I was about to start the "one more match!" chants, but I guess it wasnt needed.
Youre gonna have so many come backs from retirement you'll be known as Matt Edgegar.
I support it.
Matthew Edgar- former and future pdc tour card holder.
Wouldn’t go that far but I’m hoping to get to the point I can enjoy a game
@@Edgartvdartsbro yes u will .im currently on a 60 avg but i know im gonna be holding a tour card eventually . And i will see u in a pro tour event
Thanks for this! Tried it out and really works. Darts in hand feel more stable and fixed this way and for me this helps in the release as well! All the best
Great advice, thank you. I've tried it for a couple of days and it's taken me from mid 70's to low 80's and I feel there is so much more to come.
Well played matt, sounds like challenge tour would have been perfect for you this year since you enjoy playing PDC darts so much, but hopefully next year
Positivity makes a world of difference. Keep up the training and it will come back! Always stay positive.
Very glad to hear the new grip has been working for your Sir Matthew! All the best to you my friend, thanks for sharing.
Hi Matt, it was nice to meet both of you on Monday, and thanks for the advice on what to do next. Btw I watched your video in Killarney since, and you can get Irish Cadburys in supermarkets based in the UK. Only in big cities though where they have an Irish section of food.
I have always said never give up the things you love. Well done for figuring out a new way by the grip change. Might take time with the new grip change but you are already seeing results.
Yeah just want to enjoy a few games really
@Edgartvdarts no pressure or saying i am going to do this or that. Just see where it takes you and enjoy the process.
Good on you Matt. Keep it going.
Love watching your channel. Awesome tips for more consistent throw.
Great news to hear matt!
Im hoping to see you at some wdf events here in hungary, ill be there in one at febuary 1st. Keep going!
This is very interesting and also very helpful to me personally i believe because i suffer with arthritis in my joints and my wrist joint and my arm can get sore, heavy and weak at times. So in going to try this change myself to see if it helps me in my throw.
Thank you @Matt.
Really pleased for you Matt, keep enjoying your darts.
Go on Edgar lad love the mission videos glad ur doing ye own thing too, always loved darts but always fall out of love after Christmas this year bought a full set up and been obsessed went from 30 avg to 45-50 with abit of ur tips and changing my style keep up the good work mate love from Liverpool
Still waiting for my first 180 mark my words my newly decorated flat will be getting smashed to bits and my other half will prob send me back to my parents 😢😂
I thought it was just me, I have always thrown with my middle finger and thumb and use my other fingers to stabilise the dart. Looks like a great change for you. I hope the progress continues
Me too.. but mine is even weirder. My dart rests behind my middle finger, only held there with thumb pressure. Hard to describe but unlike any "normal" grip seen on here. Been throwing like that for 30 years. Nobody ever taught be how to throw a dart.
I do too with my ring finger under the point of the dart👍
Absolutely loved our coaching session yesterday, really helped and already seeing benafits. But yeah you was definitely right about it being more tiring i was knackered 😂
I really enjoy your channel Matt. I appreciate your knowledge and experience. You’ve done what I’ve always dreamed of. With that said, since April of last year Ive been away from the tournaments I attended and have had the time to change up some things. I also changed my grip, and weight of my darts. I’m finally scoring higher and playing a lot better than I ever had. I was honestly surprised because I always thought why change what you’re comfortable with. Anyways, thanks again for all the help you give. Many blessings for a prosperous, and happy 2025!
Glad your enjoying it thanks for the lovely message
Lovely YouTubing with the thumb & title combo. May I suggest changing the outline of the 91 to white, so it stands out more. Glad to hear you're enjoying darts again.
awesome insight Matt. wish more players talked about the specifics of their throw but its like everyone is afraid to do it
It's a very personal preference.
Talking about very specific throwing details is useless for the majority of people since everyone throws different and you have to find your own throw.
Just play darts and try different positions and throwing styles.
I'm so pleased for you mate I would love to see you back playing again
Great content again Matt 👍
I watched Rob Cross throw his darts and tried his grip and it seems to work better than the way I did. And the dart is flying straighter and not taking a dip at the dart board.
I just tried this and I hit a 180 and a 171 in 10 minutes which for me is very rare. We could be on to something. Thanks Matt.
I'm always looking for ways to improve my grip and get better scores. Thanks for the tip Matt 👍
I really enjoyed the video.
Immediately after watching I went to the board to give it a try.
Now I have to fix the drywall.
To don't think it's for me.
Cheers
Would love to see you be able to make this a scoring and controllable grip for you, so that you can play some events. All the best with it!
Danke für's Video und die Arbeit dafür. Grüße an alle! 😄
Nice one 👍 it's worth a try.
I too struggle with the wrist. Not sure if that grip will work for me but will give it shot. Like you said, it gives you reason to enjoy the game again that you ❤🎯
great video matt 🙂
That's how I grip my darts. Works pretty well. Hammering in those 7's, 15's, 26's, 41's and 45's. 😅 On the positive side, been playing for a month and already got 5 180 and 1 171.
Total amateur here, but so pleased to see that’s exactly my grip you’ve switched to. How tall are you? I am 6’1”.
I do however find my 4th Finger sometimes on the dart/tip but usually also hovers.
So now I just need to fix every other aspect of my darts game 😂😂😂
I've position my grip forward as well and started getting 180s
Go on then!!
Any advice on when I draw the dart back I keep catching my face? I tried to shorten the drawback but now can’t get enough power and always fall low on the treble. Great vids!
Good grip for people with arthritis or a fused wrist like me
I also Have arthritis in my throwing hand Wrist, Thumb, and knuckles on the fingers. I switched to a variation of Matts new grip today and Avg in my match today was up almost 5 and I was scoring better and grouping tighter and the grip felt great throwing. I just had to get used to the new grip I kept going back to the old grip. good luck with your wrist. CHEERS!!!
Thank god, I thought I was mental using middle finger, can't use pointer finger feels weird. Just good to know someone else throws like this
its funny this just came out, because I was just about fed up and about to quit, and changed my grip from a rear grip to more mid grip and pulling the point in (to keep the dart straight) and ill be darned if it hasnt boosted my average about 10 points
What's funny is the new way you hold the dart is the way I used to throw when I was a teenager. I mean I was crap, lol, but curious that I came by that grip naturally.
Hello Matt I just saw this video last night and took a look at my darts and how I was griping them. And I noticed that I was holding my dart with my thumb across from mu index finger and my 2nd finger resting in where the point meets the barrel and my 3rd finger on the point. I have been using this grip since Covid. I did not throw a dart for almost 2 years over Covid because all of the local leagues I played in were shut down. I am No Pro by any means and should be at a much higher level for the 42 odd years I have been playing this game. Afrer the covid break my game was non existent I could not throw a dart to save my life. it was almost like starting over I was averaging in the 30's The darts just would not come out of my hand properly and I could not figure out why. I managed to get back up to a high 40's Avg. and this last year or so have been slumping back down to about a 41 AVG on Dart Connect. That is all I have to measure my Avg we do not track Avg'es in my leagues. Any way I threw a few darts with a similar style to this new grip of yours. Except I rest the dart on the spot between the pad of my index finger and the 2nd joint on my index finger the 2nd pad if you will. and the my 2nd finger on the side and around the top of the dart a bit. with my Thumb in between my fingers. slightly toward my 2nd finger, and my 3rd finger where the point meets the dart. This gives me a very stabile and supported grip on the dart and moves the dart back 1 finger width and a bit deeper into my hand so not resting on the pads of my finger, more on the space between the joints. With this deeper grip comes More contact with the dart More more stability and less moving parts and muscles that need to not move or move in a seitan way when we throw also removed is the accidental flick of a fingertip and the wrist action that you mentioned. This wrist action was brought to my attention at a tournament by a friend he told me that when I throw a stray dart it always looked like I was bending my wrist more than when I made a good shot. And it makes sense. I think your video reminded me how I gripped my darts before the pandemic when I was throwing a lot better. I think my version of the grip you showed is a slight variation of it, but. I Tried it this afternoon. I had a ladder League Match BO5, BO3 Sets Now like I said my Dart Connect AVG is 41 and it just went up to 41 from 40. But my Avg this afternoon was almost 46. I hit more Ton + shots and had a 3 dart 102 finish and some great 3 dart combos to leave doubles. Feeling good with this grip already in the first match I played. It went to 3 Sets and I lost In the deciding leg because I bobbled my finish and bust a few times and let him take it from me. I can't complain, Fair Play to him, he got the double before I did. But I was happy with my darts and the guy I played was a DartConnect 50 Avg player. I missed too many opportunity's throughout the match. ANNY WAY if you read this far THANK YOU SO MUCH MATT!! For reminding me how I Gripped my Darts before The Pandemic. It was so comfortable throwing with this grip again and my grouping was tighter I hit the T5 & T1 about 60 timed in this match. But nice and close to the 60 How do you adjust for the width of a wire away?? I have to assume it is just reload and try again. Every time I try to adjust left right or up and down for a wire width It goes way to far past what I wanted. Thanks again Matt. sorry for my rambling. If you want I can send you a picture of my Grip.
CHEERS!! & SHOOT E"m STRAIT!!!
Would love to see you back on tour
All the best prime time
I have a feeling there is an undertaker style last ride documentary coming
Mattew Edgar pleas can you help me to find your interview at Modus about Premier league and Nathan Aspinall pick? I can not find it anymore. Thank you
Not only is this new grip good for the averages, but the best part is it sounds like it might help get rid of the ongoing injury issue you have, I feel like with no injury your confidence will be high which would lead to good performances. Please give a Modus Group B or C a go if you can as I feel like that would be a great opportunity for you to test it at a good level
I tried your new grip. I had to stop as I would need sponsorship from Pollyfilla. All the best going forward Matt.
Enjoy it mate thats the main thing
I heard you use the term “Front 9 & Back 9”. As a golfer I am familiar with those but what do they reference in Darts?
From context, front 9 = scoring, back 9 = finishing/checkout
So, from 170 down would be considered the back 9? Makes sense! 😊
i always hold my dart with midfinger and thump since day one i started playing darts
When you say you don’t want to angle the dart down for your height what does that mean? I’m 6’4 should I angle the dart up or down?
hopefully on the super series soon then Matt
Tried it and I can't get a very good grip on with my middle finger and my thumb. It's not stable for me.
Sorry I couldn’t give you a better game, well played mate 👏 94 Avg.
Are you still doing coaching? Ive emailed you through the website a few times no response
Yes I am although I don’t have a website so not sure what your messaging on. If you drop me a pm on socials I’ll be able to get back to you
Hope you get to a couple of wdf events
Looks a lot like how I’m throwing now. But not anywhere near 80s or 90s . More like 50s to 60s . But not in a team just play on DartCounter so it doesn’t count anyway. Only been playing 8 months. I really need to find the confidence to play in a league. I’m 54 years old now it’s not like I can do anything else like football or rugby anymore 😂
Hmpf... i have a big Problem, I play with right hand and i don't have middle finger 😕
Are you doing modus now 🎉
Maybe do a group b some point
First time hearing you hit a 170 finish to beat Gary Anderson, fair play man, how come you never mentioned that before?
Bacon Slicer? 🙏🤣
I really hope this change has a positive impact and restores your love of playing.
Too much to offer not to be playing
You’ve spent too much time with Danny Baggish 😂 are you a commentator or a player?
I’m a commentator 100% but be nice if I could enjoy a few games here and there
I hope the skinny lad is eating!
He loves eating
The PDC needs Matt Edgar!
Currently going through a big grip change, mainly because my old grip ended up being incredibly uncomfortable and my pink ends up cramping. Trying a new barrel shape and a four finger grip to find some comfort.
Magic Matt we would all love to seem you back competing 🎯1️⃣7️⃣0️⃣
