That's because the OT rules were changed 3 years ago. The new rules have teams going for two after a TD in the 2nd OT instead of the third OT. If a 3rd OT is needed (and a 4th OT after that), teams alternate running 2-point plays instead of regular plays from the 25-yard line. The previous rule required 2-point plays beginning in the 5th OT - THAT rule was changed after 2018 when LSU and Texas A&M played for 7 OT's in a 5 1/2 hour slug fest. I personally hate the current 2-pt OT system mainly because teams don't have that many 2-pt plays in their playbooks.
I bet on SJSU right at the start of the game as a pick’em. I honestly am not even upset about the outcome. Both teams played their hearts out, and over all it was a great game.
You never know what the best bowl game of the year is gonna be. This year, it was this game. In 2018, it was the national title game where Alabama, down 23-20 in overtime and facing a 2nd and 26, threw a 41-yard walk-off touchdown pass. In 2009 it was the Humanitarian Bowl where with the score tied at 35 and a minute left, Bowling Green threw a 51-yard touchdown pass on 3rd and 11 to go up 42-35, only to see Idaho throw a 16-yard TD pass with 4 seconds left, go for 2, and get it to win 43-42 over the stunned Falcons. That's why I watch ALL of the bowl games. I was watching this live and I didn't expect 5 OT's after the guy doinked in the FG at the end of regulation...
San Jose State lost the game when the coaching staff handed the ball off out of shotgun on 3rd and 1 with 1:40 left and USF out of timeouts. Any serious coach would have had his QB under center to hand the ball off to a FB or RB. Two plays to get 1 yard My money was on USF, and I know I got extremely lucky due to SJSU's offensive playcalling.
The QB was running a read option on that play which can't be done under center. If the QB sees the LB crashing the gap where the RB would go, he pulls it and runs for the 1st down. However when he handed the ball off, the QB thought the LB was staying back when he ran a delayed blitz instead which blew up the play.
@@Joel91839it shouldn’t be if you have proper risk management and aren’t betting like a degenerate. Any bet you place, you should be able to place it 3 times over and not care. For example: That $27.5k bet, if dude doesn’t have $82.5k to bet that he wouldn’t care if he lost it the next second, he’s betting like a degen.. Then you get huge sweats, emotional, and all over something where the players are millionaires, even in college at this point with NIL.
That holding call on San Jose State @5:57 sure looked like a pancake block. SJSU center #75 Harbert manhandled South Florida defensive tackle #97 Grant by relentlessly driving his feet which culminated in Harbet smashing Grant into the ground. This shouldn't be considering a hold--as holding is done out of weakness, not strength. Harbert totally dominated Grant on that play with his well-executed and powerful blocking technique. It's a pity the refs reversed SJSU QB Eget's rushing TD because of their poor call.
I absolutely agree with you and I had no dog in this fight. Aside from that, great game to watch. I truly appreciated that both of these teams absolutely showed up to play!
What a choke job by SJS. Less than 2 minutes left in regulation, 3rd and 1, South Florida out of timeouts. All they needed was one yard to win the game and they couldn't do it. Had to punt, gave up the game-tying FG, lost in overtime. They should be humiliated they couldn't rise to the occasion and get the job done. Good teams do it, they CHOKED.
It mystifies me how teams do not go for 2 when they get the ball 2nd in an overtime. The rules state you have to go for 2 in the 2nd overtime. Why wait? Go for 2 in the 1st overtime. Get it done.
No bowl game in the last 25 years has gone to 4+ OT 🤯

I'm at you but it's so much better than the NFL rules their the coin toss decided it mostly
Stokes monster 72yd punt in regulation saved that game lets see some punter love
Isaac Punts will have it up soon, I'm sure.
Best Bowl Game I've seen in a long time, incredible!
More exciting than any of the CFP games last week.
Who would have thought the most entertaining bowl game of the season so far would have been USF against San Jose State
I bet on SJSU right at the start of the game as a pick’em. I honestly am not even upset about the outcome. Both teams played their hearts out, and over all it was a great game.
I bet on USF when I heard brown was going to play. I was pissed when he didn’t, but Archie came to play. What a game.
Maybe your woke volleyball team will win

Great game! “The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat..”
I had a $27,500 bet on South Florida. I was pretty upset towards the end of the game. We finally finished
Congrats. That was a huge sweattt

This 5th OT hasn’t happened over the last 25 years
it happened 3 years ago, even more OT actually
@@Samir-rd8xp It's never happened before IN A BOWL GAME. The previous record was 3.
(In the regular season, the record is 9 OTs.)

I had 500$ on USF money line. I almost died 13 different times
I had 500€ (Euros cuz i live in Europe) on USF Moneyline, so I can relate😅

Awesome to see these kids caring a little more about bowl games again.

So since when does the overtime rule state when it goes into sudden death the stats don’t count towards receptions and yards ?
That’s wild. I didn’t know that.
