    Who doesn't want a 3 year old for 30 years I ask?! :P
    Love me some floofy bird. So cute when they do that little slow eyes closes at you. With a little beak grind. Melts your heart.
    Love teaching Buddy new things, I wasn't sure he would pick up on things, cause he was already 6 years old, and had so many behavioral issues. He has come such a long way. I found one of those clean up toys on amazon, it is 3 different colored bins, with 3 different colored plastic "trash" items, for them to pick up and place into them. Still teaching him how to toss toys. My budgies were day 1 experts at doing that lol. I have rattan balls everywhere!
    I can still only give buddy scritches with my nose for the most part. He is starting to let me use a finger more and more. Wish Buddy would sing other tunes, some days he is in love with his car alarm sound lol.
    Bird room > cage, if you can afford it :D
    I am looking into getting a 4 season outdoor aviary attached to the side of my bedroom at some point. Something my birds and myself can enjoy. That also opens up the idea of getting something bigger, like a macaw to work with. Really love the idea of working with rescues more and more.
    Great video as always!
    Had some issue with my birds tryin to chew on window frames, now I just put their toys in front to block them out of it. As well as cardboard. Works pretty well for budgies, not sure on cockatiels. Buddy doesn't get into that... yet

    • @TheParrotTeacher
      @TheParrotTeacher  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Everyone should! Especially if they are as cute and fluffy as cockatiels lol
      That toy sounds awesome! Do you know what it's called? It's also great he's learning how to do it. That kind of training is great fun for them and to an extent mimics some foraging activities. HAH budgies are pretty awesome like that.
      It all depends on the bird I guess. The fact he's happy for you to pet him is awesome as it is I think. Our two haven't been too excited to learn songs recently. Fish is slightly better with it, but Chip just likes wooo wooo!
      Have to agree. Bird rooms are pretty good, although some people we knew came up with a big con for them. If birds have night frights in them, especially if the room isn't lit well enough there much more scope for them to get hurt. We would still like to have one though!
      Nice idea! Lots of space for you to play with there! Wow, I love them, but those beaks! They can bite fingers off!
      Thank you!!
      Good ideas. They just love to chew. Cockatiels know when something is naughty too, so they'll try to do it lol

      @@TheParrotTeacher www.amazon.com/dp/B07WQKBG3B/ They make a few parrot training toys I noticed, like the rings on the wood peg thing as well. Hope you guys can get it over there! I noticed a lot of things are lacking on EU.amazon :(
      Main reason I didn't get into parrots for a very long time was. When I was a little kid, my gran had a panama amazon. He was... hmm...Satan, yes, Satan fits nicely. Lunged, bit, laughed (serious villain laugh). I never wanted birds at all, till 20 years later on. Glad I started with budgies, helped me get some confidence.
      I know now why that devil bird acted the way he acted though. Small cage, all seed diet, never let out, 0 toys, etc, etc. My gran didn't know any better 30 years ago ya know. Really wish I could go back in time on that one and save him from his early death (aunt ended up with him, who was a chain smoker).
      All you can really do is grow and learn. Hope you don't make the same mistakes. Always get the avian vet to perform an necropsy as well. You will never truly know cause of death, or health issues you could of prevented otherwise.
      Tell Sophie Hi! Hope all is well with Scampi!

    Thank you. Very informative video and well-made. About loudness - I don't know why I think that cockatiels are still quieter than budgies. Budgies are loud and... they are loud whole day. Cockatiels chirp less often and it's a nice (for me) chirp.
    Altough I saw one cockatiel that was making a VERY loud sound which was piercing my ear, but it was just this one fellow.

    • @TheParrotTeacher
      @TheParrotTeacher  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Monika,
      Thank you! Cockatiels tend to be loud in bursts. Our two can be SO noisy when they decide they want to have a screm session.
      Budgies are nosier for longer aren't they? But it's more of an incessant chatter, unless alarmed!

    • @TheParrotTeacher
      @TheParrotTeacher  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hey Suryansh!
      Getting a cockatiel who loves seeds to eat veggies/fruit can be tricky! But it's not impossible.
      A couple of quick tips are:
      Cut the vegetables and fruit very fine, so it's small pieces (they shouldn't get too much fruit due to the sugar in it!) and mix it in with the seeds.
      Eat the vegetable yourself in front of them, or pretend to eat it then see if they will try it.
      Try lots of different ones or use them with toys or foraging activities.
      Keep trying! As they are fussy eaters!
      Sophie has a video on fussy eating cockatiels on her channel that might be worth looking at!

    The hilarity tiels get into is what leads people to question thier intelligence. Like everyone else,they can make stupid decisions. There's a video on reddit of a tiel falling on his back into a box because he leaned too far over the edge of the surface he was standing on while exploring the box. Within seconds, he's upside down with his feet moving, trying to right himself.

    • @TheParrotTeacher
      @TheParrotTeacher  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there,
      Other than the colourings the only real difference is Lutino's can be more prone to health issues. There is also some anecdotal evidence that male lutino's sing more but this isn't proven!

      @@TheParrotTeacher ah I see, It seems that the bird I experienced with may have suffered on health issues, either no healthy diet, loneliness, or not being able to fly around at a such a small cage. I definitely agree with you on the singing part! he mostly whistle a lot but I think thats close on singing (?)
      I have learned that by now birds are very very tricky pets and costs a lot of patience and money to begin with not only they are for decoration and also for feeding sunflower seeds. I may have do a lot more research than that but it made me learned about the simple basics so thank you!
