    Thank you kids! So fabulous to experience and hear. I own 3 great fiddles. one recorded records from Weiser, Idaho and was owned by Lloyd Wanzer 5 times national fiddle contest winner, one is a 5 string, and one I play most .... made by Sam Daniels from Idaho. So I love fiddle music. So I really love great talent and great music! This is among the best I ever heard! Love it Thank you so much for sharing your fabulous talent!

    After 60 years of guitar playing and 20 years of bass, I know what Whit and Jake are doing, I just can't do it. But after only 8 years of fiddle I don't think I will live long enough to understand what Elana is doing. I love this group. And they are an inspiration for my 10 year old musician grandson.

      I have four months of viola, and by comparison this looks like something from Outer Space...or the Twilight Zone.

    Heard this when it aired and became an instant fan, traveling to Austin many a late Wednesday afternoon to hear them at the Continental. They travel so much that they don't play in Austin nearly as often. Regrettably, I missed them this month when they did. Been a fan of gypsy jazz since first becoming acquainted with Django and Grappelli in the 70's, I love the way HCOC mixes that with Western Swing and old standards. Get out to see them if you can!

    If you ever get a chance to see these people, by all means, do so! You will be thoroughly entertained beyond your shorts ( or insert whatever euphemism you wish). The added frosting, in my experience, is you get to meet/get autographs after the show! Try doing that with Paul McCartney (not that I'm knocking him, by any means!).

    Russian tunes seem to bathe in misery while putting on a festive front. Love this band.

      *****, I think this tune is more gypsy than Russian. Just saying.

    • @idahodad1

      It's a Russian Folk song The band may put gypsy Spin on it

    • @VioletGiraffe
      @VioletGiraffe 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      *****, the gypsy spin is inherent to the tune - which. by the way, is written by an Italian-born British composer. The text is written by a Ukrainian poet. So it's not even a folk song.

      VioletGiraffe I found this on the internet so take it for what it's worth. gypsylyrics.wordpress.com/ochi-chyornye/ The Rosenburg Trio does a great job of this tune as well. Elana James mentions that it's based on a Russian folk song in the beginning. It's interesting how you hear different influences in tunes and find out the history of how they came together.

      *****, that pretty much coincides with what's written on Wikipedia and supports my point. Also, how is it a folk song when you know the lyrics were written from scratch by a specific person, same as the music?
