I just signed up for 19D in the guard as prior service. They're sending me to Ft Jackson for 9 weeks of basic and then upon returning, my unit will schedule me for cav scout AIT. That seems odd as all the research I've done it says osut at Benning.
@OP 14 I'm going in as National Guard so it may be different. I've re-verified to make sure and apparently not 100% of scouts go to OSUT from what they tell me. I was hoping for OSUT to be honest but it is what it is. Guess I'll be in basic with a melting pot of MOS's vs just Scouts :(

Thank you for sharing your experience, and thank you for serving our country. Were there any older guys in your troop? I believe in myself but nervous at the same time.
I go to training June 4th of 2024. Excited, a little scared since I don't see a lot of females in the Army. Especially in Combat MOS. But this is a new future for me, and I am looking forward to it.
@sierrakilo4322 It doesn't scare me, or else I wouldn't sign up for a job like that. I did research before I even agreed to doing Cavalry. There's plenty of females in combat MOS and Cavalry alone. I am perfectly capable and I'm doing everything in my power to get myself ready. I could care less if my recruiter cares for me or not. This is my future and I chose it, knowing perfectly well what I'm getting myself into on my own accord. Thank you.
When I went through 19D10 Training at Ft. Knox 1990 water survival training was required. The M3A1/2 Bradley CFV was then still considered an amphibious Vehicle so swimming was part of the training. 3/4 of a day in the deep water pool . So yes long ago scouts had to know how to swim.
Hey, wanting to do 19D national guard. I'm kind of worried about my joints though (all my joints pop a lot, especially my knees. Doctor says I'm good, but I do get occasional pain and stuff. And I'm pretty skinny). Do cav scouts have a lot of people get injured and wash out for stuff like that in training? I hear it's one of the rougher MOSs on leg joints.

Tre Haynes Hey thanks for the reply man! Yeah I definitely want to go for it and think I have the motivation for it, but am curious as to whether it's easy to get injured. Different people have told me different things, like "If you have bad knees, just do Air Force or MP or something" but other people have told me as long as I train hard and am careful I'll be fine. Is there anything in particular you would recommend I work on to prepare? Thanks man!
work on long marches with weight to get your knees ready. practice getting down fast and getting up fast. 3-5 second rushes are a big thing. so that's getting down fast and getting up even faster into a sprint. when you hike, try to have 35 pounds minimum in your bag. start out with 2 or 3 miles then work your way up. its a fun time man. but there are some things that may be difficult. like the confidence course and shit like that. other than that man its just motivation. you've got guys with you that are going through the same shit so you all push eachother. its a great thing man.

How do you earn the Stetson?
you either go on a "spur ride" which is kind of a training operation on meth, or you can just do it the "easy" way and go to combat...... I have never taken so much pride in a hat(cover) that I look so damn stupid in.... Bro get your spurs..... Both colors........"Animo Et Fide"
Ship next month thanks

No offense but you're not a real scout unless you did Agony, Misery and Heartbreak at Knox.
Echo 5/15 4th platoon-Knox 2005
3/7 Cav Bone Troop 3rd, 2nd platoon. Then HHT in the S3 shop driving my CSM for the command PST. If you ain't Cav you ain't Shit Garry Owen
