done that.. the way I sat up the cabinet, one shelf has the reels I’ve been working on. Some won’t go to that shelf unless it’s a different reel I’ve never fished with on the channel or it was a complete basket case and locked up. The 3 Century’s I got from this video are no different than any other Century so they’ll get filtered in through time.. plenty of others to fish with that no I es seen before.

Send me that Sears reel aftrer your done testing. Gotta love those old Godzilla reels, well built with heavily borrowed designs. That particular reel model showed with a few different brand names. I guess you could call it a trade reel that was marketed by a number of sellers.

I have a Sears like that sitting on the shelf , I picked up years ago.I always thought it was a well made reel. I believe anything that Sears sold that said Japan on it, I believe it is from the late 60s until early 70s. These reels could have been produced by Compac or Olympic from Japan , or another Japanese manufacturer. Sears reels from earlier time frame from 40s and 50s ,alot was made by Shakespeare. There is a website you can research that tells who Sears had manufacturer there products for them. These are very well built reels for there time frame

      Hey there!!
      Thanks for the info!!
I actually bought those reels and went straight home, walked in the house, sat down at the table, turned the camera on, and started tearing into the Sears reel.. I was very impressed with how solid it was. A lot of the Japanese reels from different companies were not great reels. Even the other small Japanese reel that I purchased with the group wasn’t “bad🤔” but the Sears seems a little better. The only thing I saw a little off about the Sears reel was the anti-reverse switch. It’s a bit sketchy.. but it works. I’m looking forward to using it. Now that I’ve had time to look it up, I see a lot of that model Sears reel on line but still haven’t found a company make or year made.. Gonna keep looking.
      Thanks for watching!!

I believe that Sears reel was manufactured by Daiwa in the late 50's or early 60's when they manufactured under contract for American distributors, before they started marketing their reels directly in America under their own name. The reason I say that is because I have a reel that's identical in every way except the cap is a light bronze color, the body is battleship grey, and the name plate reads "CAPT-FISHFINDER NO. 800A". When researching my reel I found pages saying Daiwa made these reels, the early ones (like mine) say "MADE IN JAPAN" on the foot, and later models with variations (different drag, I think?) had Daiwa's name on the foot. I remember seeing a picture from an auction site but don't recall the exact verbiage. Great video, happy to click the Subscribe button for this one. Cheers!

      Hey there!
I find it extremely amusing as to how many other reels made by one company are distributed under different names..
The Ted Williams line for Sears for example was mostly Shakespeare but Daiwa had a few in there as well. A few minor cosmetic changes and a Shakespeare 1766 became a Ted Williams 340 for example.
Every time I go out and hit the antique stores or flea markets I usually come across at least one strange something that peaks my curiosity. That’s why I love this stuff.. even though I’ve fished all my life, it’s amazing how much is out there that I had no idea existed. So even though it’s old, it’s all new to me..
Thanks so much for watching, the info, and subbing. I very much appreciate it!!
      Willie
