    John, would it not be better to photograph the impression first without the scale, to avoid accusations of contamination of for additional evidentiary materials being covered, prior to adding the scale?

    Is there a good book or training manual for purchase that covers crime photography and suggested camera settings evidence scene investigation . A book that covers much of what you have discussed here in this video. Thank You

      The answer to this question is a long and detailed one. There are many ways to develop latent fingerprints, and several different ways to photograph, depending on the processing method. Some developed impressions can be photographed using white light, while some may require Alternate Light Source. The common elements are to "fill the frame" with the impression and enough of a forensic scale to show dimension, use a low ISO and high f/stop, shoot in RAW (best practice) or TIFF. Beyond that information, there are many variations.
