    Thanks for watching again! Just a side comment: I’m using USD as well as Riel and I haven’t had a problem with paying with any of them. Even smaller notes of USD has sometimes a mark of is a bit damaged, no worries (big notes are different). I find it at some place also a bit cheaper if I pay in USD.
    Please keep the conversation going 😊

      Just pointing out, Battambang is no longer the second biggest city. Siem Reap has taken that role for awhile now.

      @@Chai_Travelit was considered second city for its size and population. It was second most populous and second largest after PP. That was my understanding as a Khmer. I could be wrong though.

      @@SoYappy hmmm 🤔 I’m actually wondering now what the story is. Hopefully someone can add something to this conversation. :) anyway it’s a great place with lovely people and stunning architecture surrounding with beautiful rice fields 😍 I’d love to come back at some stage :)

    I lived there for a few months. I will say that the people are the friendliest in Cambodia, even more friendlier than Siem Reap, Phnom Penh has a little bit of that cut throat competition and the mannerisms that come with that. Battambang has a few tourist spots but yes mostly a family orientated city with real sense of community and a slow pace of life. Attractions are to be found on your own, rent a scooter and head south towards the Pailin region, there begins the jungle/mountainous region of Cambodia. Battambang suits the intrepid tourist who makes their own schedule. The rundown image can be shifted to present a charm and with that a more agrarian down to earth charm which is lacking in more industrious countries, a lot of people are seeking that in our ever industrializing world.

    One more thing you can do in Battambang is to take a boat ride down the river to the Tonle Sap and on to Siem Reap (or Phnom Penh).
    The regular tourist circuit is road based. The boat trip is inexpensive, it is a local public transport service, and worth taking if you have unlimited time and a flexible itinerary. All travel is best with a flexible itinerary.
    I've always really liked going to Battambang over the years. It is generally quiet, visually appealing, safe, you can take a walk on the wild side if that's your want, very friendly and the cost to be there is reasonable. Locals can live comfortably there.
    Some visitors with an interest in industrial archeology would really like the railway yards. It's a working "museum".
    The bamboo train is pretty lame nowadays...more of a picnic attraction. It was better when the highway was unsealed, it was really public transport and not just a selfie prop.
    It's nice to relax in Battambang, even when you're working.
    Visit before it's ruined by over tourism

      Nobody likes a dusty road smack in the middle of the city, except for you. Dusty roads might be more fitting in the countryside or Wild West towns in the 1800s, that's for sure. Cambodia is now backed by China. China came to Cambodia to build casinos and real estate, but they couldn't care less about Cambodia's infrastructure. They come and go due to economic downturns, leaving behind half-built skyscrapers and dusty roads that turn Cambodia into ghost towns.

    I'd like to travel in cambodia as filipino. For thier old historical buildings like anchor wat and try their delicious foods. But when it comes to nature, beaches, mountains, sand dunes atv, volcanoes, waterfalls, secluded beach places for campings, hot springs, cold springs, caves, surfing, fishing, modern cities, old cities, what ever you like. If ever your backpacking to south east asia. Don't skip the philippines, malaysia and indonesia. There is much to discover. Thailanda and cambodia, nah.. Over explored by people from the west.

    • @Chai_Travel
      @Chai_Travel  18 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Especially for budget backpackers the Philippines is a little bit out of the way and expensive to travel around. That’s why mainland of SE Asia is more popular :) the Philippine beaches are beautiful, some of the best beaches in the world. Cambodia has them too 😍

    I can say that it will be easy to walk around in the city like in the Siem Reap within the next 2 - 3 years from now. The road is under construction the same as Siem Reap back in 2021. The hotel and the shop will not have many options to choose. But the food is good and cheap (street stalls).

Modern and very prosperious country before the Massecure that politically involved and few neighbors counties has been involved. Frankly said Cambodia it’s economically on the rise again even my relative from North America are moving back and as for retirement including myself praying for an earlier retirement anytime soon.
