    in canada, most of the buttermilk where i live is 1% or 2% fat, and it's often very watery/runny like regular milk would be. i'm so envious of anyone who can access really thick (higher quality) buttermilk! and finding buttermilk made outside of canada is very rare (and would be insanely expensive)

    • @chartartmander7346
      @chartartmander7346 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      You can make buttermilk easily at home! Just use whole milk and white vinegar (I'd suggest looking up a recipe for quantities). The thicker buttermilk might be made with whipping cream instead or something like half and half. I'm not sure that the thickness comes from the quality of the ingredients. Could be wrong, though!

    • @mattymattffs

    • @Lucysmom26
      @Lucysmom26 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah wtf was up with that thick-ass American buttermilk? It's def thinner but up here but thicker (a little) than regular milk. When I buy it I just buy whatever's at the grocery store, standard brand, no fancy stuff. The other guy is right, though, traditionally buttermilk is what's left over after making butter, which is super runny and thin. Since I've never had the 'real' stuff I don't know if something about the process thickens it up or not. Could just be Americans being extra and adding thickening agents?

    • @justjeni83

You don't even have to use actual cream cheese to it, but quark, whipped cream and some gelatine to make it stable. (and lime, strawberries etc. for flawor). If you can find quark, or other low-fat fermented milk product, try it out!

    I love cereal, so I wonder where this will go.
    You could order your cereal from other countries, so the Red-40 and Yellow-5 don't pose a risk to you. We have those Toast Crunches as Cini-Minis in Germany, pretty sure they are the same product.
    The first recipe actually looks awesome, but where can I get Hawaiian rolls...
    We also have something called "Arme Ritter" (poor knights) in Germany that is similar. It is eaten with cherries.
    I recently ate some Kölln Haferflocken (oatmeal) that expired in 2016. Somehow they didn't kill me, but they were sealed airtight in a dark cupboard xD
    I am gonna make a shot in the dark by saying that the acidity in the Buttermilk is probably what softens up the chicken.
    You can replace the "bane of your existence" with german Quark if you want. That would make a german Käsekuchen (literally cheese cake)

    They genuinely are somewhere between a guideline and an attempt to make more money. If you look, even bottled water has an expiration date. These companies were pushed by the FDA to have an expiration date...and, from there, they decided to set arbitrary dates in order to push ppl like you to feel as though you need to rebuy a given product.
    You do not. 🤗
