I saw Christopher in 'Ryan's Daughter' as a 15-year old. Never forgot him. Decades later he is still the most attractive guy I ever laid eyes on. I know he had issues, but who does not. His brief career is remembered still today. RIP Mr. Jones.
He reminds me of my favorite International super star Alain Delon. In fact, Dean, Delon and Jones all had extremely difficult childhood problems. All three were rebellious.
Chris should have got an Oscar for Ryan's Daughter, he had relatively few lines but his subtle facial expressions spoke volumes, he probably drew on his own troubled childhood to add tremendous depth to the role of the troubled shell-shocked Major.
Skip E is hilarious and I'm only sorry I never talked to him as I passed his table at the Hollywood collectors show years ago. This man is a compendium of information about entertainers. His interviews are not only entertaining but also, hysterical.
One of the great mysteries of the late 60s is Christopher Jones. Just walking away from what could’ve been a brilliant film career. Like jack Nicholson or al Pacino his career would’ve been. Rip.
What a weird show. Christopher Jones, who disappeared from show business after "Ryan's Daughter", pops in out of nowhere. This is an actor who never gives interviews.
Wow!! I was a Christopher Jones fan when I was 14 years old and saw "Wild In The Streets." I always thought it was such a tragedy that for whatever reasons, he pretty much dropped out of acting. Since the advent of TH-cam, I've put in a search on him once in awhile...just to see if anything new gets posted. This is really special...as I don't know of any video or photos that exist of him from the latter 70s...thru the 80s and early 90s. I know he made a cameo appearance in a movie playing a killer around the mid 90s called "Mad Dog Time" ...and he was asked to play the part of Zed in "Pulp Fiction"...but he turned it down. The only other pics I've seen of him were not too long before he died. It was at a Birthday party for Shelley Winters. Chris says in this video that he was "supposedly" going to be playing James Dean. I wonder why that didn't happen (??) Anyway, thank you so much for posting this! As far as this show...it looks like a lot of those local cable shows from the 80s. Low budget and fly by the seat of the pants :) I've never heard of Skip E. Lowe. He's a trip! :) And that John Perkins Barrymore...Woah!!!! I wonder how far he got with that horseshit he was spewing. And Chris says he was "escorting" him...his "bodyguard" Crazy stuff! RIP Chris!
Hello Paxton, I've been curious about this charismatic actor too ever since he "disappeared" from public view in the early 70s. As you say, this video is really special, but also one of the most awkward TV interviews ever! Hilarious stuff! I'm sad Chris is no longer with us, I thought he was so good in the few movies and TV show that he did.
Hiddy-Do La Person, So right! It's awkward as can be....as those cable access shows were back in the 80s. But that's the very thing that made you keep watching....awkwardly funny! :) But I must say, this Skip E. Lowe is quite a character! Christopher Jones certainly had that "IT" factor that very few have (in the Brando, James Dean style) Even in this funny but bumbling thing, when Chris walks on (as uncomfortable as he was) his cool just takes over. If you've searched out info on him you know his real name was William Frank Jones. He had several kids. He actually lived in my hometown when he was a kid...at an orphanage. I read something somewhere...a guy that said he was a neighbor of Chris in Van Nuys. He said that Chris just simply got fed up with the whole Hollywood/Acting thing. Except for that small role in "Mad Dog Time" he never did anything else moviewise. He spent his time painting & sculpting. I remember seeing an "E True Hollywood" episode on him....but I haven't seen it posted on TH-cam yet.
Hi Paxton, it's the first time anyone has said "hiddy-do" to me ... I'm from across the pond! Ha ha, I think I'll start using that expression!! I agree with you about Chris - is he remembered in your hometown? Memphis? I just wish he'd made more films.
I think Chris said he was "supporting" John Perkins "Barrymore," not "escorting" him. I had no idea Jones was still knocking around with showbiz types all those years later (14 years after his last movie to that time). He still looked good and certainly could have still had a career. The fact that he said he had retained an agent suggests he was wanting to give it another try. Wonder why that didn't pan out. As for the interview, Lowe's interviews were known for being strange and exceedingly awkward. But he interviewed just about everybody over decades of doing his low-rent cable access show. His bizarre persona was imitated by Martin Short in the character of Jiminy Glick.
Buckminster Fuller. I replayed that segment a few times. I turned it up louder and watched on my computer with better speakers. Sure sounds like he is saying "escorting Barrymore" to me....plus Skip is repeating what Chris is saying and Skip says, "You're escor.." then he stops. When they pan to Barrymore, you hear Chris say "I'm his bodyguard." I had never heard of John (Perkins) Barrymore until this video Maybe he was just a funny curiosity to Chris. the funniest thing to me (after watching it again) is Adrienne Anderson. By the time they all get out there....Skip's strangeness, Barrymore even stranger, throw Chris in out of the blue....Adrienne has a bewildered look on her face like "What planet are these guys from?" :)
Just found this video. Christopher Jones was my neighbor in Van Nuys in the 80's. Was living common law with a young woman who bore Him a son, Chris Jr. This was just the way He was back then. Over Hollywood and all the trappings.A talented artist and sculptor as well. There exists a great online only biography. Worth looking up.
Thanks for the info. He was a very troubled guy with psychic wounds that time could never heal. Apparently he and Sharon Tate had a brief love affair when they both filming movies in Rome in early 1969 and after finding out about her murder, he had a total nervous breakdown.
@@DeepScreenAnalysis And then he got savaged by critics for his performance in 'Ryan's Daughter'. They said he couldn't act?? He was brilliant in everything I've seen him in. It wasn't just Jones who lost the plot regarding career choice after Ryan's Daughter got critically mauled. Director David Lean quit movies for over ten years.
@@blackmore4 Accordingly to Olivia Hussey in her memoir, Chris Jones was so stoned during the filming of Ryan's Daughter that much of his dialogue had to be overdubbed. Sad.
He certainly does ! What a waste of career ! Was in a couple of features and one really big budget production (MGM's "Ryan's Daughter"). I recall as kid in the 60s watching his one season TV Western about Jesse James. Was really surprised when he simply walked off the set. Mr Jones must have had lots of personal demons, poor fellow. Skip has some VERY interesting guests but he often asks really personal questions which clearly makes his guest clearly uncomfortable. And he interrupts WAY too much !! :-(
Eight months later and I'm watching this train wreck again. If someone asked me to summarize what happened on this video, I don't know where I would possibly begin.
As a youngster I was blown away by the divine Chris Jones in Ryan’s Daughter so find his presence in this bizarre interview somewhat disturbing and painful. I know he was deeply affected by the brutal murder of Sharon Tate whom he was seeing and had a troubled upbringing to begin with…

Yes Chris just didn't wanna be there. An odd character, very misunderstood.
He was a complete hoax and everything he's saying is total B.S. What makes this interesting is that you can sort of tell that Skip E. knows he's a fraud, and is trying to trap him.

Totally agree
he drew on James Dean who he copied endlessly.
@@gerrydooley951 I read somewhere that Jones in Ryans Daughter had all his lines dubbed by an english actor.
I thought Christopher Jones was amazing in Ryan's Daughter... he had a screen presence which just captivated me.
Amen to that ! He truly did have screen charisma. But he was quite a troubled fellow. His wasted career was truly a great tragedy.
Yeah, Chris stole the show from the likes of heavyweights such as Mitchum, Howard and Mills..:)
OMG--look up Alain Delon on TH-cam. Thank me later.
Skip E is hilarious and I'm only sorry I never talked to him as I passed his table at the Hollywood collectors show years ago. This man is a compendium of information about entertainers. His interviews are not only entertaining but also, hysterical.
They should of had a chair for Chris. I wanted to hear more from him.
One of the great mysteries of the late 60s is Christopher Jones. Just walking away from what could’ve been a brilliant film career. Like jack Nicholson or al Pacino his career would’ve been. Rip.
He was one of the original choices to play Michael Corleone and actually looked more like Brando than Pacino did.

One minute in and I figured out that Skip Lowe was the inspiration for Jiminy Glick.

I can confirm this is not the same John Perkins who played Father McShane on Ryan’s Hope.
Hey, Chris... squat right here..... !!
Skip is hopeless!😂
John Barrymore only had one son John Drew Barrymore and two daughters Diana Barrymore and Dolores Ethel Mae Barrymore
He walked out of the interview. His health obviously was not good, including, probably, his mental health.
Why did Christopher Jones appear on this show?
Terrible wigs ...just terrible CJ he's as high as a kite
He's not a Barrymore!

It’s weird because he does look like him in a weird way.
I always associated Could it Be Magic with Barry Manilow. Am I remembering something wrong?
John is so self absorbed
Chris is Jonesing
what the heck is this? bizarre
Christopher's not even on here! Jip!
He’s at the 17 minute mark.
