It's better than being homeless. Sadly, more and more people are being priced out of the rental market completely. But, I would rather buy a condo than live on a house boat. As she doesn't own the dock space or mooring space, the harbor master can evict all the houseboats if they have other plans for the dock. That's the downside. Which makes it very similar to renting. You are at the mercy of the landlord that owns the dock.
It's a really worrying trend, but what's worse is that most people are closing their eyes to reality. Life in this country has become unaffordable due to politics. Now people have to live on boats and in "tiny houses" - of course, this is bitter and a real shame in the richest country in the world, but you should talk about it. In our society, there should be living space for everyone.

I am happy for her, she looks happy
Is it scary when it's stormy weather?
I lived in toronto the prices right now here is crazy especially housing, grocery and many more.
Only 1 person in Ottawa to blame, and he wears fancy socks
Mooring fees are a killer. Rather like throw this much money at a mortgage rather than wasting them forever... 💯
The mooring fee is almost like paying property taxes. In terms of "wasting," our government definitely doesnt waste that tax money. 🤣
$10k a year is still cheaper than buying a house in TO lol
Aren't they like property taxes?
condo fees can be similar too

its beautiful, cozy, multifunction house
See that's the things I think of especially storms and flooding
Her location, is very protected, from storms. Re-watch, and notice the large berm, on the land side, of her houseboat. Google Earth, is very informative.
It would take the biblical flood to raise the level of Lake Ontario.
Large tornadoes are the only thing to worry about.
Very beautiful!
wonder how cold it is in the winter
