You're close! I believe this album came out in '88. Whole album is AWESOME and it's titled Keeper of the 7 Keys part 2. . I want out, March of Time, Save Us, Keeper of the 7 Keys and Dr. Stein are other great and classic tracks from this record. They changed vocalists in the 90's but both are great and they are all reunited now and actually have 3 vocalists, including Kai Hansen who formed the group and sang on the very first album.
On the first EP and the first album, they were rather a speed metal band (with almost neo-classical gutars). There is a great live version of th song "How many Tears". The version from the show in Wacken is really cool, because all 3 singers share the vocals.
Great song and wonderful vocals from a young Michael Kiske. Only one of many great songs like Keeper of the seven keys, Halloween, How many tears, or Dr. Stein.
All the later 'progressive' and symphonic/opera-ic Nightwish-es an so on have learned what to do from these guys - The big 6 of Power/Happy Metal: Iron Maiden, Manowar, Helloween, Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian and... Running Wild 😁 5 of them are from Europe, 4 - from Germany and 3 of them have much to do with Kai Hansen - the true godfather of the true Happy Metal...
Ive seen them live twice. 2018 and 2023 both times in Chicago. Absolutely phenomenal

Keeper of the seven keys is their best song. I highly reccomend you listen and react with lyrics as its quite long and an absolute masterpiece.
