WOW...thank you again for such a wonderful review. I really do appreciate all the support from my subscribers, doing these videos after a full day of teaching is very time consuming (just ask my wife) but the end goal, and the uplifting comments make it easy to continue. With the help of people like you spreading the word...my channel will continue to grow bigger and bigger and help others whom might not otherwise be able to get extra help...thank you for being a part of my quest!

If f(x)=2x-1, then f(x+h) is telling you to replace any x in the function with x+h, thus you have 2(x+h)-1. Thank you for choosing my video and I hope this clears up you question.

Thank you for the nice feedback. When you want to evaluate/simplify f(x+h) write out the function with empty parentheses where there is an x, and then go back and put x+h in each of those ( ) and simplify. When the difference quotient asks for f(x)...well that is just the original function that was given so just write out the function. When you write out f(x), don't forget to wrap it parentheses because you need to distribute the - sign through that function.

Sat through class. Went to my professor's office hours. Stared at my homework for twenty minutes. Watched this video. NOW I get it. Thanks for helping me to understand that this difference quotient isn't the monster it looks like. It really is quite simple when you understand both the "how" and "why." Many thanks for taking time from your own day, to make my time worth a little more.

You are an amazing teacher. I love the way you explain things throughout your process. Thank you for explaining how the numerator is formed in the difference quotient from the algebra slope formula. My precalculus book did not show, nor explain the concept. subscribing to a TH-cam channel helps to support their channel, makes it easier for you to find again, and you get a notification when new videos have been posted. Subscribers, views, duration videos are watched, likes, comments...etc are used by TH-cam to rank where videos are in the search results. Also the ads support the video producer (me), not just TH-cam.

You have no idea how man teachers I asked back in highschool to do this for me. I am the type of person that NEEDS to know why things happen in a problem. This is exactly what I wish more teachers would do. Before watching this video I was confused on x+h section but now I see it is simply the input of the function....sometimes I just need to see it once to full grasp a true understanding. Thank you. Oh man thank you so much. I just spent an hour doing practice problems online only to find out after checking my work that the online answers were wrong! Whoever made them forgot to distribute a -.
Anyway, I’m in college pre-calc doing these difference quotient problems and didn’t have a clue why they exist. Thank you so much for explaining the practical application, and a little about what comes next.

Thank you for this great lesson. Best explanation I've heard yet of what seems like a foreign concept when presented to someone although after learning this its so obvious and simple its hilarious to remember my initial struggle and reaction to seeing this equation.

This is only my first video of yours that I have viewed, and I must say you are an amazing teacher! I really hope you continue creating these tutorials/lessons in the future. You get the idea across, you're descriptive, and you add a bit of humor. After sending this comment, I will be liking this video and subscribing to your channel. I really wish that I was able to spread the word of such an amazing channel; however, I am in an eighth grade (U.S.) Algebra 1 class (highest course offered in my grade), and as you may expect, I am the only person that I know that enjoys studying Geometry to Calculus. So once again, thank you.
