Loved your video. My descent is from Chios and as a kid I spend all my summers vacations there. Please allow me a small correction, the mastic trees (bushes) can only be cultivated in the southern part of the island.
Beautiful video. You definitely have to return. Just 4 days Chios is really far too little to see all the beauties. After 22x a holiday in Chios I still discover new and surprising places.
Never heard of the mastic tree and its sap! Each city had it's own flare; so quite and pristine. Quite the maze of streets to explore and get lost in ! Thank You for another Beautiful video.
Thank you! I know, we hadn't heard of mastic trees either, yet it's so popular here and their culture is based around it! Can't wait to return to Chios one day 😀
I love your series. I went to Chios for my honeymoon back in 1992. Still in love with it's magic. See pictures in Google pictures for Campos, the place that you didn't show us competely. I will say it once more, every island is unique in beauties, don't be surprised.
Cookery classes are always fun, but if you learn how to Greek food it will be even more interesting. The end results look delicious. The 'Dolmades' have such a special and lovely taste, thanks for remembering us how much we love Greek food. ;-)
The Mastic trees that bleed the sap or resin only occurs in the southern part of the island. Though the trees are grown throughout the world, the resin only bleeds in the southern part of the island and nowhere else on the planet.
As a follow up, the beautiful story behind the bleeding of the Mastic Trees is linked to Saint Isidore, a Martyr who lived during the 3rd Century AD in Chios. He was a Christian who led a life of temperance and abstinence and shunned all pagan customs. As a Roman soldier it was mandatory to worship Roman pagan gods. When he refused, word spread and under the Roman emperor Decius, Saint Isidore suffered great torture for our Christian faith. He was tied to a horse and was dragged over the dirt roads of the southern villages of Chios. Where Saint Isidore turned to look, tears rolled down his face and the trees wept with this beautiful Saint.
Joey did you go? I had the same trip about 6 years ago and got to see my grandparents village. Everything came to life for me. Meeting relatives was just awesome.
Katouli A I did! Was a life changing experience. I wasn’t able to find any distant relatives but what was nice to be in the town my family comes from. They were from the port town.

Holy moly, that street you drove down was narrow! It was interesting to learn about mastic; hadn't heard of it before. Was it minty?
Yes! So many narrow lanes - we mostly walked ;) It's not minty, but it's a lot like pine!
Interesting! Wouldn't mind trying those cocktails! Haha
I was from black stone beach(mabros gialos) where was C. Columbus origin.
Where is the mastic trees?

Looks like they have had enough of the culture of peace now though.
