Dude your tool review videos are hands down the best. Seriously. Your demeanor, attention to detail, video work, information, quick to the point facts, and honesty are just miles above the rest. Keep it up and thank you.
Just saw the competition (Milwaukee) come out with their 2gal cordless version, and I was concerned about the comparison between the 2; and according to a video I just saw on that, they BOTH perform just about the same, however Milwaukee is ridiculously priced at $479 ($180 more) and it is about 38lbs! Kudos to Dewalt! Also consider that Dewalt has the 60v FLEXVOLT feature that leaves Milwaukee batteries in the dust ;-)
The battery receiver moving is on purpose in case you persay drop the compressor, it helps mitigate the probability of it breaking both for the receiver and for the battery. I've had two of them and the turn valve to decompress the air compressor hasnt been a issue in the 3 years of useing them same goes on another someone I know has. Also love ya channel, wished ya channel would get more views cause it certainly deserves them for the dedication ya guys put in the videos
Thanks bra , the test results are always 95to 100% in depth detail from you guys . You guys sure do a lot of research and testing on a lot of these machines, great review . Great review 👍
Excellent review... all the videos that review this compressor only went as far as saying it's a "punch list" compressor. You gave us a better idea of what it can do and that it's able to keep up with finish gun nailers. Good job brother...
Oswanny Delgadillo thx for that comment. As a carpenter I have the same questions you guys do, so I try to answer them, sometime it’s a base hit and sometime u get a homerun
Funny you addressed the coupler. I bought mine today and opened it right away to see what it had then went right back in Home Depot and bought a quick connect coupler 😁. Great video!
So everyone has an idea , I have painted a security gate 3x7 with screen mesh ( which it takes alot of paint and air ) in a 60 flexvolt with the new 12 amp battery and it last about 1hr, and the compressor was on almost constantly and I had to wait to recharge every 2 minutes. Of course is not design for that kind of torture but I wanna to see it's capacities and I got to complete the job.
79 DB and 90 DB is a huge difference. Twice as loud as DeWALT claims. I wonder if an oil version or a significantly quieter version will come out in the future. Great video as always
JronmanBuilds sound measurement and reporting is a highly precise scientific process. Because sound is measured in a logarithmic decibel scale, the numbers are important. Our readers know that a difference in an additional 10 db is a doubling of the sound energy. Manufacturers test and report their sound readings in a specialized anechoic chamber with multiple high-precision microphones placed around the test tool. Manufacturers record the sound in careful and controlled conditions under strict test procedures. The test group analyze and process the data according to various sound laboratory standards. This laboratory testing yields a very precise and accurate sound value. The manufacturers’ published sound levels are absolutely accurate. However, these sound intensity levels will not be those that users will encounter in field conditions. Users will hear sound reflections from walls, ceilings and hard surfaces and ambient noise. Users, believe it or not, may slip or strip fasteners with the bit in their impact drivers. These factors will lead to a higher peak sound intensity. TBB has said many times that we are not a testing laboratory, nor are we trying to be one during our tool tests. We use commercially available, high quality equipment for our measurements. We attempt to keep our tests consistent and repeatable. We urge the readers to focus on the relative values of our test results. Due to the above factors, readers will note that the TBB sound test results will not track to those that the tool manufacturers publish for their tools.
Dont forget that te decibel reading that is out of the norme can be associated with the compressor being in a small inclosed workshop. increase the size of the room or take it outside the decibels will decrease.

Im going to buy this. I use a 23 AWG grex nailer. This type of gun uses a tiny amount of air. A compressor like this would be perfect. I am hoping within a few generations they will use a motor like the Rolair JC-710 which is more like a humm then a normal compressor.
When I need a small compressor like this I will continue to use my California Air compressor because it is so quiet, like the Rolair. Finish work in a house needs a quiet compressor since I do remodel and people are quite often somewhere else in the house while I am working. I guess if I was building a treehouse out in the woods without electric power from the mains, I could see a use for this. I personally would instead look into buying the power station and then running my quiet compressor off that.
How about using it for an air blower? My son & I have RC vehicles & when we’re out bashing with them we have to wait until se get home to clean them. We’d rather do it in the field. Please advise Thank you
I build fences. We slap pickets on very quickly (6 nails per picket)... Do you think this thing could keep up? One person nailing, one person handling the pickets..
I want to say great video, as always. I was able to use one of these compressors yesterday, and I'm a bit mixed on my opinion. For a punch list, it would be great. My concern, and it really bugs me, is this: Why didn't they use the quiet trim compressor(DWFP55130)from a year or two ago for this? They put this tech on their lowest end pancake? For an extra $100 to $125, the quiet trim compressor would have been a major improvement. The specs between them are vastly different for a 12 lb difference in weight. 200 psi vs 135 psi. SCFM @ 90 psi is a night and day difference. A framer can be used(2 of them in fact) with the quiet compressor. I feel this was a let's throw this together and get it out there to get a feel for the response. Great idea, just under executed in my opinion. Today, I did a bit of a test, and brought my Dewalt portable power station and quiet trim compressor to work because I was laying baseboards all day, and that combo was great. The quiet model is also a ton quieter. Hopefully they will take it up a notch on the next model.
My take is that the battery 'slop' is definitely intentional design to isolate the battery from the harsh vibration of the pump. There's no way that would happen on accident.
andrew havranek you're probably right, I would think that they would somehow isolate the diary slide or make it encased in form or something as opposed to have the battery rock like that
Rob, we've met. This is Shane previously with Festool USA, worked along side Michael and Rick doing the online marketing. Keep up the great work on the videos!
Rob, thank you for the reply but I'm confused. I asked how many ^do^ use cordless. Are you saying not many? I'm just curious because despite some of the disadvantages of cordless nailers, I just can't seem to go back to my corded ones, even when using a cordless compressor.
Thanks for the reply Rob, I'm a bit surprised because cordless seems to be the "in" thing around here. The roofers and most framers still pretty much all use air though.
Regarding the decibel level, Dewalt website says the test is per ISO 3477, which I believe is a typo and meant to be ISO 3744. These tests are done in a hemi-anechoic room (poured concrete walls clad with sound-absorbing fiberglass wedges nearly 3 feet deep) which attempts to simulate a space that has no walls to reflect sound. Real world decibel tests in an enclosed space are going to have much higher sound pressure levels.
andrew havranek Correct, and that’s for mentioning that sound measurement and reporting is a highly precise scientific process. Manufacturers test and report their sound readings in a specialized anechoic chamber with multiple high-precision microphones placed around the test tool. Im about to just give in and invest in both the dealt and milwaukee platform. Im already invested in milwaukee but desalt is coming out with some interesting cordless tools
u won't regret it. i have both and makita as well as hitachi and seance, u can literally shop for the tool best suited and best priced when u have a few brands
My take is that the battery boot 'slop' is intentional design to isolate the battery from the harsh vibration of the pump. A compressor pump is particularly sharp at 400-500 Hz with notable amplitude, not the kind of environment a battery likes.
FYI Dewalt stated to me that this compressor will slowly drain the battery even when the switch is off. Works good though, but batt will be dead next day.
Paul Carney it’s recommended to not leave batteries docked in your power tools anyways...It’s as easy as taking the battery out when your done using it ...And Bam 💥!!! Easy as Pie
After watching your review, it made me stop buying this product for now. It seems I should get it when the next version is on the market. Great review! Many thanks
You sold me the Dewalt cordless table saw and about to sell me this too. Just one question: Did you try it with framing nailer? My cordless gas nailer doesn't have bump trigger which leave me with two options. Either I buy this compressor and continue using my pneumatic or go for the new Dewalt cordless nailer with bump trigger. Thanks Rob and the TBB team for great honest reviews.
It can handle a little framing, but not an extended period of time. I used mine with 2" framing nails at 90 PSI for nailing fence slats, and I couldn't outrun it, although the compressor was running pretty much the whole time. The nailer I was using was rated for 2.4 SCFM @ 90 PSI, which is twice that of the compressor's capability. However, it I'm betting a pro could have set a faster pace than I did and could have ended up waiting for it to catch up.
I’m pretty sure that the battery housing has that slop by design. That slop should make it easier to attach and detach the batteries. Nintendo actually did the same thing on their usb C design for the docks
I've had this compressor for two years and I would recommend it. What will it do?? It will nail down 12 bundles of shingles using a Hitachi roofing nailer. There was no power on site, did the job fine, I was on the third 6ah battery at the end. It will build 30' of pt fortress fence complete while switching out batteries one time using Hitachi coil nailer. Again, power too far away. And that's what it is. Small job without convenient AC power and you don't need to lug gasoline and a generator. Not a daily driver but compact and handy. It would probably run an 18 gauge nailer most of the day on one battery.
Love your reviews ,I am seriously thinking about getting one of these do you think after the time you have used it would you still recommend this?? I have cordless nailers but think this be great as the nailers can be more hassle than worth sometimes
do u think if they do noise tests in a sound proof room they could be getting more accurate readings vs u in the garage may have an echo making it louder ? am i crazy lmao
Exactly. A "quiet" room with no one in it, will still measure 20-30 dba. Google the quietest room on Earth. People that are placed in that room can only last a few minutes. It's an insane experience to truly be in complete silence.

This tool is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. You still have to run a hose from the compressor to the tool. I can Imagine doing crown, holding a piece with one hand, gun in the other hand, and the battery dying in that moment.
I just watched this video, and I am wondering if it could be used with a small sander like the Dewalt DWMT70780 or another brand of small finish sander?
Great review Rob! I'm not sure how Dewalt got 79db if you are getting 92db (more that TWICE as loud) but maybe they tested it at the end of a 50 foot hose! Lol! Still, it appears to be a great addition to their cordless line.

Seems 2 b more for finish guys idk if it would keep up with roofing ... I hope milwaukee releases something similar.. I've invested in the m18 tool line and I'm very very pleased.. it blows all my co workers ridgid and Makita tools out of the watter and most of there tools r better than dewalt and boch and battery life is outstanding!! I've driven 1,000 2 1/2" drywall screws on a single 3.0amp battery with 1 bar of battery left.. my Co workers dewalt burned 2 battery's sinking about 6-700 screws ...
Great video and good information. Personally I don't like tiny tanks and _never if they leak_ especially paying $300 with fragile parts. Have you done any overnight pressure test? If I were to guess then I think the battery is meant to be loose to prevent damage to the coupling and battery. Will people buy it .. sure. What would be better is a 6 gallon version especially if it's that loud. I could accept it's small size if it were *quiet.* Lets see version 2.
I let mine sit for 48 hours, and it was down from 150 PSI to 30 PSI when I checked at the end of that time period. Performance-wise, it hasn't been an issue at all.
Thanks for this honest review. I have a dewalt air compressor that size new just aint cordless and im a dewalt die hard fan but i think ill pass on this. I have nearly all the flex volt tools imma get there 12' miter saw double bevel flexvolt for sure. Would have bout their flexvolt laser but a thousand and up seems too much sounds like topcon intead. I bought a bosch 800' laser for 500 and as far batterys i dont mind buying my own rechargeable batteries. Well thanks for the honest review.
For everyone out there, this is a good compressor, I bought one and I'm a Makita Man...Bare in mind all though it keeps up with what was mentioned plus more it's designed for small and or emergency jobs...On a 12 amp hr batterie you could do about 20 -25 15 inch tires easily , all though pricy ( for Australia ) I'd rather one of these than have a 12v pump from one of those 4x4 shops.. you will also see a lot of bad reviews on TH-cam as far as I'm concerned those guys are idiots. As for the lose valve mine is ok, your's looks like the screw needs tightening.
I'm gonna be real with all you guys, unlike homeboy here, he's sponsored by this tool companies so he needs to talk good about their tools. I'm a carpenter by trade, I work Los Angles county and Orange County the most and I'm working from 5am to 1pm. I recently purchased the 60v brushless dewalt sawzal and circular saw. #1 the circular saw is mainly for the left handed so it completely sucks for a right handed carpenter and most carpenters follow the blade because you never know if the table is off, working in union you use diverse tools it's never your personal tools so you don't know if the tools are up to speck, some people drop shit, it happens. The skill saw is so light but has so much power it vibrates way to much and is hard to get a clean good start with speed, it just vibrates to much. The battery life completely sucks! On a 60v tool it's a joke! You have to be swapping out batteries every 2 hours if that! At least in rough framing, for example cutting out windows 5/8 cheering every 9 windows battery swap. Same thing goes for the sawzall, tho I must say the power is really good while the battery last, you can't tell the difference between cord and cordless. Final conclusion: it mainly sucks because of the battery life, nothing close to power corded tools.
Goku21 AkAcp I agree with you that corded tools will always outlast... but you can't deny the convenience of cordless. Also, while we do accept advertising, we do not let it influence our reviews. We do our best to remain neutral and to give you the best, most objective, FREE information possible. Lastly, Dewalt is not advertising with us this year!
Goku21 AkAcp I have the 54volt 60volt American version circular saw and it doesn’t vibrate and is smooth as anything to use. Maybe your one is used and abused. You say it’s light as but it’s actually heavier than most the 18volt saws. As for being left handed what a croc. Blades on the left sides of saws only really came in with the cordless market. Most if not all corded saws have the blades on the right, and no one who uses a saw of the setup has any issue with the blades being on the right hand side of the motor.
many people here are carpenters by trade. if u can't cut with any saw ur handed then what kind of carpenter are u really.. especially in framing . flex volt doesn't have run time ur right for sure, try makita 36 v, they have the run time and power.
For the limited capabilities for this , Almost not worth buying.. cordless nailers have come leaps and bounds in past few years so to have to drag a hose around almost feels barbaric
Although I agree that cordless nailers have come a long way, they are still nowhere near as light, reliable, or affordable as pneumatic nailers. Most cordless nailers are at least 3x heavier and 3x more expensive than pneumatic nailers. I'll take dragging a hose any day over having to deal with constant nail jams and other issues that still plague cordless nailers to this day.
I agree. Cordless nailers are too expensive in my opinion. I already have a compressor at home to fill truck tires, bike tires, blow sawdust off tools, etc...so why not get a nice nailer to complement it which costs $70 rather than $300?
Dude your tool review videos are hands down the best. Seriously. Your demeanor, attention to detail, video work, information, quick to the point facts, and honesty are just miles above the rest. Keep it up and thank you.
thank you for saying that!
MFiskeaux Absolutely agree.
@@ConcordCarpenter Does Dewalt sponsor you? If not you should say that
cardiacpa they do not
Yea fr he is no joke on point !!
I love how whenever I think about getting this and that, I'll always find a review done by you guys for what I'd like to get.
I'll wait for the next generation of this tool. Needs to be able to plug in the wall and charge. Needs a pressure gauge on the low side.
Maybe a 6 gallon 120V option, that has an adapter like the miter saw.
Doresoom Reviews
I agree 6 gallon version and quieter plus the fixes per the video.
d hamby me too ,I’ll wait.
DeWalt needs to make their tools dual power corded or cordless! I agree with d hamby, a built in charger would be nice!

mega0876 So the new 12amp battery fits this compressor?
I'm pretty sure you can replace that coupler with one that's just push to connect. Should be a pretty inexpensive upgrade.
Doresoom Tool Reviews yup
I agree on those two problems you found . Seems something came lose on battery base connection .
Your honest reviews are great. I’ll be waiting till the next generation of this tool

Can you tell me if the 54v model is better than the 18V as you can use both types of battery in the latter. Regards Liam
I am curious if DeWalt will contact you after this review. If they tell if the battery terminal movement is normal and the one hand coupler.
Nick H Deep 6 Leather Works I'll let you know
The battery terminal on mine has some play in it too. I think it's designed that way to isolate vibration.
My take is that the battery boot 'slop' is intentional design to isolate the battery from the harsh vibration of the pump. A compressor pump is particularly sharp at 400-500 Hz with notable amplitude, not the kind of environment a battery likes.
Thank you, picking one up today.
up your game MAKITA!!! this is a game changer..
Can you use this to fill up a semi truck tire tho??
Nice video ...... also note that this compressor De Walt is made in the USA 👍👍👍
Kanani James don’t think so - read our article in the TBB website on the us factory
Would it kinda work on a siding? I got a dewalt sinding gun??
I too would prefer dual 60 volt batteries with the plug-in adapter like the new miter saw
I’m a buyer for sure “IF” it just had a plug-in adapter
I'd settle for a 60volt adapter, like I 120 they have for the chopsaw
They actually do make an adapter so you can plug it in it’s a battery that has an AC cord on it
FYI Dewalt stated to me that this compressor will slowly drain the battery even when the switch is off. Works good though, but batt will be dead next day.
Paul Carney it’s recommended to not leave batteries docked in your power tools anyways...It’s as easy as taking the battery out when your done using it ...And Bam 💥!!! Easy as Pie
Paul Carney good info
I'm curious, roughly how much battery is drained when the compressor cycles (starting at 0 psi)? Could one battery provide 4 or 5 full tanks of air?
I'd second guess the battery connector is designed to not be fixed rigid to counter the vibrations.
After watching your review, it made me stop buying this product for now. It seems I should get it when the next version is on the market.
Great review! Many thanks
Thank you for the information I’m looking to get one soon
No problem 👍
Does this work with a flooring gun you use with bamboo?
Doresoom Reviews, your answer was very helpful. Thanks for your time and experience.
Khalid Al-Bahi no it’s not designed for that- yet
Can you use a regular 20 xr battery?
Thanks, great review, this one is for when I run out of other tools to buy
if you turn down the regulator will it one hand connect
Aggressive_rambo13 Rambo's Randomness Productions o
Can you use this for hvlp paint jobs ?
How is it holding up after two years?
Will you please contact DeWalt and tell them ,if they have not started yet ,to give us a cordless belt sander?
james wells couple of cool too
S coming the year
can you try this test again with a flex volt 60/20 12 AH
What about spray paiting?
Depends on your spray gun air requirements. This is rated at 1.2 SCFM @ 90 PSI.
Thanks rob great video
Will it fill up full size truck tires with one full charge ?
I’m pretty sure that the battery housing has that slop by design. That slop should make it easier to attach and detach the batteries. Nintendo actually did the same thing on their usb C design for the docks
Plumber here....Would it work for closing housed?
@@Planes9905 not sure
Will it fit in a systainer like the senco 1010 ?
William Strahan not sure, seems kinda big
can it air up a tire or 4..
rambo lambo Definitely it might take some time on recovery
do u think if they do noise tests in a sound proof room they could be getting more accurate readings vs u in the garage may have an echo making it louder ? am i crazy lmao
You can't get an accurate Dba reading in a standard room with no sound insulation.
unitedgray so that could be why dewalt got much lower numbers cause they use a sound proofed room?
Exactly. A "quiet" room with no one in it, will still measure 20-30 dba. Google the quietest room on Earth. People that are placed in that room can only last a few minutes. It's an insane experience to truly be in complete silence.
sound measurement and reporting is a highly precise scientific process..
This tool is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. You still have to run a hose from the compressor to the tool. I can Imagine doing crown, holding a piece with one hand, gun in the other hand, and the battery dying in that moment.
Then buy a battery nailer🤦♂️why spend 300 dllrs on a compressor when the best nailer cost 300
I just watched this video, and I am wondering if it could be used with a small sander like the Dewalt DWMT70780 or another brand of small finish sander?
Probably not
Great video. Thanks
To bad
Being battery operated would sure make it a hot setup for that
Maybe relocating the guage panel
Great review!
Great review Rob! I'm not sure how Dewalt got 79db if you are getting 92db (more that TWICE as loud) but maybe they tested it at the end of a 50 foot hose! Lol! Still, it appears to be a great addition to their cordless line.
Wild Goose i'm pretty sure they have way more accurate testing equipment than I do
lol 2 times 79 is 158... not quite double
Dba is not a linear scale. An increase of 10 Dba is roughly twice the sound level.
unitedgray i see. Thats weird
Will this be able to handle the DeWalt roofing nail gun?
a little bit or a small or slow job. Think punch list
How long is it last on the flex battery
Ok but I’d like longer
Nice job on the review
2:22 to fill up is QUICK... My 20 gallon 150psi takes well over 5 minutes.. !!
u need a better compressor lmao
Hi there Can i also use it for painting pistol?
dont think so
Will it air up the tires on a isuzu npr HD to 90psi?
yup
@@ConcordCarpenter thanks.
Rob, will the reg 20v charger charge the flex ?
spyderx92 no
Yes we have 20v ones they charge them
Yo rob at the watching your videos for a long Time can the compressor take a framing nailer because me my dad have to do some roofing
It can handle a little framing, but not an extended period of time. I used mine with 2" nails at 90 PSI for nailing fence slats, and I couldn't outrun it, although the compressor was running pretty much the whole time. The nailer I was using was rated for 2.4 SCFM @ 90 PSI, which is twice that of the compressor's capability. However, it I'm betting a pro could have set a faster pace than I did and could have ended up waiting for it to catch up.
faded joey it might do some. Ails bur is NOT designed for it
Seems 2 b more for finish guys idk if it would keep up with roofing ...

Performance-wise, it hasn't been an issue at all.
we need this in australia.
No
We gotta get a new compressor
You can't beet pneumatic ! Great video!
I'm sorry to tell you but the quick connect fittings start leaking faster than the non quick connect fittings after everyday use. just saying...
Id buy it if it charged the battery when plugged in like their radios do
jc86 that would be nice but it would add weight
Anybody else feel like a fish looking at a worm that's hanging on a hook?
I did. Then I ate the worm. :-)
Allen McKinney haha me too
$300 for the kit, that's madness. Over here you be looking at around £320 for the bare unit🙈
It doesn't protect the 9ah or 12 ah batts.
Goku...You are not comparing apples to apples..Plus your credibility went down when you stated you work in LA...
many people here are carpenters by trade. if u can't cut with any saw ur handed then what kind of carpenter are u really.. especially in framing . flex volt doesn't have run time ur right for sure, try makita 36 v, they have the run time and power.
I agree that Goku sounds like a douche but why the deducted points for working in LA?
Needs to be quieter. I work in and around people living and working.....
rubbersole agreed, if it was actually 79 decibels then maybe
I already have a compressor at home to fill truck tires, bike tires, blow sawdust off tools, etc...so why not get a nice nailer to complement it which costs $70 rather than $300?
ridgid they have one with two batteries
