no these days how many entry level gas company workers would go through all that trouble to be sure they are ok, bet most would just knock and leave if no answer . he went the extra mile here that guy is a hero
Ya but the man should have skipped the gas company entirely & just gone straight to calling 911. It would have saved a lot of time, as emergency personnel were eventually dispatched anyway.
Ryan Pue they are now-automated recordings advise callers to dial 911. As well, the dispatchers also are instructed to tell residents to evacuate, and to call 911. The dispatcher will also call 911.

In real life, they called the gas company; they didn't just call the gas company in the reenactment because somebody "added smell" to a gas that I doubt they filled the house with considering they can just act and the camera knows no difference. She was probably becoming delirious and having phantosmia due to the CO. The whole point of having a reenactment is to tell the story as accurately as possible, they're not going to completely change how it happened.
I think nowadays if you call the gas company and tell them you are violently ill and can smell gas, I'm pretty sure they tell you to get out of the house and call 911...

She was a outspoken opponent of racism and prejudice and who spoke out for tolerance and kindness and respect for everyone no matter what.
I wonder if the firefighters saw Magda’s tattoo and realized that she was a Holocaust survivor? If so I think they probably wouldn’t be surprised. Skokie which is where the incident took place not only has a large population of Jewish residents but also a sizeable porpotion of those Jewish residents were themselves Holocaust survivors.

Their furnace burned gas or oil, it just wasn't burning it completely which was producing carbon monoxide along with other byproducts of combustion that have odor and taste.

Moral of the story: gas company employees should be allowed to enter a residence where they find CO levels outside the door at dangerous levels.

I guess gas companies only care about their money, instead of their well being. Or they're assuming the customers knew better than to stay in there.

Correct, the automated recording says it, the dispatcher says it, and the dispatcher will also call 911 themselves.
