    With the Ford OBS you need to do the 6.0 transmission cooler. Fits between the AC condenser and radiator perfectly. Also use 4low when moving that slow to use the low gearing to take the stress off the transmission.

      Those older diesels lack the big tranny cooler of the 6.0 ..I put a 6.0 cooler in my 2002 7.3. It was 3x bigger than the factory ...and it was a drop in..plug play. Not sure in an OBS could do that. Actually descending in low in an automatic can kill it faster than a climb UP. The worst is slow speed back roads where the converter can't lock in.

      @@frenchfryfarmer436 Last year my son and I took a road trip from NYC to Colorado, Utah and Yellowstone... so grateful my 2003 Ford E350 extended van had NO issues.

      @@DHFlip18 we did 6000 miles in a 2013 high top E350 5.4 , wheel chairvan pulling 5000# trailer with motos, mtn bikes kayaks. That was summer 2021. I drove it to Cali fall of 2020 for work..heavily loaded. Van has 240k on it. Ran like a champ this summer . We did climb up Beartooth pass from the north (Red Lodge) ...the flowing day from our arrival home the engine light came one... needs a valve job. Lol. The Lord was looking over our shoulder.. I have lots of vans. That one is gonna get an IDI and a Quigley conversion in the next few years. Driving a 2014 v10 E350 ambo currently . Gets same mileage on the open road as the 5.4 12-14mpg and could pull a house. Its got the same motor and tranny as an F550. Next time gonna take a CJ7 on a trailer. The v10 will be wonderful to climb ALL those mtn passes we love. HUGE advantage is these van are DURABLE and parts are EVERYWHERE. I carry tools, and receipts for alternators, starters from NAPA, if I lose one I pull in for a free replacement. AutoZone sells a lifetime warranted pack of coilpacks .. if one goes bad pull into any one of 350 stores nationwide for a free replacement. "Common as pond water"

    • @DHFlip18
      @DHFlip18 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@frenchfryfarmer436 Yup I love my E350. It's the same 5.4L as yours but I bought it with 92k miles. I'm at 123k I'm almost 2 years of ownership. We did just over 6k miles as well. I'm thinking of doing spark plugs and coils this summer too.
      Decided to get the extended for snowboarding, downhill mountain biking and kayaking trips. It's been very reliable, though I did have my catalytic converter stolen last year and of course, no original in stock from Ford so I had to go the MagnaFlow route... CEL came back on after 8 months indicating P0420. Replaced all 02 sensors with original Ford, light turned back on... at least the cat is under 5 year warranty so I'll have them replace it again.
      Does the Quigley offer locking differential in the rear? Always wanted that along with the WeldTec grocery getter kit.

    • @frenchfryfarmer436
      @frenchfryfarmer436 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DHFlip18The Quigley front axle was from a scrap yard E250 1996 ...Dana 44 w/ 4:10. I have a bunch of E Series here w/ limited slip (LS) rears...gonna just use them as is. I didn't want the scrap yard rear axle. The LS makes a huge difference. I grabbed several NP205 transfers from a guy stripping down old highboys (1977-79) ..thay are designed as "divorced" so I can keep using all my ford/jasper reman trannies. Three of my trucks and vans have reman trannies in them. 5.4 and IDIs . .. I dont want anything heavier for this wheelchair van build. I am gonna also 4x a 1991 E350 IDI cut away ambo as well.. Shes gonna get a Dana 60 from a 1997 F350. Projects, projects. Just grabbing parts at this point. I am grabbing all the stuff I can now. Gonna have to make nice with the local driveshaft shop. Go thru the axle codes, and find a scrap yard with ambos. They were usually ordered with LS rears. Order the heavier Moog front coil spring, throw a few extra main rear springs in the stack and call it a day. I cannot see spending that kinda $$ on Weldtec ...but thats just me. I am resourceful...and CHEAP. Gonna make a 1/4" (maybe 1/2") catalytic shield to make it tough on thieves at trailheads. Gotta think outside the box for those bastards.

    Nothing worse than ice to drive on, everyone needs chains for sure. My thoughts when I am driving in that situation because I live in Minnesota is I never try to drive through it, because they either close the road, or people up ahead always get stuck and no one can get by at some point. Be careful, give the tranny a good cooling off. Thank goodness for the truck house🥶🙏🌟
