@Vinny Venom the main way is looking at the card and comparing them to cards you’ve pulled from a pack. Any holos or textured cards aren’t usually done right (textured cards missing texture usually happens, foils looking muddled), seeing if the font is correct (size and font style), the size of the card as well. Some of the fakes have been pretty convincing lately and these are just some of the things we have to look for when dealing with cards. Generally if you have a question on if a card is fake or not, your lgs shouldn’t have a problem looking at the card real quick. When buying I would generally avoid buying singles from Amazon because a lot of fakes go through there. And look up what people are selling the cards on TCG heavy sights like TCGplayer to get an idea what the card is going for, because if a really expensive card is being sold super cheap, I’d avoid it.

I agree, you can't totally stop the manufacturer of fake products but at the same time but equallly we regulate retailers for a reason and I think it's totally unacceptable that someone can go to the website of a major retailer operating in their country, search for a product and be tricked into buying from some scammer in the far east. And it's even more unacceptable when the scammer and the retailer have ties to each other that go beyond the scammer just signing up for a regular seller account on said retailers website. The difficult but IMO is how to craft a regulation to prevent companies from blurring the line between retailer and marketplace sites, without killing off western-based marketplace sites entirely (which IMO would be a cure worse than the disease).

Thank you so much for this Pat! The Pokemon Company is also not processing any returns for multiple people despite them continuing to push new product out and having world championships. This is very disheartening. I have been in contact with the company multiple times and they 'have no answer' as to when their return center will open. Very disappointed in the way that the Pokemon Company has been treating their customers.
There needs to be an update to scam protections, whether it’s Pokemon or car warranties. People are getting scammed, employees in customer service who can’t fix it get yelled at (not always but still way too much), and nothing is getting fixed because the big corps won’t bother to fix the issues. Company’s can only prevent so much, but if they have slip ups they need to have a reliable and efficient way to fix it. That means clear cut instructions for customers that the company sticks to. If a scam happens, they need to prevent future ones from occurring and refund the customer. Ideally the scammer would foot the bill, but in the case that can’t happen the company responsible for the fake product being sold should be able to pay for a fake booster box. If they are frustrated by that then they can take it up with all the customers who were scammed without any refund partial or otherwise.
I found a Booster at target on the shelf and was fusion strike for like 96$ on clearance 😳 well they were fake too and I had to threaten my way into a refund. Not proud but they wanted me to eat that 100 when they apparently made a mistake and don't even sell those on the floor! That was apart of their reasoning for why it seemed weird and scammy to them. As I said, not proud but got the job done
Thank you for posting this. We just uploaded a video today on our channel showing some of Our cards and we found out from the wonder Pokémon Family that our cards were fake. This was incredibly disappointing to our children but it is what it is. We kept our video up in hopes it will help others spotting fakes.
These videos and the care that you show to our community is so completely awe inspiring and honourable, you’d hope these big companies would show even a small iota of the same standards and values as well. I’m curious though, in U.K. we have something called trading standards where we can report people scamming and trading in fakes and they investigate/work to prosecute and shut down these individuals or businesses.
Yeah, I ordered Darkness Ablaze last year for 120 through Walmart and it was a fake booster box. Never refunded. Shoulda done a video on it. Amazing content as always sir. Hope you have been well.
I loved that you talked about this issue, I applaud you. It’s getting really bad with all these people scamming us. If the purchase is too good to be true, it’s probably a scam. 👎🏻
Maybe for the same reason why every American companies don’t bothering sueing rip off Chinese Companies, IP & tech. Chinas Govt allows rip off and wnt let outside companies to come after its own.
The Culture in China doesn’t see copying, stealing and/or ripping off of an IP/Ideas as immoral nor is it seen as a negative act. It’s Government also allows it.😑
Thanks for the video. Unfortunately knock offs have been around since the beginning of time. Even if every collector could see the video the problem would continue. There's grandmas, kids and unfortunately those people who just want to believe they found a good deal. I still remember my mom telling me someone from work had a Babe Ruth card for sale for $100. I think I was 14 and I told her it was probably a scam. I always believe that if something sounds too good stay a way it. We need to teach our kids to be better buyers. Question the advertisements they see. Look for good deals. Look at the place selling it. Research when in doubt.
Okay, so earlier today, I was on Aliexpress with one of my friends looking for some cheap proxies and we came across that Hidden Fates box and we were like “what the hell is this?”
Need to get the word out. I would be so destroyed if I ever bought anything for my kids and they were not real. These People in the world unfortunately are only about the money and not the hobby. Excellent video my guy!
This will never stop and Pokemon Company will never care Pat. My brother has a card shop /official Pokemon Store here in germany, with Pokemon Officials comming there once half a year to check on the competitive scene and how it can be improved. A store nearby sells those fake cards. My brother asked, why they don't do anything about it and they said "why would we? Anyone who plays this game will immediately see that those are fake". Like wtf. When people do a Fan-Romhack for free, Nintendo / Pokemon Company sues their asses up (Pokemon Uranium). But if people next door to your official Pokemon Store sell fake cards, everything is alright. I feel like these fake card manufacturers are paying Pokemon or something. Otherwise this just makes no sense.
If a store knowingly sells counterfeit products that is really an issue for the local law enforcement. Pokemon can't do a whole lot about a rogue store especially if they don't have an account with them.
Alot of the scams on ebay and lower priced sealed packs and mystery packs all seem to come from one guy. I got a sealed rocket pack and it was fake. Was able to get a refund.
I do not want these cards to disappear... They have a place. I just want them labelled properly. These are fake cards for in home practice play without breaking you wallet. Pokemon has got too expensive for the normal person. I want to play with family and friends using these fake cards because I will never be able to afford the real ones.
This literally happened to my nephew my stepmom bought him a booster box for $30 off line thinking it was real then when he got it he was so excited to open it with me and I had to break the news that it was fake my stepmom was upset with me for telling him it was fake but I couldn’t let him think the cards were real he pulled six Pikachu Vmax is and was so excited until I had to tell them they were fake
I collected pokemon cards for years, (as a child), only to find out like half of my collections value was from fake cards someone had swapped out at a target. I somehow never managed to notice the misspellings and glossy backs.
I'm so glad you're exposing the fake bs..... I got one from the local convenience store down the road from me and opened it and it was fake as hell, didn't have a code card in it at all and one of the cards was clearly missing out of it bc it didn't come with the right number in it, I went back and asked the owner if they knew anything about it and if it was an employee that went through the trouble of resealing them after taking the code cards and big hits out or it was from whereever they ordered it from selling fake cards and never got an answer and i tried to figure out more bc i felt like it was a bigger thing than just being scammed out of a card or two or out of every pack.....
Aaaaand this is exactly why I don't buy my Yu-Gi-Oh cards in stores like Target or Walmart because yes, this is also a huge issue too. It's literally became a meme in the YGO community that some of these stores will sell counterfeits or "Big box bundles" that are just common/Holo cards that's waaay less then the value of the product. You can grab most of the cards that would be in that box for cents, not even a dollar in most cases If there's no local card shop near you folks don't be afraid to check TCGplayer. At least if the cards fake you get money back... Edit: Spelling.
I think fake pokemon cards are the absolute worst if people actually play it off as they are real but that 2 dollar evolutions box is actually kind of acceptable for people that dont have alot of money and just want to feel that feeling when you open a pokemon booster box
If all you care about is playing with your friends, it's a FANTASTIC deal. It's only an issue when you start getting into things like Tournaments and Trading.
Subscribed as this is an extremely concerning phenomenon. No reputable company should be selling or partnering with sellers who aren’t 100% upfront about something being fake when selling it. At minimum it is misleading or dishonest, and at maximum it is outright fraud, malevolence, and greed. Aliexpress is obviously filled with knockoffs and it doesn’t try to pretend that they are real, after all, as the maxim goes, if it’s too good to be true, it probably is.
Lmao that actually happened to me. The seller thought the evolutions box was real and I didn't look close at the picture. He said he accidentally offered me a refund because "its real, I opened a pack". I showed him real evolutions and he finally agreed they were fake.
Do not subscribe to legal eagle as he often just gives generalization of the law that do no pan out, like here. Section 230 protections are not limitless and require providers to remove material illegal on a federal level, such as in copyright infringement cases.
very dificult to deal with all of this... as you show the numbers... who is doing it, don't care about this... only care the money. Is sad... soo sad. And you are right, to fight together in all the lines to stop to sell fake products like that
I buy fake Pokémon cards intentionally sometimes if they’re really cheap and obvious fakes. They honestly look rlly funny and they’re all unique I guess.
Thank you for doing the work and putting this out there! If it weren't for amazing people like you, I would have too fell for the "steals and deals 🙄" that are actually scams. I didn't realize, until recently, how bad it is. Sadly, I'm so paranoid about fake cards or RESEALED packs (another issue out there 😣😰), I even question legit companies and local small businesses. It makes my heart sad to know that people actually TRY to take advantage of others to make a buck. 💔 I don't know if there will ever be a day that we can say the scams are stopped. When we try to have something to help us determine that the cards are legit, like when ripping a card and seeing that black in the middle, scammers are in the shadows trying to figure out how to make the fake cards have it too. Let's just keep raising awareness to the situations and educating others on determining if their cards are legit. Keep up the good work DPM. We love you and your sense of humor! 💖👍😄
Can we discuss the other huge reason people resort to buying these things online? Some of the time it happens because Scalpers take all the product off shelves and sell in marketplaces for double or triple the price!! Why would a parent spend more like that for a 7 or 8 y.o kid when a lot of the time they don't appreciate it (unless they have cool parents who also collect and take care and show them how to appreciate the cards lol) My local hobby shop sells at scalper prices when i asked why cause me driving 2 hrs (adding cost of fuel) to get cards at price was cheaper than me buying locally and the shop owner said "People will buy it for that price though." Like it's become such a shitty thing where it's all about how much you can make off it instead of the enjoyment of pokemon :( Makes me hella sad. I order from the shop 2 hrs away and get friends to pick up my orders but so many times I've seen kids told they can't get cards cause scalpers which takes away from the awesome experience.
You know its interesting that websites are found not liable for things people post whether fake, illegal, whatever yet the creator of the marketplace “The Silk Road” is serving a life sentence with no chance of Parole🤔
it is like trying to take down those scam call center in Mark Rober and the other youtuber channel.. Think it is easier to be a rocket science engineer than taking anyone of them down. Spreading awareness is the key here. letting the people around you know that there are fake product by sharing this video and the previous one so they will not fall for it if they decide to get some for you.
Yeah i only see how they are bad when they are passed off as the real thing if people just want to play the card game and not collect i don't see how they are bad.
Great videos! Already subscribed to your lawyer friend I’ve seen his videos before pertaining to NFTs (recommend, it’s great). Now subscribing to you! I only buy Pokémon cards from trusted retailers. Not on Amazon, not on Walmart. I don’t trust them! Thanks for bringing this to everyone’s attention because those who are not familiar with this problem wouldn’t know.
Good and informative. Nintendo only worries and takes down people posting digital vids or mods of Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon. with real and free content or homebrew stuff that's just for fun and in the end makes almost no money, who cares about the card market getting ruined, and scammers getting rich.😭

This is very disheartening. I have been in contact with the company multiple times and they 'have no answer' as to when their return center will open. Very disappointed in the way that the Pokemon Company has been treating their customers.
can't say one can fearly blame them either though, if they took the time answer there customers, they wouldn't get much done.
Glad you made this video, same thing happened to me off Walmart back in March
Now I know not to buy a Pokémon cards from Walmart
Probably shouldn't buy anything from Walmart, but that's just one man's opinion.
We just uploaded a video today on our channel showing some of
Our cards and we found out from the wonder Pokémon Family that our cards were fake. This was incredibly disappointing to our children but it is what it is. We kept our video up in hopes it will help others spotting fakes.
These videos and the care that you show to our community is so completely awe inspiring and honourable, you’d hope these big companies would show even a small iota of the same standards and values as well.
I’m curious though, in U.K. we have something called trading standards where we can report people scamming and trading in fakes and they investigate/work to prosecute and shut down these individuals or businesses.
thanks for digging deep and going the distance uncover this scam. much appreciated
These are the sort of packs the flea market people sell for a dollar a pack. My child's grandmother got a few from the trader's world.
Wow I’ve been watching and been hooked on this channel for 5 months now.
I’m glad your trying to solve scamming Pat! Your such a wonderful asset to the company and we are lucky to have you! 😊
Lets gooooo! Got scammed before. 100% behind you!
Outstanding work Pat. Pokemon themselves are supposed to be highly protective of their brand/trademark. Why aren't they doing more ?
Maybe for the same reason why every American companies don’t bothering sueing rip off Chinese Companies, IP & tech. Chinas Govt allows rip off and wnt let outside companies to come after its own.
They're too busy banning pokemon fan games to target ACTUAL copyright infringement.
Such a shame this happens. Great video though. Your production is ace. Keep it up.
The Culture in China doesn’t see copying, stealing and/or ripping off of an IP/Ideas as immoral nor is it seen as a negative act. It’s Government also allows it.😑
go figure that covid 19 wasn't copied by them.
Well China makes most of the things you use everyday
Thank you for letting everyone know about these scams. GREAT video!!!!
Thank you for letting the Pokémon community know of this. I don’t think I’ll be getting Walmart cards ever again!
I’m subscribing to this channel just for doing what he’s doing for us. ❤
I think you’re right Walmart showed stop selling fake Pokémon cards
He just provides quality informative and fun content. That 250k is On the way probably by the end of the weekend. Love this
This will never stop and Pokemon Company will never care Pat.
This is why I tell every parent that shops with me safe places to buy pokemon cards from and were they are most likely to get scammed from.
You can grab most of the cards that would be in that box for cents, not even a dollar in most cases
If there's no local card shop near you folks don't be afraid to check TCGplayer. At least if the cards fake you get money back...
Edit: Spelling.
thanks for doing this!!! the scams need to stop!! so cool your doing this
I think fake pokemon cards are the absolute worst if people actually play it off as they are real but that 2 dollar evolutions box is actually kind of acceptable for people that dont have alot of money and just want to feel that feeling when you open a pokemon booster box
Because of your first video I knew not to buy pokemon cards off of Walmart especially the website. Thanks Pat!
They dont care about us unless its a syrup bottle that could offend someone but ripping you off is still ok
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 people have become so pathetic! Its just ridiculous!
It's called doing research. Never bother buying from these third party sites
Thank you for sacrificing your time and efforts! Much respect to you!
Thank you for being someone that actually TRIES to solve this issue, instead of just complaining!! What a chad you are! 😩❣️❣️
just watched this today & went to check out walmart website after. 9 pages of fake cards up on site currently. Thank you for making real content.
Pat, you are thr GOAT for trying to help clear up the market! Thank you for using your platform for thr community.
Well....At least it only pops up when you search for that specific thing...
POV wallmart: okey we will deal whit it. What they do(change the name)
My son has just started collecting, we love your channel, you're teaching us what we need to know! Your passion and knowledge keep us coming back!
0:56 DAMN IT GOT PERSONAL🤣🤣🤣🤣😂
I can't believe that this is still happening!!! Thank you for bringing attention to this!!!
You know its interesting that websites are found not liable for things people post whether fake, illegal, whatever yet the creator of the marketplace “The Silk Road” is serving a life sentence with no chance of Parole🤔
Whoa, AMAZING collab Pat! Thank you for standing up for us little people just trying to scratch that itch for shiny cardboard.
I have no words.. I hate the fact the people think it’s okay to sell fake items. Thank you pat for doing your best for the community
Great job getting LegalEagle collaboration!
Big fan of Legal Eagle, it was cool to see him chime in on this!
it is like trying to take down those scam call center in Mark Rober and the other youtuber channel.. Think it is easier to be a rocket science engineer than taking anyone of them down.
Spreading awareness is the key here. letting the people around you know that there are fake product by sharing this video and the previous one so they will not fall for it if they decide to get some for you.
Woah, was not expecting a cameo from LegalEagle!
That faker than when my 1st girlfriend told me she loved me hit way too close to home 😂😂😂
I think I speak for most of by saying Thank you for all your trying to do!
I become more and more ashamed of working at Walmart with every day that passes.. lol
Ur right it’s a bad idea business is business but being loyal makes business going
I wasn't expecting to see LegalEagle on a Pokemon card channel lol. Turns out this is a great collab!
I found out a couple weeks ago that half of my collection is fake and I had wasted a lot of my allowance on fake Pokémon cards
Yeah i only see how they are bad when they are passed off as the real thing if people just want to play the card game and not collect i don't see how they are bad.
Huge like!
Your efforts in making this community safer are greatly appreciated!
95% percent of buyers don’t know how to play Pokémon cards.
thank you for making this video so i dont get scamed you and pokerev are the best
Wow thats nice
Great videos! Already subscribed to your lawyer friend I’ve seen his videos before pertaining to NFTs (recommend, it’s great). Now subscribing to you!
I only buy Pokémon cards from trusted retailers. Not on Amazon, not on Walmart. I don’t trust them!
Thanks for bringing this to everyone’s attention because those who are not familiar with this problem wouldn’t know.
Right! Need to stop these scammers!
How are you growing so quickly! You already on 250k?!!
