Do you guys feel Lexus did enough changes to the IS? If only the rumored IS500 with the 3.5TT V6 from the LS had made it under the hood at launch, it would have dramatically helped this car feel much more new.
We’ve had several IS in our family and this update is a let down. But that’s typical of Lexus as they don’t stray too far from what works. But I am disappointed with the powertrain and want an ISF.
I agree with your assessment in general, but believe actual Lexus buyers will be quite happy with the updates. I say this as my wife is on her third Is (2020), and can say she has loves the appearance of sportiness combined with unbeatable quality and old fashioned touches (cd player, clock, etc).
I think the 350 is a great used car, but not sure I’d ever get a new one. 50K is a bit too much for an outdated interior and powertrain. But it does appear that you’ll be able to drive this years longer than anything from the Germans. I think the exterior updates look pretty damn good.
I think it looks gorgeous and stunning. I don't mind that the interior and exterior haven't changed much. If it ain't broke, no need to fix. I am disappointed Lexus didn't beef up the V6 engine or offered a turbo or V8 option.
It’s called upgrading. “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” doesn’t even apply here. It’s about keeping up with competitors which Lexus has not in terms of tech and design especially inside. With the “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” cars wouldn’t have any generations.
@@johnhancock6374 Exactly. So many people on here think that the whole "if it ain't broke" is the only thing a car needs. This is supposed to be a luxury car, with high quality materials, updated mechanics and technology, and decent performance. Of course reliability is a huge plus, but the Germans are still doing extremely well here. I don't know why Japanese auto makers do that thing where they neglect their luxury division and just update their mainstream offerings. A Toyota should not be faster, more luxurious, or have more features than a Lexus. Same thing for Honda/Acura and Nissan/Infiniti. It just canabalizes sales.
For people who actually buy their cars and not lease we want reliability. Longevity is what is luxurious to us. Not gimmicky tech that will be obsolete after 2 yrs. Good on lexus for keeping a good thing going. And not treating their cars as a smart phone to be disposed of after 3 yrs (i.e. germans & tesla)
Would happily take the basic CD player and a high quality interior over the latest tech any day. I'd prefer to keep the car for 300k miles than purchase a new one more often. I bought my Lexus for reliability and comfort.
Yeah, it might not be that important pragmatically speaking, but it's that attention to detail that separate premium vehicles from what Sofyan calls "poverty-spec". Lexus really half-assed this self-proclaimed "all new IS" and it shows in those small details.
themobbkillas i never said it was bad. i actually like every aspect of this car in fact it’s my favourite lexus car after IS F and RC F. i just said that they could charge less so more people can afford it.
@@zhila5958 far more important than light bulbs are reliability of engine and any components that will keep it running. you fanboys thinks leather and carbon fibers are the ones that will keep the price up. smh
Scotty is right about non-turbo engines: they last longer because of less internal pressure; thus, a normally-aspirated engine will outlast most turbo-charged engines. And that's what Sofyan needs to understand: Lexus owners like cars that they don't have to worry about when it comes to reliability. If I was going to pay a lot for a sports sedan, I'd go with a Lexus over any BMW or Benz or Audi: those European cars will spend a lot of time at the dealerships for costly repairs while the Lexus owners will simply wave as they drive by.
I completely agree. Compared to its BMW and Mercedes class rivals, this is definitely the best looking. Mercedes always makes ugly cars in my opinion, and the new M3 looks like crap. The IS isn't going to top them in performance, but I'm not necessarily concerned with that. I like reliability and style. The 311hp is just enough power for me.
I have a 2020 is350 rwd it has an 8 speed also it’s the same back seat and front seats. The mirrors are newer and much larger... also the rims look great love the touchscreen wish there was wireless charging. You can’t go wrong with Toyota reliability and smoothness this thing will go for 300k with no hiccups completely... Toyota played it really safe..
I've seen some people having issues with their Toyotas right after the warranty was expired. 2020 Toyota isn't reliable as 2000 Toyotas imo. They went too far saving cost here and there.
They’ve been using this engine since the 2006 IS350, yes it’s proven to be extremely reliable and it’s not slow, but they need to get a more powerful engine to keep up with the competition, I’m surprised the twin turbo v6 from the LS hasn’t trickled down.
Idk man this thing is pretty slow. A i4 3 series is the same or faster the way bmw underrates 0-60, it's quite a bit cheaper, and gets way better mpgs. An M340i would just destroy this. And yeah if you're worried about reliability go with Lexus but for a real sports car this will never be on my list with this engine.
@@Shane-h4uu agreed. Life’s too short to want to hang onto one car for a long ass time. The whole long term reliability thing only matters to those owners who plans to drive their cars til the wheels fall off or for the 2nd owner and on..
I mentioned this as a comment but I will reply here: They can't just stuff engines from different models. The LS is based on a different architecture and that engine simply won't work with the IS.
Yes they should’ve made the rear turn signals led but honestly if someone is going to buy this car they can just order some Led amber bulbs from Amazon
I used to own 2014, now i own this too, bring on the competition and i paid only 46k. It’s the best looking car out there right now in my opinion. It doesn’t matter what’s you said about this IS 350 I still love it 100% from jp. Flawless
Lexus will always be the standard. No other manufacturer can combine style, luxury, reliability or adequate performance. I choose a car that’ll last 10-20-30 years (you know, responsible financial decisions and all …)
It looks great! Probably Lexus' best implementation of the spindle grille on a sedan. It's a shame the IS350 F-sport is underpowered vs the competition (eg. Acura TLX Type S, BMW M340i, Mercedes C43 AMG, Audi S4, Q50 Redsport). It desperately needs that twin-turbo V6 from the LS500.
@@TheBreakfastLover I’m comparing v6 to v6. I know the accord is quicker but it’s not by much vs the v6 Camry. It ranges on the accord from 5.5-5.7 seconds
I really wish you would've gotten the RWD version to review. I'm a big fan of this car as a less gimmicky, more old school luxury sport sedan that's reliable. If they offered the 2UR-GSE V8 or the TT V6 in a high performance model, I'd totally look at that as my next car. Honestly, I still dig the IS350 F-Sport RWD.
LeakoLotad Thank you!!! Why do all these reviewers keep doing the AWD one, when it's well documented that the RWD IS350 F-Sport is the better performer!?!
here's some fun info. The Lexus LX is the same SUV underneath, since 2008. Only did a face lift and interior updates since. edit: just remembered Nissan 370z. Same car since 2009 or so.
There is a hairy intersection nearby, with no traffic signals, that I have to navigate everyday during rush hour traffic. Three roads converge on the twisting highway, from odd angles, and produce several blind spots. High attention and quick reactions are required to cross and merge with traffic safely. My 2010 Acura TL SHAWD has proven to be proficient in responding immediately to my time critical control inputs, with no turbo lag or contradicting safety systems delaying brisk forward movement. This daily event is the reason why I appreciate tenacious grip and instantaneous thrust in all weather conditions. As well, I require a comfortable cabin, with pleasant exterior styling, and remarkable reliability. I don't live for the race track or go over 90mph for that matter, but I do like punch and composed handling when I need to push it. Given the fact that IS350 AWD is NOT a turbo, that is has the highly desirable dual stage fuel injection system, produces very respectable torque and horsepower numbers, I'd say it's a real contender as a replacement vehicle.
@L I Agree I bought my L certified 2017 GS-F V8 (with only 3,000 miles) a year ago and only paid $58K. Deal of the century! The new MSRP was $87K. Yowzir !
No they don’t. Completely different lighting assembly. Also the Avalon does not light up completely it’s not a true LED single unit like this on the Lexus.
IKR, I drove next to a Highlander last week and thought it was an RX 350. Lexus and Toyota’s design language is no longer distinct enough for me to consider it advantageous to drive a Lexus over Toyota so my guess is that: Toyota is planning on taking most of its current models up market incorporating them into the Lexus lineup or their phasing out certain Lexus vehicles. Either way, the newest IS appears to be a carryover and for lack of a better term, a dam Scam. Lexus switched a few lines and bent a few panels for it to appear redesigned but I feel like I just stepped back into 2014 after seeing the interior. I understand the “if it ain’t broke, then don’t fix it mentality” from a financial standpoint but Lexus has always been ahead of its contemporaries in both design and reliability. Re-releasing a car can spell disaster in the minds of their customer base. My fear is that brand loyalist will think “If it wasn’t broke, then why’d you have to go and break it?”
Well, a positive is that if you’re something looking at something like a new 330i, the IS350 F Sport is a good alternative since it’s starting price is close at mid 40k, but offers more power.....
I've always loved the IS. It's a very dear car for me. It's one of the cars from my high school years that all my friends wanted! Go Lexus, tried and true!
That’s interesting... I’ve just reviewed the new IS, well all 3 of them and here in Australia the F Sport comes standard with 19” wheels. As similar as they are to the previous gen, the ride and quality and overall sportiness has definitely taken a step above and can do a lot more in the corners and really hold gears whereas before it was all over the place! Love it
I’m more of a Honda/Acura guy, but I honestly like what Lexus offered with the IS. In a world full of overstyled and complicated interior designs, it keeps things familiar. I do understand, however, why people might not be able to justify spending so much money on an outdated design.
I want you guys to think about this. This car is 56k...... That is the price of a blue Tesla model 3 performance...... That's absolutely hilarious to know what you cna get for that money
I'll agree with you that at 56k this car is a tough sell. But you have to remember that if a car like the Model 3 had the same build quality as this Lexus, it would cost significantly more. I see Lexus all the time that are 10-15 years old and still look new. The same can not be said about it's competitors. This car would be excellent with a small v8 under the hood.
@@andrewmeehan6151 so I knwo everyone wants to talk build quality but here me out. Tesla will fix ANYTHING that is wrong if you have anything wrong with your model 3 without question free of charge. And for a long while as well. I drove a model 3 and didn't get what all the complaints were about with build quality it felt just as nice as my infiniti q60 Redsport did and my bmw 335 before that did which both are above lexus int he build quality department. I think that this car really is, as it always has been, for the guys who don't want issues long term with there car and don't trust the Germans even though they've gotten much better now. The model 3 has this beat with an infinite mile warranty for 8 years on your drive train. While lexus is relaible especially this 3.5.its seriously behind on tech, power, handling etc etc. I can't see anyway to really justify it in today's market other than your scared to buy another brand really!
@@IReahpZz For me, the Model 3 hasn't been around long enough to see how they hold up long term, but from what I've seen they have a lot of issues (again I've never driven one, but i have seen them up close). I think people that want a Tesla already have their mind made up, so the IS really competes against the Germans and obviously the Genesis G70. I won't argue that the German brands have this beat in performance and tech, but if I was in the market for one of these cars the out of warranty maintenance and repairs would scare me away. This is a shame because I think the c class/e class are some of the best looking cars around.
@@andrewmeehan6151 I mean the genesis isn't a fair comparison. My current dialy is a Kia stinger and with 3 mods I'm faster than the Lc500, isf rcf etc etc. Most Tesla buyers with the model 3 are first timers and again there coming from luxury cars not mainstream vehicles. And people who own them pretty much always want to keep them. Again personally it doesn't matter if they have issues ( genuinely minor 95% of the time) tesla had you covered. Hell they send people to you to fix the car and if it can't get done you have an identical or better loaner delivered to you! If you buy a lexus you want quiet. No beating the model 3 at that either. I love my gas cars but the M3 is really hard to argue with in this class of vehicle right now
that's why Lexus didn't bother investing on a new platform for this model, and essentially recycled the ancient interior and powertrains. It shows they don't have much confidence in the IS. They previously went this route for the GS before they discontinued it (RIP). Rumor is that the next IS might be a re-badged Mazda6, similar to the Toyota 86 & Subaru BRZ, or Supra & Z4. Acura, on the other hand, invested millions in R&D for the TLX's all-new chassis, bodywork production, and V6 turbo. That speaks for itself.
@@TheBreakfastLover i see what you mean but in my opinion toyota is just to cheap to invest in these cars. Look at the land cruiser, lx570, sequioa and the gx. All those suvs are basically the same as their 2015 models, barely updated. They didnt even want bother to spend money and invest to make a new engine and platform for the supra and instead of refreshing the land cruiser and giving it a new engine to fix its horrible gas mileage they are going to discontinue it. All toyota cars about is the camry, corolla, rav4 and the highlander.
@Chezzyperson i dont see them getting rid of the RC because its the only two door car for lexus besides the LC. I wouldnt mind them getting rid of it but they would have to have a IS model with a V8 or even a two version. The NX needs the boot honestly
Thats because there are Toyota " purists " out there that keep buying the vehicles just for the name. And that happens a lot on everything. People buying/leasing/financing just because of the brand or someone told them to.
Beautiful car and I do love mine…now imagine this vehicle with panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, F Sport Stamped front seats, power rear view mirrors, HUD, Mark Levinson audio/Triple LED Headlights on all models, new infotainment (RX)….that would be a Lexurious launch for the IS 500/350 in 2022!
i think they NAILED IT with the design inside and out. but if i were in charge of it i would’ve made it what everyone wants. i would’ve put the new IS on the same platform as the LS and LC, i would then get rid of the 2.0T and the de-tuned V6 and make the 350’s V6 the base motor. i then would bring back the IS-F and offer it with the 5.0L V8 AND the twin turbo V6 from the LS and put the 10 Speed Auto in both engines. Lexus can you hire me now?
The reason they did not put it on the plattform of the LS is because lexus and mazda develop a new rwd plattform together due in 2022/2023 on which the next is is supposed to ride on aswell. That‘s why they extended the live of this generation
I used to be on the "lexus is far behind BMW and Benz" band wagon but now I've learned it's more about a less complex no nonsense sports sedan. No turbos that'll crap out after 100k miles. A car that'll give u less problems than the German brands. Might not be as exciting but it'll last 🤷♂️. It's like having a loving wife versus a money hungry side piece 😆.
The minuses you list are actually plusses for this car in my mind. If you are going to lease and turn it back in in 3-4 years, get something else for sure. If you plan on buying after the lease or buying outright to keep for 8-10+ years, this is by far the best choice vs the direct competition. Sure more power and a newer trans (I'd get RWD so that isn't an issue) would have been nice, but they fixed the worst part (infotainment is now touch) and upgraded the looks to best in class imo. So for me they did enough, but just barely.😊
I test drove this yesterday. It felt so much smaller than it looked and it was so refined and smooth that I thought it was driving an avalon or something.
@@biglee13m lossless sound, meaning it isn't compressed, like MP3 files. CDs and vinyl albums will always deliver the best sound quality, until someone delivers digital music files that are not compressed.

But when you listen to the same track on vinyl or compact disc through a proper sound system, and not your smartphone, you will understand.
I understand the complaints about the power however I own a GS and the power is enough for everyday driving and it kicks in when you need it to. In other words power is adequate. You're not racing this car on a track everyday and if you want to drive it like a knucklehead you will be pulled over by the cops, so whats the point. I think the car looks good and power wise is ok.
Really wished they would've fully redesigned this thing. The under pinnings are based on a 7 year old car.. Not sure how you stay relevant with the 3 series by doing that
If the 2021 Is350 had the IS500 TTV6 motor + the 6 pot orange brembo brakes from the GSF + the F Performance Seats from the GSF this thing would be one heck of a competitive sedan and sell like hot cakes.
I have a 2017 IS F sport... used to own 2 BMW 3-Series (2004 and 2008) and a 2015 Mercedes C300... this car is the only one I feel confident in flooring the accelerator and knowing it won’t break!
The interior looks really really dated. How do you refresh an already really old platform? Answer: the focus is on SUVs, so why invest billions on a car.
I love how the body has so much more depth, especially in the rear arches. Looks sexy AF. Honestly, the 350 RWD is plenty (if you can afford those 10,000 mile max tires) for 99% of people. Love the way the RWD lexus's drive, very emotional experience without unrully power. 99% of people would crash in a car with 300+hp when doing some spirited driving.
Lexus knows its customers, if you want a European or American luxury car that is fine, but don't expect them to last or have the resale value of this car. If your buying (as opposed to leasing) there are few options that are better than this. From what I've seen, smaller turbo-charged engines do offer more performance, but it comes at the cost of longevity. Car reviewers don't have to deal with the expensive repairs that come with owning a European luxury car past its warranty period.
Acura and Genesis are solid products, its just with turbos you can't really expect 200,000+ out of them. It's all about what your priority is, if you want performance, I'm sure the cars you mentioned will be better options. But for long-term reliability, i'll stick with Lexus.
@Chezzyperson Thats actually what I'm referring to. To be fair the IS is the one exception in terms of customer satisfaction, but i chalk that up to older folks getting it because it is a Lexus, only to find out it is sporty and rides like a sportscar. I've never been one to want the "newest" thing. If they have a powertrain that works and isn't underpowered thats good enough for me.
Its definitely a nice car, but not a car you should purchase brand new. Either lease it or buy it used two years later for 60% of the price. The interior is basically the same it was since it released back in 2014?
The IS350 IMO is a timeless car, and I am so thankful that they have not changed too much about it. I hate forced induction, it feels fake, sounds terrible and eats into reliability so I'm glad they have resisted. So here is why hundreds of thousands like me love the IS350 and continue to buy them...you can buy them used, they are reliable, and you can upgrade them for cheap. I currently have a 2nd Gen 2010 IS350 Sport, for under $2K I upgraded to F-Sport Sway bars, upgraded the LCA bushings to RC-F LCA bushings, F-Sport Intake, changed the stock Steering ECU to an ISF eps ecu, installed an ISF Steering damper, and I am in the process of upgrading the infotainment system to support Android Auto/Apple Carplay by installing a GROM VLINE VL2. You can see my build here if interested: www.clublexus.com/forums/build-threads/954624-2010-is350-sport-build-thread.html The IS350 has plenty of power, what the heck do you need 500 whp for? Most people don't even use a fraction of what it currently has. Need more? For $500 just buy the RR Racing tune, it will raise the redline to 7200 RPM and give you 20 more WHP, which most will never use anyway. BTW, the IS350 will eat a Toyota Camry V6 for breakfast. The gearing and the throttle response on the Camry is tuned for comfort. Throttle house races a Camry TRD against an Accord 2.0T and the Accord beats it pretty bad off the line. My IS350 has beaten several Accord 2.0T as well as Accord Sport V6's, so that statement about the Camry having almost as much power has no meaning. It's about gearing and tuning, not power
Yeah, because that's what matters when you're going for a performance car - that it costs less to maintain than the Germans and has a higher resale value. Performance and how it makes you feel be damned. No wonder this car is shit.
I am glad you reviewed this car, especially the F Sport model with the blue exterior. As always, you do a great job with your reviews. It seems like the new Acura TLX is a better value for the money with a more modern looking interior and more technology, such as wireless charging, which is still lacking in this car. The next car review I am looking forward to is the 2021 Arteon, which has not yet been released. I know it will be slightly underpowered, but has a lot of technology and a very modern looking interior.
It looks great but Lexus should have stepped up the refresh a little more. The rear indicators should have been LEDs and the engine power needs an increase across the board. I do like that Lexus offers N/A power plants in its line ups but I don’t know how much more power they could ring out of the V6
Lexus is for people that enjoy nice things that also LAST. If Lexus keeps manufacturing in Japan and keeps pushing a super high-quality product, I will be a buyer for life.
They keep the CD player because lossless audio (non-compressed files) makes a huge difference in terms of sound quality even with your higher-end systems like mark Levinson, bowers and Wilkins etc..
@Anna Carson Nope, check out the following: www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-audio-compression-works-and-can-you-really-tell-the-difference/ www.tomsguide.com/us/what-are-audio-codecs,review-4469.html www.adobe.com/creativecloud/video/discover/best-audio-format.html Also, many Porsche, BMW, Volvo, and even Mercedes models have CD Players still as standard and a few more have it as options only with the highest sound packages...
I mean they are probably going to drive way different, this would still handle way better no matter how much trickery they use the TLX is still fwd based and when driven to the core, you're gonna notice that but this is my personal opinion
This car will be an amazing lease deal in a few months. The lack of innovation plus any major interior/exterior design change means this car will mainly attract loyal customers, not new ones. Honestly very disappointed in Lexus, they hold a lot of responsibility being the top Japanese luxury brand and are seriously letting down their current and future customer base.
WOW! That engine sound! I will be HAPPY to buy this car with front drive and 8 speed auto. I have an ES330 with 300,000 miles and NO issues. Still runs like new. Want a similar BMW or Mercedes? You better find a better paying job to pay for parts, service and repair...
I like the fact that Toyota left the tried and true 3.5v6 in there. Would get the RWD only with the 8sp auto. I love this car..Looks amazing. Considering getting one.
I see the similarities. Also Apple doesn’t do anything until they’re sure it’s reliable just like Lexus. BMW is like Samsung, always putting the newest stuff.
I personally dig it, the bulbs can be changed via after market... not a deal breaker. This refresh is nice. The Japanese are always conservative compared to their counterparts.. it just works.
A turbocharged engine would’ve made this thing a real beast. Looks beautiful, but it really should have more oomph under the hood to match. Think I’ll hold on to my Q50 Red Sport just a little longer....
love this IS350, exterior is amazing. even the interior is great. if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. i would definitely get the rear wheel drive FSport. looking to get a low mileage one in 4 years when i retire.
Adding more safety Intuitive Parking Assist with Auto Braking, Rear Cross-Traffic Braking (RCTB) and Rear Pedestrian Detection, if you're into that sort of thing.
Don't forget, the IS has a V8 it's used in the past including on the RC. I'm sure Lexus reserved the IS 500 for it which would make sense. That engine with 471 HP will level competition especially with the RC competition edition hitting 0-60 in 3.9 sec. It makes sense with the economy not to produce this car right now.
Maybe it's my changing sensibilities as I get older but I find this sports sedan very appealing. I think the cars basic architecture to be tried and tested. That fact combined with Lexus' reputation for build quality is compelling. I've always liked the size and proportions as well. A reliable and adequately powered NA V6 is always pleasant to drive. Nice review.
These are my thoughts as well. I'm getting to the age now where specs superiority over my bros is a non-factor. I now buy cars for myself and my needs, not what others think or don't think.
I feel like the older IS looks better overall. I have a 2014 gs350 f sport and am a big fan of how my display screen is so far away. Yes it's not touch screen but it has a more spacious/luxury feel to me. I had my friend jump in who drives an Audi S5 and really enjoyed that as well. Very sad to see Lexus not keeping up with the competition
The Lexus IS350 competes with the Benz c300, and Audi A4 or whatever, it’s the quickest out of both it doesn’t compete with the S5 and m340i, q50 redsport yet.
@Chezzyperson the rx, nx and LX, are all getting replaced in a matter of years there's an upcoming LQ, and Lexus has teased an ISF, so they definitely have new things coming plus the just trademarked the TX nameplate
@Chezzyperson they are only discontinuing the IS and RC in the UK, and I don't understand what you mean by after overhauls it is false😂, if u watched the IS reveal video they kept talking about an ISF and the presenter said when u make a new one let me be the first to drive it
The first generation Lexus IS300 with the yellow fog lights (fog mod baby!!! 😉) was the best one. After that, they all turned into sporty Camrys. Thank God they’re still reliable though, that’s a HUGE deal. It doesn’t seem like it is because Lexus gets outclassed by all other luxury brands but damn it when something goes wrong on your daily driver German car it’s fucking annoying as hell. I still love Lexus/Toyota. Great engines, great transmissions. More boring but you know you’ll make it to your destination every time.
To my dear people in the comment section stop complaining about a car that you never bought in the first place everybody wants a SUV or crossover people have moved away from premium luxury compact cars so why would Lexus Toyota spend millions on a new platform new motor or even throwing the three and a half liter twin turbo into this car now. they might do it for the is 500 but I think this works just fine for what it offers ... The crossover craze keeps picking up steam you gonna see more subcompact sedans either get heavy refreshes or discontinued all together ... (Rip lexus gs) ... Great review as always
Toyota has a new platform on their cars already. The TNGA Toyota has more vehicles on that platform than Lexus does. Also the new Mirai coming soon could replace the GS entirely since it’s going RWD based off the LS500 platform
@@naveenthemachine you still got a design a whole new car off that new platform and I don't think they wanted to go through the trouble of doing so because of low sales.... And who knows we may get a all new Lexus IS eventually...
I can absolutely comment on vehicles that are comparable to my current car, especially why I don't buy them. I didn't buy the Lexus because they nickel-and-dime you to death with every little upgrade and it's impossible to find one how you like without ordering it ($$$). Most other cars in this class you can just find one on the lot and save a ton of time and money. Lexus dealers always seem to include useless stuff bunded with their cars and suddenly they're 5k over sticker. I prefer Audi because they have trim lines and more standard features but still let you get options. That way you don't have to worry about if *this particular vehicle* has LED headlights.
Do you guys feel Lexus did enough changes to the IS? If only the rumored IS500 with the 3.5TT V6 from the LS had made it under the hood at launch, it would have dramatically helped this car feel much more new.
I feel like this is equal to a Honda Accord sport 2.0t. I’d rather get one of those and save a bunch of money : )
We’ve had several IS in our family and this update is a let down. But that’s typical of Lexus as they don’t stray too far from what works. But I am disappointed with the powertrain and want an ISF.
They need to bring back the gs.. this car is too small..
I agree with your assessment in general, but believe actual Lexus buyers will be quite happy with the updates. I say this as my wife is on her third Is (2020), and can say she has loves the appearance of sportiness combined with unbeatable quality and old fashioned touches (cd player, clock, etc).

@@LimiitedChans dude yeah it needs more power, getting matched on the highway by a effin camry despite paying 10k+ more. It’s embarrassing

@@robertcarroll2840 not a v8 maybe just the same engine as the supra. Or their own custom v6 TT like the q50 red sport
Tesla’s receive OTA updates pretty consistently on their cars to keep it up with the times lol I agree with everything else u said tho
Would happily take the basic CD player and a high quality interior over the latest tech any day. I'd prefer to keep the car for 300k miles than purchase a new one more often. I bought my Lexus for reliability and comfort.
The fact that this car still doesn't have LED rear indicators, makes me facepalm. Probably not that important but come on Lexus.
All the interior lights are still not leds....
No LED turn signals? Wtf that's something so simple to get right..
Yeah, it might not be that important pragmatically speaking, but it's that attention to detail that separate premium vehicles from what Sofyan calls "poverty-spec". Lexus really half-assed this self-proclaimed "all new IS" and it shows in those small details.

Yeah what car guy doesn't know Scotty Kilmer, he would definitely recommend this one
The exterior is impressive for a facelift, looks all new, others don‘t change as much for a full refresh
Pragmatically, it's more like a FMC to the exterior, and just an MMC for everything else (interior, powertrain, etc).
But can it impress more than the new facelift of the Genesis G80
Mercedes had a facelift on the GLC and the E class that changed the entire car so what are you talking about?
This car looks great, they knocked the styling out of the park
Agreed
Definitely agree! I just reviewed them and can’t get over the styling!
Yup, MUCH better looking car than the last gen model, lower and wider looking, with less busy styling.
They’ve been using this engine since the 2006 IS350, yes it’s proven to be extremely reliable and it’s not slow, but they need to get a more powerful engine to keep up with the competition, I’m surprised the twin turbo v6 from the LS hasn’t trickled down.
Toyota has new engines that unfortunately we may not get due to emissions.
I mentioned this as a comment but I will reply here:
They can't just stuff engines from different models. The LS is based on a different architecture and that engine simply won't work with the IS.

Why do they put regular bulbs in the rear instead of LEDs
Because they know Genesis has them beat
They probably got lazy and said "this redesign for the exterior is enough, just put those lightbulbs in there..not a big deal"
The facelift has LEDs so this is odd
Because in typical Lexus fashion, if it works why change it. They may be incandescent bulbs but at least they're amber so they could be worse.
Yes they should’ve made the rear turn signals led but honestly if someone is going to buy this car they can just order some Led amber bulbs from Amazon

Those tail lights look very identical to the ones on the new Avalon
No they don’t.
Completely different lighting assembly. Also the Avalon does not light up completely it’s not a true LED single unit like this on the Lexus.
i think they look similar to the UX tail lights
Not at all
Insofar as they both have red tail lights, I guess.
Well, a positive is that if you’re something looking at something like a new 330i, the IS350 F Sport is a good alternative since it’s starting price is close at mid 40k, but offers more power.....

Love it
The moving shot above the tree stump at 3:47 was cinematic gold.
I’m more of a Honda/Acura guy, but I honestly like what Lexus offered with the IS. In a world full of overstyled and complicated interior designs, it keeps things familiar. I do understand, however, why people might not be able to justify spending so much money on an outdated design.
@Raschaud Farmer RSX??

The new exterior is absolutely gorgeous, just needed a power upgrade option and I could overlook the same basic interior and fake leather.
As of 2020 Lexus has sold 8721 IS for the whole year I don’t think a 4th gen is coming at all
that's why Lexus didn't bother investing on a new platform for this model, and essentially recycled the ancient interior and powertrains.
Look at the land cruiser, lx570, sequioa and the gx. i think they NAILED IT with the design inside and out. but if i were in charge of it i would’ve made it what everyone wants. i would’ve put the new IS on the same platform as the LS and LC, i would then get rid of the 2.0T and the de-tuned V6 and make the 350’s V6 the base motor. i then would bring back the IS-F and offer it with the 5.0L V8 AND the twin turbo V6 from the LS and put the 10 Speed Auto in both engines. Lexus can you hire me now?
The reason they did not put it on the plattform of the LS is because lexus and mazda develop a new rwd plattform together due in 2022/2023 on which the next is is supposed to ride on aswell. That‘s why they extended the live of this generation

World: Why’d you use light bulbs for the rear turn signals?
Lexus: Hey, $6 (cost savings) is $6.
You can see my build here if interested: www.clublexus.com/forums/build-threads/954624-2010-is350-sport-build-thread.html
The IS350 has plenty of power, what the heck do you need 500 whp for?
20:04: And I would argue that after 3 years, the Lexus would cost less to maintain than all the German rivals and have a higher resale value too.

It looks great but Lexus should have stepped up the refresh a little more. The rear indicators should have been LEDs and the engine power needs an increase across the board.
Beautifully said
at least they made it touchscreen, can't stand the touchpad👍
I wish they had a tuning knob as the trackpad, so much better in my opinion. Like the one on the Mazda vehicles.
Yes I like touchscreen, which is one of the reasons I won't give up my 18 aspec for the new one, this car is still nice even though it's refreshed
hahaha.
WOW! That engine sound! I will be HAPPY to buy this car with front drive and 8 speed auto. I have an ES330 with 300,000 miles and NO issues. Still runs like new. Want a similar BMW or Mercedes? You better find a better paying job to pay for parts, service and repair...
Looks nice but can't justify buying a car at that price with that interior and lack of features
They’re asking $56,000 for this.... I’d pay no more then $40
I like the fact that Toyota left the tried and true 3.5v6 in there. Would get the RWD only with the 8sp auto. I love this car..Looks amazing. Considering getting one.
Lexus IS like Apple , they keep on pushing out the same product every year and calling it new
Yup, and they both still sell like hot cakes.
I see the similarities. Also Apple doesn’t do anything until they’re sure it’s reliable just like Lexus. BMW is like Samsung, always putting the newest stuff.
@@Anthony-dk7de accuracy 💯
@@Anthony-dk7de but apple is great and lexus sucks but bmw is amazing and samsung is questionable
@@kristians2704 BMW is WAY overpriced even for their entry vehicles.
I personally dig it, the bulbs can be changed via after market... not a deal breaker. This refresh is nice. The Japanese are always conservative compared to their counterparts.. it just works.
I'm actually glad they didn't change the interior design
It looks good and a winning horse does not change so quickly
A turbocharged engine would’ve made this thing a real beast. Looks beautiful, but it really should have more oomph under the hood to match. Think I’ll hold on to my Q50 Red Sport just a little longer....
Alex on Autos has the same question on his thumbnail. Great minds think alike!
That was completely unplanned! 😂
love this IS350, exterior is amazing. even the interior is great. if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. i would definitely get the rear wheel drive FSport. looking to get a low mileage one in 4 years when i retire.
Love the exterior. However the interior feels dated next to the 2021 Acura TLX
Because its just a refresh. Wait for a redesign
Adding more safety Intuitive Parking Assist with Auto Braking, Rear Cross-Traffic Braking (RCTB) and Rear Pedestrian Detection, if you're into that sort of thing.
Been waiting for this, thanks @sofyan
I'm glad to know Sofyan wasn't impressed which tells me... "Don't waste your time!!"......
Agree with what you said. It’s just hard the power this has vs competition 🤦♂️
These are my thoughts as well. I'm getting to the age now where specs superiority over my bros is a non-factor. I now buy cars for myself and my needs, not what others think or don't think.
How come no one has mentioned the new chassis, suspension set up and the new super handling system?
I think this review is overly biased!
Love that theyde keeping the NA v6 but that needs to be the base engine lol
the AWD has the 6 speed auto, but if you get the RWD it's an 8 speed.
Tbh, Lexus gives a lot of useful stuff while having a decent price.
I really like Lexus but they aren't doing enough why couldn't they add even ambient lighting am really dissatisfied
@Chezzyperson ok that's not true,😂
@Chezzyperson the rx, nx and LX, are all getting replaced in a matter of years there's an upcoming LQ, and Lexus has teased an ISF, so they definitely have new things coming plus the just trademarked the TX nameplate
@Chezzyperson they are only discontinuing the IS and RC in the UK, and I don't understand what you mean by after overhauls it is false😂, if u watched the IS reveal video they kept talking about an ISF and the presenter said when u make a new one let me be the first to drive it
I have this car I just got it and it handles nice but it can use an engine upgrade definitely a comfortable ride and fun to drive
2GR is a great engine.
Perfect car for making mods to
The first generation Lexus IS300 with the yellow fog lights (fog mod baby!!!
The TNGA
Toyota has more vehicles on that platform than Lexus does.
@@jermainec2462 makes sense. I hope Lexus brings a new IS soon. I know Lexus can do it
I can absolutely comment on vehicles that are comparable to my current car, especially why I don't buy them.
@Raschaud Farmer not as many as these 2 dollar ass crossovers popping up everywhere lol
The car looks great inside and out, but Lexus needs to add more tech and more engine options to stay competitive
