While controversial, this decision ultimately ended the deadliest war in human history, saving countless lives and fulfilling the duty of U.S. leadership to win the war. Therefore, I define a good individual as someone who considers both perspectives in their actions. Now, addressing the question: Does ethics help us become good individuals? I say yes. Ethics provides knowledge that guides us in choosing the right path and making decisions based on both deontological and utilitarian principles. It helps us understand why we make certain decisions and encourages us to act in ways that benefit others and ourselves. In this way, ethics plays a crucial role in shaping us into good individuals.
Ethical values (i.e. honesty, trustworthiness, responsibility) help guide us along a pathway to deal more effectively with ethical dilemmas by eliminating those behaviors that do not conform to our sense of right and wrong - our best rational interests - without sacrificing others
Q- Can ethics help create good individuals? Ans - Before answering that, we need to define what 'Good' is? As I believe in moral subjectivism, there can't be an objective definition of Good. Now, let me answer this question with an example. If I believe that eating animals is not good as it causes harm to animals & every specie has a right to live according to me, then I ought to/ should not eat animals. In that particular scenario, I turn out to be a good individual as I did not choose the bad/wrong option. Hence, ethics can help create good individuals.
