Bert Kaempfert truly was a genius! To arrange and conduct all those different instruments in a way that's both cohesive and logical and yet making the listener engaged and excited at the same time! I also love how he makes background vocals an intricate part of the arrangement! It's one of his trademarks. Love this guy!!
I also grew up listening to the Swingin' Safari and the album by that name. In fact, I still have the album and sadly don't have a turntable anymore. Not to be daunted, I now have the CD and also downloads. That said, Bert Kaempfert surely seems to be having a blast conducting the orchestra. In fact, if I didn't know better, I'd say he was faking it. But that was his style. Thanks to whoever uploaded this. I really wish I could see it in 1080. Thanks anyway.
I had not heard this one in fifty years but now I hear it again I remember it was played a lot in radios back then and I liked to hear it. Brings to me so many pleasant remembrances of my High School days.
091622/1422h PST 🇺🇸 ahhh the nostalgia….I, first heard Bert Kaempfert way back in 1967. I bought the 33.33 RPM from a secondhand shop in Bangalore, India. I, still have it and is played on my GRUNDIG, even now. After 55 years Bert , still lives in my heart. Life was great those days. But now………….? Thank you for publishing these great Orchestras….
Originally composed by the late Henry Mancini, who also composed other classic theme tunes such as Pink Panther and Moon River. Bert did a wonderful cover version of this.
Wow, never heard this one! The GREAT "Fips" as he was lovingly called by his friends. I have been a BIG fan of the Bert Kaempfert since about 1965 when I was 15. Wish I could have this on DVD...
A brilliant arrangement,,, Love the orchestrated details - especially the Baby Elephant's 'squealing' its delight 1:01-1:05 😄🎶🎺🎶🔆 My mum had a few Kaempfert LPs,,, Many Thanks for posting this wonderful tune, Tomas!!
👍 Thanks - that is a very unique way of conducting an Orchestra and I just love it! Job well done! I was enjoying every minute of it, also I like this music very much. ❤😊❤
A wonderful unique Kaempfert rendition of this Mancini classic. I had four great Kaempfert LP's, but I am hearing this Kaempfert version for the first time. Thank you TH-cam and #tomaslapastilla
Unwiederbringlich!
Tony Fisher (trumpet, 2nd frm left) is the guy who created "The Bert Kaempfert Orchestra" to keep Bert's music alive, in cooperation with Bert's daughter Marion. As far as I know they released one CD so far ("Music of a Legend") but they've performed with the orchestra at several locations in the UK and in some other European countries.
From the album "Safari Swings Again" (1977) which also includes some other famous standards like "Pata Pata" and "Sugar Bush". And ..... some fabulous Kaempfert originals of course, like "The Way I Love You" and "Walking with Fips". "Fips" was Bert's nickname.
BERT KAEMPFERT MARAVILLOSA ORQUESTA SIEMPRE ADMIRE Y ADMIRO AL GRAN MAESTRO UNA MÚSICA INCONFUNDIBLE ELEGANTE ALEGRA EL ESPÍRITU ME ENCANTA 🙋👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏🌟❤❤
Never knew he recorded this even in live performance. The only real hit record of this on 45 rpm in the USA was Lawrence Welk who charted for 16 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and in the Top 10 of the Adult Contemporary Chart. The Album by Welk also landed in the Top 10.
Only now getting reintroduced to Bert Kaempfert .I never realized how many of his songs were used for shows and movies .That Happy Feeling was the Sandy Becker TV show theme; Swinging Safari was the theme for the match game ,this song The Elephant Walk was used in the movie Hatari with John Wayne
From the 1962 movie Hatari. Song composed by Henry Mancini. Billy Vaughn and his Orchestra also had a hit with it. Also the theme song of one of The TV Daytime Game Shows but don't remember which one. A TV Series based on the movie aired around 1963 called Daktari.
Cool Bert Kaempfert arrangement of a ditty from the Mancini-scored HATARI! Nice to see a band play it, but I want to see live baby elephants while it's playing, too!
Bert - my hero for light music since 1966. Totally unique. He composed a lot of his own music like 'Moon over Naples' which became [EDIT] 'Spanish Eyes'. [Not Strangers in the Night as I said before - I wasn't thinking... - thanks Dale Scheider!]
Great cover version by Kaempfert, who was a big fan of Henry Mancini. Lots of great musicians here, can't ID all of them, but I know for sure that the trumpet section is (left to right) Bob Lanese, Tony Fisher, Heinz Habermann, Werner Gutterer and Ack van Rooyen. The bald flautist is Herb Geller, the conga player is Nippy Noya, and I recognize three of the trombonists: Peter Herbolzheimer, Jiggs Whigham, ______ and Waldemar Erbe.
All these trombone, flute, violin, trumpet players still around or not. I know jiggs, tony fisher, and bob lanese are. The red head trombone player died a few years ago i seen it in the paper. Ack Von Rooyen is 83 cant believe he is that old.
I have to admit that this arrangement caught me by surprise in a positive fashion. It's got mellow, laid back "sleazy" type groove to it. I'm a pretty big fan of Mancini but never really cared for his version as it sounded too cheesy and childish for my liking. Bert got this one juuuuust right.
Wish we could afford these good shows today instead of inane reality shows and sick programs.

I grew up listening to this every Sunday. My dad was a big fan! Such great memories for me!
Was it in the hymn book 📕? 😁
Certainly. The Missive of Kaemfert!

Bert did a wonderful cover version of this.
I grew up listening to my dad's albums of Bert. I still love him now. Thanks for sharing
Smooth, life was good then, you can't beat sheer class.
Immer wieder gern.
I have Gentleman Jim (from Living It Up) like the mine (since many years ago, in 6 different mobile equipments).
Esa melodía me recuerda mi adolescencia que tiempos tan hermosos esa si era buena música bravo 😊
This was regularly played on "Family Favourites" on BBC Radio 2 on my childhood Sundays
Qepd. Bert Kaempert

Relaxing, yet never dull. Enjoyed Bert Kaempfert’s sound since i was a lad.
Klasse! Top!
Je remonte 60 ans en arrière... merci !
Waldemar, the trombonist furthest away is still alive. Was at a golden wedding with him a few weeks ago. I think he is 89 years old.
What was Waldemar's last name?
This was played on the movie Hatari with John Wayne. Great song
¡Genio......esta música no pasa de época...!

So loved Hatari - this was the theme song - movies about wildlife in Africa were the rage in the 1960s
In France this was "Daktari" with this famous Clarence….
I never knew he was from West Germany. Great memories of this music growing up in the USA.
Chefchaot Third generation American. My ancestors are from Romania .

Thanks for sharing this old favourite !
Das waren noch Zeiten schön.
Still love Mr. K.'s. style of directing. At one point, he looked like he was swinging his trunk.

ADORO TODAS ESTAS MÚSICAS DO BERT! NA MINHA ADOLESCÊNCIA ERA O QUE A GENTE MAIS DANÇAVA NAS FESTINHAS... QUE DELÍCIA!!! QUANTAS SAUDADES...
Excelente Bert Kaempfert and his orchestra

Now I am listen with the Music of The Bee Gees 💓 nice songs ever since when i was young until now
A lot better than the Mancini orignal. I really like how the brass section emulate the trumpeting of an elephant.
Bert Kaempfert is the best!!!
Anyone who says otherwise is the enemy and is to be treated as such.
Grandioos.
Simplesmente maravilhoso 💖 parabéns 👏👏

Bert looks like he is a swinging cat just enjoying the grove not a care in the world
He's enjoying his orchestra's version of this wonderful tune! Thanks Bert and
Henry Mancini (Composer).
I like Bert Kaempfert's version better than Mancini's. I prefer Kaempfert over all of his contemporaries period.
I agree! Bert is my favorite musician!
Oh now I understand it hahaha
He is enjoying his job!
