How to embroider onto knitwear

- Learn how to embroider onto your knitwear using a very simple chain stitch. You can apply this method to your handmade items, as well as onto any sweater or clothing you have bought. Who knows where this new skill could lead you?! For knitwear I recommend using yarn. Be mindful of washing instructions as any yarn with wool could shrink or felt. Like wise you could use embroidery thread to work the chain stitch to embellish the yoke and cuffs of linen or cotton tops.
There is no end to the application of embroidery and this simple chain stitch is a classic. With only a few variations of the technique you can make the Lazy Daisy stitch, Feather Stitch, Button Hole Stitch... and so much more.

Hi Samira, thank you. The gloves are crocheted using Waistcoat Stitch so there's no need to cast off.

I love this. Embroidery on anything looks beautiful. I want smaller flowers for a toddler item. Is it the same process or do you recommend another method for making a mini flower? Thank you for the video and for taking the time out of your day to answer any questions. :)
This embroidery tutorial is the same for any flower, big or small. Just adjust the length of the petals. It actually tends to work better on a smaller scale. Enjoy!

Is this method of securing the yarn secure enough for a garment that will be going through the wash?
Thanks Emily, I would say yes as the yarn I'm using here is wool and would tend to felt a little. For silkier yarns or for a garment that would be getting a vigorous wash in the machine, you could give it another pass. Thanks for your question

do you have one for a toadstool? i made a fingerless glove and want to embroider one onto it just like you did with the flower. can i use the same technique that you used in this video just try to adapt it to the glove? i need some help. thanks.
Hello! A toadstool sounds lovely. Im sorry I don't have an embroidery tutorial for toadstools, but I think I would use back stitches to form the overall shape, and then long stitches for the vents underneath.
