The drummer in the red shirt is one of my college professors. No joke, he's genuinely the most down to earth person, and he teaches hand drumming. And yes, he can still play this song. He just does it on the hand drum now instead of a drum set.
Pitt?
when i saw rusted root in the late 90s it was all hand drums
What does he teach?!

They better have 20 different endings in the new Life is Strange remastered. Max and Chloe will return in 2021. hmmmm tell you to ruuuuuun, I would like to hold my 'Max'
The flute player is the unsung hero of the song
That looks like an Irish tin whistle more than a flute.
Agreed 100%

You know a band is good when their live performance is better than their studio version😉
nah. your band sucks when they only have 1 song most people would recognize …maybe

Does this song make anyone else feel happy inside!?? 😊

This is actually the song i sing to get me in a better mood
I know the lyrics say he’s singing “you know what they say about the young”
But all I hear is “bubbdy say bubbdy yum”
Lol 😂... Same
that's because those lyrics are made up by somebody with bad ears and he is literally saying bobidee say bobidee yum
He definitely doesn't say it you're right haha. The lyrics are BS 🤣
Dont dont get about the eé he does after 🤣🤣🤣
I read on another video that he sings in doctors handwriting and I can't think of a better way to explain it.
Man...this dude can really sing. Sounds every bit as good as the studio version.
Truly incredible voice.
He sings well but do you guys find it hard to understand him at times
@@kalebvaldez2404 Yes! I have listened to this song for years. It wasn't until I read the captions that I learned the words. (I sang along anyway, haha)

30 years old and absolutely true
Didn’t expect this to be great because it was live but have to have to say it’s better than the studio version
for me this version is better than studio version
They were a live band for sure and as a result always better live than in the studio. They opened for the Grateful Dead at one point, which you don't do unless you have the live chops.
You don’t get that many songs now adays that sound better live than their studio version, such pure voices.
I feel like this song is about healing/holding your inner child. Whatever it’s about- it brings me to tears and simultaneously gives me great joy.

A friend of mine who has passed away turned me on to these guys but first THIS song. Ill ALWAYS think of my friend Donny Landess when I here this song. RIP, never forgotten❤️✊🏽
I don't know Donny, nor you, but I will think of this comment and you both everytime I listen to this in the future. Can I recommend Middle of Love by Jake Wesley Rodgers? A beautiful song in a different genre, but it gives me the same hopeful, warm feeling this song does. I hope you have a beautiful life full of stories and laughter. Bless you 🙏❤

It's truly sad, how many of us were alive and young in this time, who've lost so many along the journey...
For me, friends, family, both my parents...
My heart goes out to you all, and to those we've lost along the way.
The road is long and winding. .. but we will all meet again in the end.
But for now, let's remeber the good times when we were young and life was good.

Ah the days when you had to buy an entire album to hear one song
When was that? When Edison was spinning wax cylinders? 45 rpm singles are older than most people alive at this point. And there were cassingles in the 80's and cd singles in the 90's.

One of my best friends dad owned a party supply store here in Pittsburgh in the 90’s and early 2000’s. At one point, the entire band except the drummer was employed at one of their locations. He said they’d constantly be making beats on all the boxes and singing songs the whole time they were working but were a great group of people to have working for him. As a young adult at the time, my friends dad would give us tickets to all their concerts around Pittsburgh and we would always go. Great memories, great people, and great music! Love this!

Imagine going to the store to fetch some red solo cups and streamers only to be greeted by the entirety of Rusted Root working there lmao

Came here after watching a TED talk by the drummer in red shirt Jim Donovan. Was intrigued that this song was used to "wake up" the Mars Rover! Pretty cool. And I really liked the song.

This man summons the power of Jim Carrey every time he sings this song lol

This is just one of those songs you don't think would be good live -- the vocals seem too difficult to replicate with any consistency. And yet... this is probably every bit as good (if not better) than the album version.

Am I the only one who thinks that this song is extremely hard to perform effectively? They managed to do it though.
I tried, and I failed. 😄

That's awesome Logan! I remember this song from the mid-90s and the Mathilda movie was a bit after my time. My daughter and wife saw the Broadway performance several years ago and I had forgotten all about it. I never knew this song was in the movie until I found this live version and saw the comments. Now I want to watch the Mathilda movie with her, but she's 15 now and not into Mathilda anymore. D'oh! Maybe I can convince my youngest to watch it with me. Lol

Love watching videos from pre-2010 of live music and not seeing a crowd of cell phones...
@Jared Creeman Yeah, sorry bro I’m 31, so yes I do remember going to these concerts before everyone being on their phones the whole time.
@dan G oh I go to concerts too and bring my cell phone, just think people don’t live in the moment and live through a screen, not through their eyes, ya know? The days of people on shoulders and just enjoying a show without being focused on their phones is over
What’s a concert?
The issue is that phones suck the energy out of people when it should be on the show. Where your mind goes so does the energy. Hence their would be a collective consciousness at concerts before cell phones. This explains the power of concerts pre cell phone, or smart phones more properly speaking. Seeing an NPC on their phone at a show is no skin off my back but the lack of a collective consciousness is a bummer.
I can’t stop listening to this when omg 😅😅😅
