I'm glad to hear that it's still your favorite.... but wait, there's more... Plans and designs for the next axe in the premium Wood-Craft line for Council are taking shape... We hope that it will be on the market sometime soon, following the new Velvicut 1.25 lbs Hudson Bay Belt Hatchet.... Lots of designs and patterns slated to be released by Council covering a large range of axe work and needs... So, stay tuned!! Thanks again for your support! Peace, Rooster (Axe Junkies on FB)
I sure will stay tuned, Craig! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your outstanding comment, brother! Looking forward to the new designs! -Dave
I subscribed on the link, Rooster, not sure it took my email but I'm hoping so... So far my only Council Tool is a Jersey 36" with curved handle -- easily the nicest axe I've ever owned. But I use hatchets more often & I'd love to check out that Velvicut Hudson Bay...
Sounds like the small Hudson Bay Belt Hatchet will be released near the end of July, and the news letter from Whiskey River Trading will notify you when it will be for sale... stay tuned.... :)
Good Review Dave. I like seeing gear reviewed after some usage, that is the real key to how a product preformed. I want Thank You as always my Friend for adding a bit of instruction or teaching in your videos. This allowed me and my oldest Grandson to discuss your firelay and how you progressed in building the fire, We also discussed your stances while chopping. He thought it was pretty cool when used the axe with the ferro rod! Take care, Lee and the boys
Thank you for such a kind, encouraging comment, Lee! Its funny you mention your grandson because in doing my videos, I always try to conduct myself in a professional way. In the back of my mind, I think that "kids may be watching" so I like to try to show proper technique and use appropriate behavior for kid/family-friendliness. I love using a ferro rod with this axe! Very fun! Such a great design by Council Tool to harden and sharpen that top edge to make it a true bushcraft/woodcraft axe for guys like us! I appreciate you and your oldest grandson taking the time to watch and please say HI to both of the good boys for me! -Dave
That really is a quality system and axe. I'm amazed at the sharpness of it. how you can feather wood at will and how it cuts. Always a pleasure watching you work. // Good to see you out in the wood's again. Looks as if most of your snow has receded. Have a great day Dave.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, John! The 25 degree flat grind definitely helps with the multi functionality of this tremendous axe. Yes, most of the snow almost gone, however, it hasn't stopping raining for quite some time..haha! Have a great day, too, John! -Dave
I just bought the hatchet a few weeks ago and I can't believe I ever lived without it. I've used a helko for about 8 years now but the council tools works so much better for wood craft.
Thank you Dave, I'm glad to see that the axe has held up well. I think you have made my mind up for me on what axe to buy, and it's great that it's made here in the U.S.! Appreciate the update review. Take care Brother.
Thank you, too, Jeff! I hope I was able to help, my friend! You sure won't be disappointed with this axe. It's my favorite. And yes, made in the USA is always great! It's nice to hear from you and as always, keep me posted! -Dave
@@HighCarbonSteelLove Hey Dave! I went ahead and bought the Council Tool Woodcraft Pack Axe, I like it a lot, can't wait to use it, I have a camping trip planned for the end of this month. I also bought the leather axe collar from Badgerclaw leatherworks like the one you have. I don't know if you had the same problem when you first got your axe, but I had a hell of a time getting the strap on the sheath to come over far enough to snap it in place. After wrestling with it for a few minutes I finally stretched it enough to snap it closed. I've been leaving it on and snapped for a few days now hoping it will stretch out enough to snap it normally. I have a question for you, did you treat your axe handle with linseed oil when you got it? I hear that's a good thing to do. Don't know if they gave it that treatment at the factory, they don't mention anything about it in the booklet that came in the box. Thanks again!
Thats great to hear, Jeff! You are going to love using that axe! Yes, the leather was a bit tight but i used some Sno Seal and a hair dryer to treat it and it made the leather much more pliable. The axe comes with 1 coat of boiled linseed oil and I added a few more light coats. Let me know how you are liking it, my friend, and congratulations on your purchase! -Dave
Yes you do Dave. Your always willing to respond to comments and the interaction has been amazing over the years. I enjoy the reviews of the products because I know you'll do great job of it. I never have a question about anything you review! Yes, I'm working this week, currently in the Bahamas so it's not too bad. :)
The interaction with you has been excellent, as well, my friend! I appreciate all of the kind words and support over the years! Sounds like a rough week of work, being in the Bahamas and all...haha! I hope to talk with you again soon, brother! -Dave
Dave am not really a Axe person when i go out in the woods. I get everything done with my large knife. But I have to tell you that Axe is a work of art i am definitely going to check them out and see if i change my mind about taking a Axe with me. Thanks for sharing.
Axes definitely aren't for everyone, my friend. I grew up using them so it's always been a good fit for me. I also like getting a good workout when in the woods, so swinging around an axe does the trick for me! If you decide to check out the axe or even the excellent Council Tool Camp axe/hatchet, let me know how it goes! Thank you for watching! -Dave
Thats great to hear, Logan, and I am very happy that you are enjoying the axe! I appreciate the kind, encouraging words and it's great to have you here, my friend! -Dave
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your nice comment, Don! I completely agree, my friend! I try to mix in videos of this axe every few months because I absolutely love it! -Dave
Yeah, I need to make a leather handle protector for my 19" Council tool Wood Craft camp axe. But I love that axe! BTW, I bought my axe from Piragis Northwoods Outfitters in Ely, Minn.
Thanks for the review! Really nice to see positive people giving reviews on TH-cam. You seem like an all around good guy and I trust your review judgment. My pocketbook is crying since I discovered that there are still high quality axes made right here in America! If anyone is comparing this to a Gransfors Bruks axe I can say this: I own multiples of each, and I can say that I prefer the Council tool velvicut axes over GB. They are both high quality axes, but you can't beat buying something made right here in America by an American Artisan. Thanks again for the great review! I look forward to hearing about great products and the very nice people who make them!
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your great comment, Jordan! That is some excellent information that you provided! I have never used a GB axe and your feedback will help people, a lot! Council Tool is an excellent company made up of some very nice people, which is just icing on the cake. Thank you, again, my friend! -Dave
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice comment! I think you would absolutely love this axe! This and the Council Tool Velvicut Double Bit saddle axe are my 2 favorites! Keep me posted if you pick one up, my friend! Would love to hear all about your thoughts! -Dave
Thank you. I'm not much of a double-bit guy, even for throwing. I've got three Gransfors, a Wetterlings, H&B, Arvika and a couple Fsikars. My Wetterlings is the Les Stroud Bushman, I love it for my small axe, only thing is the head is such a wide chisel grind that it's not so great for fine work; whereas, it looks like the Council Woodcraft Pack Axe has a much finer grind so is better as an all rounder...your thoughts?
Still doing a great job after a year, you can see the quality of the Axe my friend. Its great to see the polished finish and that thing is sharp, I think you need to get out more mate.....lol. It good to see a quality item used, loved and well looked after. Hope all is well with you brother.. Dave UK
It's an excellent axe, Dave! An absolute pleasure to use! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your nice comment, my friend! Great to hear from you! -Dave
I still really love your reviews, Dave. And hate 'em, because now not only do I want to spend tomorrow in the woods, I also want to drop the cash on that Woodcraft Pack Axe. :) Thanks for continuing to make videos, brother.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, my friend! I appreciate the kind, encouraging words! I hope you had fun in the woods and its great to hear from you! -Dave
Thanks Dave. This was a great video to start the day with. I wish I would have listened to you and bought that axe instead of the Gransfors Bruks. Oh well, I can have a new goal now. Have a great one buddy!
Thank you for the kind words, Jason! I appreciate you stopping by, my friend! Yes, buying this in the future is an excellent goal..haha! So are you not liking your GB at all, or is it all due to the questionable QC? I know many people like GB, but truthfully, I know a good amount of people that don't like them. Keep me posted, brother, and you have a great day, too! -Dave
It's a nice axe. The very first snowshoeing trip I took it on, I rolled the edge in the first five minutes. I was very careful and just splitting small wood and using a log as a back stop. It's nice but I think I got caught up in a name.
HighCarbonSteel Love, Yeah I brought my new Cold Weather Set, my (2) Customs, My 24" Council Wood Craft Pack Axe with the heavy duty sheath, and my Agawa Canyon 21 Boreal Saw. I also brought my Leatherman Charge TTi. and my Carvin set my Spyderco Puukku and the Flexcut. Oh, a nice box of good cigars, plenty of coffee, and or hot cocoa, all kind of eats, and Go Pat's. Yeah, they will win even with a 4.5 point spread. All posted on my Google Plus, and even some new Tool's for the up-comming Afternoon Delight's Season C'ming up. Dilly Dilly.,,.p
Hello David, i really enjoyed watching your video it was interesting and informative. That axe has a lot of potential, i like it a lot. I always look forward to seeing more excellent videos from you. Kind regards David.
Thank you for the kind, encouraging words, David! I am glad to hear that you enjoyed my video and it's great to have you here! I look forward to having you here for more videos, my friend! The absolute best axe I have ever owned, made by an excellent company and very nice people! -Dave
First impression before I watch the video....im going to guess YES you still love the axe. I base that purely in the huge grin I can see before I hit play. :)
Dave, which of the three axes would you choose for camping use? The price is irrelevant to me. I wanted if you let me take advantage of your experience. Council Tool Woodcraft Pack Axe Gränsfors Bruk Scandinavian Forest Axe Hults Bruk Forest Aby Axe
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice comment, my friend! You would love this axe and shoulder sling/sheath! Best axe package I have ever owned! -Dave
Hi Dave I was wondering if if you could give some pointers on sharpening a flat ground axe,I'm worried I'll ruin the edge grind?Thank you so much for the information you share , Your pal, Tim
Hey Diane! Great to hear from you, my friend! You are exactly right...Council Tool makes awesome products and they aren't too far from you in NC! I appreciate you stopping by! -Dave
Thank you for the helpful reveiws and bushcraft methods. You obviously enjoy the things you do. Enjoy your successes. From Ken Granger aka the Wonderhorse. We get plenty of opportunities in the uk for bushcraft and survival, in forests , moorland and a long and varied coastline.
Thank you for taking the time to watch my videos, Ken! I really appreciate the kind, encouraging words, my friend! Sounds like you have excellent areas to practices skills! -Dave
I am happy to hear that you enjoy the video, my friend! You would absolutely love this axe! Best I have ever owned! There is also a 19" version if you like that one, as well! -Dave
Great to hear from you, Jeff! Thank you for watching and leaving your kind words! You are exactly right about this axe, especially being USA made! Hope everything is going well for you, my friend! -Dave
I own two council tools axes and agree with your enthusiasm regarding their quality. I have not had to sharpen one yet. Have you attempted to edge this 5160 steel yet? Seems it may be a little harder than say a wetterlings.
Council Tool is just outstanding! I've done some work on the edge of the 5160, however, it wasn't a problem at all. I don't have to do it very often, though, as 5160 holds a tremendous edge! -Dave
Another well done video. I just cant.get enough axe videos. Ha ha haI agree with you on the poll being hear treated. Itadds another layer of functionality. Surprised more companies and makers don't do it, since so many people abuse the poll with nails anyway. I love my pack axe. Don't have a lot of time on the stick yet, as we've been in a burn ban. But hopefully this weekend, work permitting" I'll get some good swing time. Keep up the great work, my brother.
Thank you for watching and leaving your awesome comment, Brother JZ! The poll is definitely an excellent, useful feature! I am hoping you can get out this weekend, my friend! Keep me posted and I appreciate you stopping by! -Dave
After 5 years what would be your review now have you had any problems with it had to put a new handle in your axe?? Is there any issues or problems that you would bring up 5 years later. Just wondering was it worth the money after 5 years it's not cheap tool. It's right around $230 for a woodcraft pack axe 🪓 and a sling/ sheet .
I just bought a Cold Steel Trail Boss budget axe. I'm waiting for it, as we speak. I like Council Tool, never personally owned one of their axes. What I like is the specs of the Trail Boss, decent 1055 carbon steel, 2 lb 9 oz axe head and 26'' inch hickory handle. I think it will be a decent kindling axe. Not to mention the price of $32 with rave reviews. I split two - three full face cord of wood a year for campfires with my Plumb Victory double bit and 3 1/2 lb single bit ironically made in Taiwan like the Trail Boss. I prefer American, Swedish, Canadian, German or Japanese made products. I'm just very carious about the Cold Steel Trail Boss.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment! Have you split any wood with the Trail Boss yet? Curious as to how its working out for you. Keep me posted. -Dave
Dave, yes I have used it three times. Really put it to the test. I split a lot of 10- 12'' rounds of semi- frozen balsam fir. Much larger than what that axe is intended for. It good to know what any axe will do in a pinch. I'm going to use it to split small rounds and kindling. I would highly recommend it. The Greenland pattern is beautiful, the grain orientation isn't good, but its solid, so far. There's drip marks on the axe head from the black enamel. The axe head is perfectly in line with the handle. Great fit, no gaps. Two circular steel wedges instead of one, which the older Trail Boss' had. The edge wasn't sharp, I just did some light filing to it. Great budget axe, thus far. I'm so pleased with it I ordered two more for my best friends.
Haha..you are going to love it, my friend! I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and leave your awesome comment! You take care and be safe, too! -Dave
Spectacular videos, ALL of them. Please stay active with your generous knowledge based videos. Is there an advantage to a wood buck saw over a metal tube bow saw in your opinion? Sorry to get off topic, but would value your input.
Thank you for the very kind, encouraging words! I really appreciate that! I would say the saw all depends on the blade quality, the length and how much space you have to cut with (from the blade to the frame). I like making wood buck saws in the forest, as some of the larger metal tube bow saw frames get tricky to carry out in the woods. -Dave
Say Heah, Yup, I brought my 24" Council Wood Craft Pack Axe with the heavy duty sheath and sling, my Agawa Canyon 21 Boreal Saw with the Crazy Horse Scabbard with a extra aggressive saw blade in the Scabbard. My new W. C. Custom's my Cold Steel Ultimate Hunter Folder in the Carpenter CTS-XHP and my Gerber Multi Tool. Ofcource I only pick and choose from this list when I leave our base camp for instance to scout a new area out. But our biggest problem is the Arctic Front that followed us down. Man, like right now, 12:49 a.m. Mon. 1st of Jan. 2018, it's - zero, too cold for this boy, hmmmmm mmmm mmmmmm, sure we sneak out for a little in front of where we're staying, a beautiful area, but only for a very short time. But inside we have everything needed to start off our New Year, too bad it's this cold. Oh, I brought some Delish Drew Estate Acid Legends, a Ammerato/Hazelnut a box of infused cigars, plus a few other cigars, all the steak, lobster, plus other eye candy food and drink. But only "IF" ("half of life") Oh well maybe next year, just joking, springs not too far in the distance, Dilly Dilly, Right.,,.p
Sounds like an excellent choice of gear and I am very familiar with the northeastern brutal cold over the past couple of weeks. Have fun and stay warm! -Dave
HighCarbonSteel Love Actually Dave that Spyderco Puukku is turning out to be a great Sloyd Knife and teams Great with my Flexcut. The set carves great indoors too, heh heh heh. Dilly Dilly.,,.p
No loosening and the handle itself is holding up really well, my friend! I few coats of BLO early and now every once in a while have this handle in great shape. Thank you for taking the time to watch! Great question! -Dave
The 24" handle is better for two arm use. More power in each swing. The 5" of extra handle doesn't weigh much and is worth carrying if you use your axe a lot.
Now that is a beautiful axe! And that shoulder sling is something else too! It's almost too beautiful to use, but it also looks like it does a fantastic job too. So where do you get such good handles? I have gone to several different stores and I usually find one good handle in 50 or worse. In fact, I've found substandard handles on axes costing $150+ like Wetterlings and Gransfors Bruks models.
Thank you for watching, my friend! Great to hear from you! I have always had tremendous luck when it comes to Council Tool axe handles! They are an excellent company with great people! -Dave
I am looking at this axe and a few others in the same mold. So many reviews and videos have people felling, bucking and splitting soft woods. I have a lot of downed and dry pin oak, hickory and sycamore in my area. I expect them all to cut fairly evenly but I am lost on which will split the best on these hardwoods. I am looking at the woodcraft axe, husky forest axe, council tool velvicut hudson bay and bad axe boys axe and of course the scandinavian forest axe. Any comments for me?
When I am in the forest, I tend to seek soft wood and my axes that I take into the woods work really well. Ligher weight, pack axes. However, at the homestead, when chopping and splitting good clean hardwood for the wood burning stove, I use different axes. My home axes are the Fiskars x27 splitting axe and the Council Tool Boys Axe. Excellent hardwood axes. Of the axes you mentioned, I think the Velvicut Bad Boys Axe would serve you well for your described tasks. Also, Council Tool sells and excellent splitting maul. Thank you for taking the time to stop by! -Dave
While the CT Boy's axe is outstanding, I personally think this one is worth the extra money. Although, you cannot go wrong with the CT Boy's axe. I especially like the 24" Boy's axe, a lot! -Dave
Thanks for the review. Since you also have used and reviewed the Council Hudson Bay axe (17-inch overall) how does it compare to the Woodcraft Pack Axe?
I do prefer the Woodcraft Pack axe, however, it's about $80-$100 more than the 17-inch Hudson Bay axe. I would say for the money, the Hudson Bay axe is very tough to beat. I love that axe! Thank you for watching and leaving your awesome question! -Dave
Dave, I have really enjoyed your channel for over a year. Gotta ask you one question that continues to perplex me... Why do I see so many of your axe videos where you are chopping fairly small diameter dead trees while they are on the dirt and then a moment later you edit in some bucking and splitting video where you have a large nearby log at your campsite which you film chopping and splitting against? Thanks.
Thank you for the kind words, David! I don't necessarily cut into the dirt, it's just some good bucking on the far side of the wood. It's mostly to mix it up and keep it entertaining. Shooting video of straight wood chopping isn't very exciting, IMHO, so I try to keep things moving and change up the pace. I appreciate you taking the time to stop by, my friend! -Dave
Thank you for watching! I am not sure of their warranty however their website does state that they stand behind everything they sell 100%. If there are any problems, just contact them. I hope this helps and I like your C64 avatar! -Dave
Yes, Council Tool's website, as well as many of their retailers do sell the original mask separately. They also sell the sheath upgrade, my friend! Great question and thank you for watching! -Dave
HighCarbonSteel Love thanks so much gonna go order me i havr been useing a peice of bike intertub cut in the middle and streach over the cutting edge for storage just something to protect it lol
Not long at all, my friend! To put a polish on the edge, I use several stages and grits of sandpaper with a drywall pad and then strop it. Starting to fade so I may have to do it again soon...good solid use will do that..haha! Thank you for watching and I would definitely call this axe an heirloom treasure! -Dave
Thank you for watching, A J! I appreciate the kind words, my friend! Lol...no, from October until July, I don't think it ever stops raining or snowing in western NYS! I have no choice but to embrace and make the most of it! -Dave
Great review and beautiful axe Dave! Thanks for the review! i'm going to have to look into getting this axe! BTW Dave, has anyone ever told you how much you resemble Johnny Depp?
Thank you for the kind words, David! I appreciate you stopping by, my friend! Yes, I have heard the Johnny Depp thing a few times in my life but it never gets old! Hopefully, one of his people will come across one of my videos and bring me in as a double or something..haha! -Dave
HighCarbonSteel Love Hahaha!! I'm sure being told that you look like Johnny Depp NEVER gets old! I also hope that one of his people discover you here on TH-cam! Just don't stop making videos! BTW, started following you on Instagram and FB
hey Dave I already have a axe.what are you trying to do to me.my girlfriend said I cant play with you anymore cause you make me spend my money 😃 ps im really considering this axe looks awesome thanks Dave 👍🙋
Sounds like something my girlfriend would say, too, hahaha! I think you would absolutely love this axe, my friend! Thank you for watching and all of your long-time support! -Dave
The Fiskar X-Series axes are amazing cutters & slitters with a lifetime free axe replacement if it breaks. But the Council Tool Woodcraft Pack Axe looks good for a longer lasting axe head & edge but come with the disadvantages the Fiskars was design to beat: - handle breakage - heavier axe due to wood handle - wood is not weatherproof like polymer - higher price these "traditional" axes *Tough chioice*
Well done Amigo. Yes it's a great ax. But I also know well, that it is being wielded by a master of the ax. And that's a happy partnership indeed! :) Question....are you still using the CT Velvicut Saddle Ax??
Thank you for the kind words, Charles! I really appreciate that, my friend! I am definitely still using the CT Velvicut Saddle axe and loving it! It's such an awesome axe! But, different axes for different purposes, huh? As long as they are all Council Tool, I am good...haha! Great to hear from you, my friend! -Dave
I just bought one of these after watching this video and I should have gotten a Gransfors SFA. It is dull as hell and the wood is dry and the handle is cracked where it’s seated in the head. I think I got a second or something? This is far from a premium axe. It came in yesterday, I just got an edge on it and I’m going to put some BLO on it and see if it fixes it. What a waste of money, so much for buying American..
I am so sorry to hear about that, Brian. Have you contacted Council Tool directly? If not, please do and let me know how it goes - counciltool.com/contact-us/ - email and/or phone. I am willing to bet that they will want to make it right for you, my friend. -Dave
HighCarbonSteel Love I think I got it lined out. After some edge work it's a razor and blo fixed the dried handle up. The cracks are just superficial and I'm probably being picky, I just expected zero issues at that price. You are right though, it's an amazing head design. Perfect camp and pack axe. Thanks for the information!
I am so glad to hear that, Brian! Thank you for the update, as I was concerned after your initial comment! Sounds like you did an excellent job on it and I agree - for that price, anything that isn't up to your standards can be disheartening. Keep me posted, my friend! -Dave
I'm a poor fella but I saved a long time to buy this axe for my bday and so far I love it the 24" size
Thanks for this video.
The fact that you are still pleased after one year of use says it all.
Thanks thumb ☝

Great ax I love it
I still got mine from Craig, by far my favorite to this day.
Nice review. Looks like a proper ax for sure

thanks, Dave have not been able to get mine yet but I am working on it!
You are going to love it, Steve! Keep me posted, my friend! -Dave
Easy to see why it's still your favorite axe Dave. Thanks for the video.
Definitely, Bill! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, my friend! Great to hear from you!
-Dave
Great axe, is a tool to carry for the every life.

I ordered one of these axes after your first video. they're awesome!!...keeps the videos coming. love your channel!
Thats great to hear, Logan, and I am very happy that you are enjoying the axe! I appreciate the kind, encouraging words and it's great to have you here, my friend! -Dave
Thank you for the update! I saw a lot of positive reviews of this axe when it first hit the market but haven't seen many long term reviews.
Just ordered one!
I like that axe and the way you knock on the canteen to let the coffee know it's time to drink it.
Thank you for watching, brother! Lol...mainly to settle the grounds but letting the coffee know its time to drink it works, too! -Dave
HighCarbonSteel Love what's your coffee you drink in the woods? You just Poor's the grounds straight in hot water then drink?
-Dave
Great looking axe, and awesome axemanship skills. You already know I'm a big knife guy, but I always envy axe skills.
Thank you for the kind words, my friend! Yes, you and your big Tops knives..haha! I appreciate you stopping by, Josh! -Dave
Hey Brother, I am very close to pulling the trigger on this axe...love what you do!
Now that is just pure art! Love It Dave!
Thank you for watching and leaving your very kind words, Christine! Great to hear from you, as always, my friend! Travel safe! -Dave
Excellent axe and info.!
Thank you for taking the time to stop by and leave your awesome comment! Great to hear from you, my friend! -Dave
-Dave
Nice demonstration of this great axe my friend. Thanks for sharing and ATB!
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice comment, Yves! Very nice to hear from you, my friend! -Dave
Great video! Thank you!👍
How does it do for splitting?
Thanks for the update on the axe, I'm thinking of getting one and appreciate your review.
Thank you for taking the time to stop by! You would love this axe! My absolute favorite!
Say Heah Dave, The Council 24" Wood Craft Pack Axe is still one of my Fav's. It shined again last weekend. Dilly Dilly.,,.p
Nice! That axe just continues to exceed expectations every single time I use it! -Dave
Dilly Dilly.,,.p
fantastic video beautiful axe
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice comment, my friend! It's the absolute best axe I have ever owned and used! -Dave
Haha..I should have figured the thumbnail would give it away but it's hard to hide my enthusiasm for this axe! -Dave
Dave, which of the three axes would you choose for camping use? The price is irrelevant to me. I wanted if you let me take advantage of your experience.
Council Tool Woodcraft Pack Axe
Gränsfors Bruk Scandinavian Forest Axe
Hults Bruk Forest Aby Axe
thanks, I really want the axe, the shoulder sheath would be great. guess have to buy one at a time, but thanks, you do good videos.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice comment, my friend! You would love this axe and shoulder sling/sheath! Best axe package I have ever owned! -Dave
You have a lovely way with the craft, brother.🔥
Thank you for the kind, encouraging words, brother! I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and leave your awesome comment! -Dave
Hi Dave I was wondering if if you could give some pointers on sharpening a flat ground axe,I'm worried I'll ruin the edge grind?Thank you so much for the information you share ,
Your pal, Tim
Thanks for these videos!
Thank you for watching the videos, my friend! It's great to have you here! -Dave
Another great video. Beautiful axe.
Thank you for the kind words, eric! The most beautiful and best axe I have ever had the pleasure of owning! -Dave

Gota get one!
Thank you, always enjoy your content.
Thank you for watching, Mark! I always enjoy having your here, my friend!
-Dave
Have you tried the Tuatahi Trapper axe?
Still love this video
I may purchase one
I am happy to hear that you enjoy the video, my friend! You would absolutely love this axe! Best I have ever owned! There is also a 19" version if you like that one, as well! -Dave
This axe is looks great, and 5160, first I've heard of it, how has no one else reviewed this axe? Or maybe I just missed it..
Looks like a great axe
Thank you for watching, Jeff! This is the absolute best axe I have ever owned and used! Very nice to hear from you, my friend! -Dave
You're an inspiring bro! Thanks for your vids
Thank you, my friend! I appreciate you taking the time to watch and leave your kind words! -Dave
Another great video Dave! The axe looks bullet proof and best part...made in the USA!
Great to hear from you, Jeff! Thank you for watching and leaving your kind words! You are exactly right about this axe, especially being USA made! Hope everything is going well for you, my friend! -Dave
awesome video sir!! thanks much for sharing your thoughts and blessings to you,!!
Thank you for the kind words, sir! Thank YOU for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice comment! -Dave
Where did you get the leather sleeve on the Axe?
Nice looking axe
Thank you for taking the time to stop by! I appreciate your awesome comment, my friend!
I subbed. Love your video and your enthusiasm for carbon steel.
Thank you, very much for the kind words and the sub, neil! It's great to have you here, my friend! -Dave
Okay, great. I'm off to the interwebs to buy another axe!
As always, awesome video brother! Take care, and be safe out there!
Dilly Dilly.,,.p
looks and cuts great , I do like the shape of the axe head !
atb john
You are exactly right, john, and the axe head is just awesome! Thank you for watching and leaving your awesome comment, my friend! -Dave
Over lots of use how is the handle holding up any loosening , wanting to buy one just asking for update ty
No loosening and the handle itself is holding up really well, my friend! I few coats of BLO early and now every once in a while have this handle in great shape. Thank you for taking the time to watch! Great question! -Dave
@@HighCarbonSteelLove ty so much for the reply
Very nice axe !
Thx for sharing
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your nice comment! I appreciate you stopping by! -Dave
Why the 24 inch handle vs. the 19 inch handle for a pack axe? I am on the line. why should I go for the 24 inch?
The 24" handle is better for two arm use. More power in each swing. The 5" of extra handle doesn't weigh much and is worth carrying if you use your axe a lot.
Where can I get your sweater?
Sweet Axe Brother! Thanks!
Thank you, my friend! It's one of my absolute favorites! Council Tool axes are just awesome! -Dave
Say Heah Dave, From 60° F today to 10" of snow by Sat. We might go out. I hope this time we'll be up one on the weather. Dilly Dilly.,,.p
Temp dropped about 45 degrees in 12 hours here today! Stay warm and thank you for watching! -Dave
Does anyone else feel reminded on Sheldon Cooper's try to smile ? Hahah ! 0:34 / 0:06
Haha...no need to try, as the forest and Council Tool axes just make me smile! -Dave
I love that ax
Thank you for watching, shawn! It's an absolute pleasure to use, for sure! -Dave
-Dave
At some point TH-cam decided to arbitrarily unsubscribe me from your channel. Just noticed and resubscribed my friend.
Thank you for re-subbing, my friend! Great to have you back! TH-cam is funny like that sometimes. Very nice to hear from you! -Dave
Pack axe or Hudson Bay?
I would still like to see pack axe vs council standard Boy's axe. Is the pack axe worth the extra money?
While the CT Boy's axe is outstanding, I personally think this one is worth the extra money. Although, you cannot go wrong with the CT Boy's axe. I especially like the 24" Boy's axe, a lot! -Dave
What do you think makes the pack axe preform better?
-Dave
Dave, you are so appreciated. And your reply was wonderful! Best wishes.
Do you happen to know what their warranty policy is on their axes?
Thank you for watching! I am not sure of their warranty however their website does state that they stand behind everything they sell 100%. If there are any problems, just contact them. I hope this helps and I like your C64 avatar! -Dave
great video just found your channel and I'm subscribing.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your kind words! I really appreciate the sub! It's great to have you here! -Dave
do they sell the sheaths seprate i traded for one but never reseved the sheath
Yes, Council Tool's website, as well as many of their retailers do sell the original mask separately. They also sell the sheath upgrade, my friend! Great question and thank you for watching! -Dave
HighCarbonSteel Love thanks so much gonna go order me i havr been useing a peice of bike intertub cut in the middle and streach over the cutting edge for storage just something to protect it lol
Great video and ax.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your nice comment, Nick! This axe is great! -Dave
no prob always a pleasure my friend 👍ps it really looks like a great axe
It's a phenomenal axe, my friend! Great to talk with you! -Dave
very nice edge how long did it take
looks like an heirloom treasure
Not long at all, my friend! To put a polish on the edge, I use several stages and grits of sandpaper with a drywall pad and then strop it. Starting to fade so I may have to do it again soon...good solid use will do that..haha! Thank you for watching and I would definitely call this axe an heirloom treasure! -Dave
I want that axe ...
Blessings
Great review after a really long test period. Oh by the way does it ever stop raining in your area???? As always great video.
Thank you for watching, A J! I appreciate the kind words, my friend! Lol...no, from October until July, I don't think it ever stops raining or snowing in western NYS! I have no choice but to embrace and make the most of it! -Dave
Awsome
how does this axe compare to a gransfors?
I have never used a GB axe but I think this one would compare favorably over any axe in it's weight class. Thank you for watching!
BTW, started following you on Instagram and FB
nice axe buddy
Thank you for watching, my friend! I appreciate you stopping by! -Dave
hey Dave I already have a axe.what are you trying to do to me.my girlfriend said I cant play with you anymore cause you make me spend my money 😃 ps im really considering this axe looks awesome thanks Dave 👍🙋
But the Council Tool Woodcraft Pack Axe looks good for a longer lasting axe head & edge but come with the disadvantages the Fiskars was design to beat:
- handle breakage
- heavier axe due to wood handle
- wood is not weatherproof like polymer
- higher price these "traditional" axes
*Tough chioice*
-Dave
With a Grin like that, ur Burnin more than those twigs 😁
I like stainless steel also
Nothing wrong with that, my friend! Thank you for watching! -Dave
