I’m 72. Because of you (and Rick Beato), I have started listening to new music again after not having done so for several decades. Of all the acts you’ve brought my attention to, Louis is, by far, my favorite. Thanks a lot man. Finding new music is one of life’s joys.
Same! Just saw the Darkness for the 1st time with my daughter and we are now huge fans and cannot wait to see them again. Hope they head to the US again in 2024!!
Every album Louis releases pushes so many limits, the groove is so undeniable - rightfully obsessed. Not only is he virtuosic at arranging, he's got one hell of a roster backing him up. Just mental.
@@PondersHollow you watch him on drums and songwriting and your jaw hits the floor. Then you watch him play base and, dude you are just being an asshole now.
Saw Louis Cole in Manchester at the Ritz. Absolutely magic. Louis surrounds himself with incredible musicians which creates this magic storm on stage where he is pushing himself, his band is pushing themselves, and they all land in this perfect racing lane of wonderful music. There's so many details, so many explosions of sonic colour... it's incredible.
@@MariaFrancescait's the mint green hat with the orange collar, it should be hideous, but I quite like it. Justin challenges both my music taste, and my eyes.

Been a fan of Louis, Knower and their whole ecosystem for years, and I'm so hyper to hear you talking about him! He and Gen also said this is the first time Knower has made any real money from an album, and no doubt some added publicity from you helped. Keep pushing out great musicians! And get Louis & Genevieve on the pod 😉 I will badger you till it happens! 😂
Killed it at 9:30 Club in DC tonight! Thanks for another great show. Best front man in rock! Don’t stay away too long! Safe travels on your way home and on the next leg of the anniversary tour.
Dude! When that video came out, i was CERTAIN it would be going viral in short order. But it didnt seem catch on the way i thought it would. I watched that video atleast 15 times, watched each person individually, and theres so many funny little things you'll notice, that you hadnt with one watch. Louis totally rules. Brilliant.

Ignored you. That's our approach to talent pretty much. You parked a lovely car opposite . Anyway I'd just like to say how much I enjoy your approach to this style of critical appreciation. I'm an Oxford Zoology M.A. (terribly handy underneath the Waltzers) and adore honest pure appraisal. Your enthusiasm is both infectious and kind yet subjective. Not sure if you know, but Louis Cole's old roommate (who he still collaborates with) has a band called Scary Pockets... who's most recent release is a Funk cover of your song (I believe in a thing called Love). It's... pretty darn good. Would love to see a reaction!
This song is an absolute masterpiece. Revisited it again today with my son who also loves it. The lyric, "A little dark, white as f**k, I just reflect the sun, you're not starstruck". Funny and beautifully sung and played. Keep up those standards Louis!

Totally agree that Louis is one of the greatest musicians and artists on the planet. He has it all: incredible rhythmic chops, catchy and durable melodies, rich harmony, comical lyrics, hilarious dance moves/videos and a unique wardrobe. Louis is king 👑
Loved this and the bass lines throughout! Not sure if you have listened to Khruangbin or not, but if you have not...please do so! I'd love to see a JHRA video review of anything of theirs!
Hey Justin, I discovered Louis Cole around the same time as Jacob, and I'm also hooked to both! They are apparently friends (there is a YT clip of them jamming together, I think Eleanor Rigby, way back when they were known as jazz musicians)
I'd love to hear JH review Knowers' new album in full. Absolutely love Louis Cole, knower and Clown Core and that's all because of this channel. Well done Justin Hawkins - it's good work you do here.🙂
Louis Cole is amazing!! I think Louis has used my favorite monster of a bassist, Sam Wilkes, on a few things, don't know if he's on this track. Thanks, Justin, for all you do!
Sam’s around for a lot of live stuff but Louis does his own bass work on his records. There’s a little video on YT, search ‘im tight (bass part)’ of Louis playing the isolated bass.
Earth Wind & Fire - In the Stone vibes. Verdine White, Maurice White, Philip Bailey and all those sensational guys. The Emotions performing as support vocalists on Boogie Wonderland. Maybe that was a label - stable dealio. Whatever the haps, the combination of talents produced some jammin' funk grooves and ethereal melodies.
I've definitely listened to this song on repeat for at least a day before, might be my fave Louis Cole song. Definitely check out the new KNOWER album, it's got some banging tunes on it
Justin Hawkins. Not a person I'm acquainted with and I'm not sure how someone can annoy me so much but I absolutely love them as well. You're the Russell Brand of music? That's a compliment, maybe. Enjoyable. I'm still thinking and that's your fault, give me a minute...
Saw him live in a London EarTH club with Knower. He is absolutely OUT THERE incredible. Kind of got a level 42 - Mike Lindup feel to him. Also really like Thundercat atm.
The Struts have a new album dropping. What do you think of the title track, Pretty Vicious? I am a bit perplexed that they have not quite caught on here in the US as one might like. Luke Spiller is a great front man.
Howdy, I've been enjoying your channel for the last few months, and have to say, I love your Bon Scott paintings in the background. Is there a story attached?
Justin, you should check out this amazing album by Squarepusher (2010) - “Shobaleader One: d’Demonstrator”. There’s a thread connecting the two, for sure.
MonoNeon and Thundercat are two bass players you would love, Justin. MonoNeon is in Knower. I love Louis Cole and his sphere of musicians. It’s the humour, tasteful raunchiness, complexity, light touch, normcore, no budget, and non-binary vibe. I like the etherial overlay with the frenetic rhythms. Extremely fun contemporary jazz.
Well Justin , Ive got to bring it up. 6 months ago you said you couldnt wait for the rest of the Greta Van Fleet record. Can we get an update? Your favorites? Least favorites? What they did well or couldve done better? Cheers!
Ah...one of my favorite musicians and songs! Video is just too much, too. Some dance moves to add to my repertoire.....magic thumb, under arm whoopee cushion, finger wiggles. See you on the 🧊.
Louis Cole rocks my world. I might be presumptuous but do you adore Arthur Russell too? If so how PERFECT is his track Arm Around You? BTW I was listening to Don Cherry today whom I understand Louis loves x I love you Justin x big love xx ❤️❤️
Dear Justin, I know many people interested in discovering music they have not been previously exposed to make comparisons declaring likeness of other artists. It's something that is done often. I think it's a common occurrence & everyone absorbs some message of influence when they admire something & not necessarily music.
(con't): but, originality is what actually sells along with excellence, charisma, & talent. And then ultimately it's what "clicks" for the potential fan. It's a registry of the brain that grabs them, an imprint. I can only speak for myself, so I describe the phenomena not just from my brain, but my heart, too. A true friend, a true fan are one in the same & will last forever. It has certainly been the affectation for me & I am certainly glad it is. We are human. Love & kindness should beget the same. So it's very sad when it doesn't. Then you just have to move on when you get pushed away from helping. Spiritually, we must be satisfied with just being a catalytic step & hope for good resolve. Thank you for the music & what I can see around it's facets.
