    I'm heading in to MST125 next semester, and really enjoying this course and the whole experience of studying again. I'm doing it now in my early 50's after ~30 years of working as a BSc/PhD chemist, and it is a breath of fresh air for me.
    Congratulations on completing it ....I hope to say the same in 3-4 years time.
    I'll be planning a further degree (BSc or MSc who knows...) for retirement....a treat and a way to keep active post 65.

    Well done! I completed S111 last year and it taught me a lot (mostly about how much more organised I need to be, but definitely still interesting in it's own right). I've been struggling to justify doing a second undergraduate degree that isn't obviously going to benefit me right away, so it's nice to see someone about to finish Q77 who was motivated by similar "I want it because I want it" reasoning.

    • @LuciaMontesEN
      @LuciaMontesEN  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Definitely! Some people feel like you only need a degree to do a certain job but sometimes you just want to learn, or have a different challenge. Best of luck with your studies! S111 was fun for me because it’s quite generic so you get to learn about multiple fields, and also a good starting point for getting organised

    Congrats on getting this degree!!! I’m 25 and happened upon your midlife crisis video (not realizing it was five years old now) and this video came up next! I’m so happy for you and really inspired by your journey. I also studied marketing thinking that it was my passion (I always loved acting & doing presentations) but I have such a math and science brain too, and I kind of wish I knew to study those in college. I’m not sure what I’ll do next, but thanks so so much for sharing your story with us. I feel inspired now to work on my own :)

    Well done for completing the course Lucia! You make a good point that doing an exam at home may be much more challenging than what people think - the exam hall has much more structure and it can be easier to get focused there. I also agree with you on group projects. These are much more likely to work with full-time students at a traditional university who have more opportunity to see each other. Even then though it seems unfair that a candidate's success can depend on the performance and cooperation (or lack of it) from other students,

    A BIG Congratulations to you, thank you for sharing your experiences, I have been watching your OU videos for a few years now.
    I also completed my Level 3 exams in June (90 credits) and submitted my 30 credit Research Project in August. I have FINALLY finished my BSc Hons Biology degree.
    I love The OU but the only criticism I have is that they made the at home open book exams so hard, like nothing on the exams was even taught in the module. One of my grades badly suffered but I’m so glad I passed all my final exams. Just waiting for my project to be marked and hopefully I will be graduating at the end of the year 🙌🏼

      If it is any consolation, the distance learning University of London Bachelor's I was doing did the same: open book exams at home way harder than a 2 hours something exam in an exam centre. Instead of two hours, they took five or six in some cases. And that is counting you really know your stuff.

    Being autistic, I've found working and doing my exams/EMAS at home has been the best thing for me. In an exam room, my anxiety and depression would be a lot worse than normal, as a disabled student I was granted an exemption from attending an exam centre. I was awarded my History degree two days ago. 😁

    This was an important video for me to watch. The job that I do will allow me to take an hour here and there for extra study. But what it wouldn't allow for is online group project work. So I'm going to keep a lot of my holidays from work this year to compensate. I wouldn't have considered that. I start next month which is when I get my holidays and normally I get a large chunk in early which in this case would have been a major mistake ha. So thanks for the video

    I’ve decided to study history with the open university with a Feb 2022 start. I work full time, doing an apprenticeship but I’m so sick of not having much to do after work during the week. I work from home so an online degree whilst working is so useful. Im going to go full time because I want to finish it as fast as possible, but I’m worried I’ll burn out. Im only 19 so fingers crossed it all goes as planned 😂😂👍

    I have to echo your comment about the take home final exams this year, they were way harder. Another point briefly mentioned that I agree with is that the Fluid Mechanics module needs serious reorganisation. I am looking forward to videos on the Quantum Mechanics, this and Electromagnetism will be my final two modules next year.

    • @LuciaMontesEN
      @LuciaMontesEN  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, looking at past papers or TMAs didn’t really help prepare for them. And glad you feel the same way about the Fluid Mechanics module.

      @aresgalamatis7022 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LuciaMontesEN I got my results and setting aside the TMA contributions, should I not made some huge mistake, I got 10% lower in fluid mechanics than I did on all other exams to strengthen your point that at least this year, the exam was very hard. Anyway, I still loved the math parts of the module and can't wait for QM and EM to start in October, will you publish a review for either or both before?

      huye de la uned... no tienen buen sistema. Yo tb hacia fisica, pero he preferido irme a una FP y mas adelante ire a la open. Sistema de evaluacion desfasado, no tienen material de estudio ni nada... es algo asi como toma este libro, nos vemos este dia en el examen. Fisica esta algo mejor planteado que ingenierias, pero es igual. PD: soy ingeniero y solo lo hago por placer. Empece ielectrica y es lo tipico de estudias como hacer alitas de pollo y te piden pato a la naranja en el examen. Fisica, al menos, las practicas son asignturas aparte.

      @@javiermartinblazquez1379 Antes, el grado en OU era un poquito flojito, comparado con el programa que puedes hacer en la UNED. Eso lo han corregido, y mucho, en la Open Uni con el nuevo Master integrado M06 (asi tendras tus 240 ECTS) con la opcion de entrada avanzada, si ya vienes de un buen bachillerato en ciencias. Empiezan este septiembre.

      @@javiermartinblazquez1379 Pero que no tienen en la UNED un buen sistema es quedarse corto. No se en fisica, que me parece un poco mas limpio y mas claro, pero el de matematicas es un horror, y he leido varios de sus libros de primero para asegurarme. La UNED es el no criterio, es la no educacion, es opositar y no aprender. Tu te buscas otra manera de aprender, la que puedas, por otros medios, tu solo, y, si eso, te vas al examen y lo pasas como puedas y ya esta. No hay nada mas.

    I would like to do BSc Mathematics from OU and eventually get a PhD...as a hobby, something I would like to do for myself. I've been thinking about it for the past 5-6 year,s I suppose I could've done it by now. I already have a career that pays really well but at £7k/year it would make the degree a very expensive hobby. Not to mention other hobbies of mine and continuous professional upskilling I have to do, I really don't know if I will be able to complete the degree. Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

    How did you end up doing on the exams? I also started Quantum this year, but had to defer as I wasn’t confident being able to do 2 level 3 exams 2 days apart and get reasonably good marks (especially when the group project started for Astrophysics and took all my time - and more :) ).
    Btw I also started on Q77 originally but switched to Physics only while the modules were still the same.

    Hola, he decidido estudiar esta carrera desde españa pero tengo varias preguntas.
    Tú te ves preparada para hacer unas oposiciones en españa para profesor de física por ejemplo?
    Has utilizado recursos extra para estudiar en internet o la web de la OU y los libros fueron suficientes? Se me daba bien integrar y derivar pero se me ha olvidado ya y esa era toda mi formación en matemáticas de física no sé nada.
    Si empiezo de cero lo ves viable?
    Cuánto subieron los precios durante los seis años? He leído que los precios suben cada año.
    Tú pediste el OUSBA? Yo puedo pagarlo mensualmente pero no cualifico para el OUSBA porque no soy solvente. Tengo discapacidad y cobro una pensión muy modesta pero me da para pagarme la carrera viviendo en casa de mis padres.
