  • On Tuesday 15/10/1985, we spent some time at the Perth and Maddington Railway Stations in West Australia to watch some of the passing passenger trains (mainly suburban commuter trains).
    This video clip captured snippets of this activity.

    The ADK and ADL trains ended up in Auckland, NZ in the early to mid 90's. Love the sound of the ADK sets with the outer brake discs. they served there till around 2010 in between mixed diesel DC hauled push pull trains. Since 2015 all is electric now.

      I actually drove both these car sets. The ADK was my favorite, braking with new discs fitted was awesome. ADL not so much.

    As someone who has lived their whole life with electric trains in Perth it's nice to see a video like this which really does show how times have changed. I always suspected that the big roof over the whole structure was a retrofit and this video shows that it was not always there. Thanks!

    Judging buy the shape and sound of the bells on the Level crossing at Madington station I think they might be teardrop bells ( most likely mekenzi and Holland). They hardly use those any more! Good film.

    OMG I remember these thigs well, i was there before electrification, the ADKs ADLs ADGs wow so many memories...thanks

    • @itchyvet
      @itchyvet 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      ADG's ? WOW, what can I say, some were fitted with new Mercedes engines and as long as the gear box didn't overheat, (still original ) they went like a rocket. Soon as summer came and peak period, the gear boxes would drop out due to over heating and you'd only have one engine, loosing time just crawling along.

      Spot on. Once the guard was removed, it was like highschool when the teacher left the classroom. Consider these were adults not kids. Pathetic behaviour from many people. Really opened my eyes to the degradation of our society.

    I think if you go to Midland they have one of those old railcars like the ones in the vid hanging around. Then again they've most likely moved it.

    Wow , thanks heaps mate , we moved to Perth in 1984 & now live in Armadale ( since 2001 ) & how things have changed with time as I recall riding these trains back then but it's getting a bit "boring" on the metro system these days with nothing but the "A" series trains on the Armadale & Freo lines with the "B" series on the Currumbine to Mandurah lines as there's no "variety" for us rail nuts to enjoy anymore unlike what's in your videos.

      +michael tunbridge The orange trains are made up of ADG (motor) and ADA (Trailer). Typically ADG on the ends with an ADA in the middle.

      +Cameron Brown which one are the Adls i thought it was the one the left sitting at station it looked just like it. we still got them.

    • @cameronbrown7925

      +Emmanuel Habtegabre Sorry for taking a year to reply, but the ADL/ADC is the 2-car set pulling out of Perth Station in a cloud of blue smoke @ 2:55 (ADL is the smoky power car)If I recall correctly, the ADL/ADC cars were airconditioned, but none of the others were, hence all the windows and doors more or less permanently open!
      The ADG was particularly thrilling when one's face was hanging out of the window and another ADG flashed past in the other direction!
