I think this is honestly one of the most terrifying episodes of Dr Who. Not in the same way as some of the gory stuff or the sheer unsettling nature of say Midnight, but because of the Not-Doctor. A creature hellbent on destruction (through sheer morbid fascination of observing the suffering of living beings from afar) that could only gain form by copying biological beings had run into the Doctor of all people, and was copying HIM. Cloning HIM. This was a godlike entity being born and that's without considering that he DEFINITELY would have opened the heart of the Tardis (and the Doctor implied that a Time Lord doing that could make what Rose did look like a cheap party trick). He would annihilate everyone in the entire universe, in every time and place to ever be, in the most physically and psychologically torturous ways possible just because he found it mildly interesting. He'd blast open the Time Lock on the Time War because he'd want to enjoy the theme park ride. And once the entire universe had disintegrated he'd probably just fade away, lose his form and drift back into the nothing, hoping to do it all over again in some other universe. Not to mention how coincidental it was that there were two of the Not-Things. I think the Doctor made a presumption when he said "you were becoming copies of the captain". I think the Captain only met one of them. I think whatever these entities are, they can only copy one at a time. So two people, means only two gain form. There could have been billions of other formless entities right on the other side of that window, watching. I don't know something about the cosmic scale of what can happens when nothingness becomes a Time Lord is just terrifying when you think about everything the Doctor can do, and the things he CAN do but wouldn't.
Seeing that creature floating outside, knowing that she knew full well she was going to die, but doing it to make sure those things from beyond the edge of the universe never got back, protecting everyone she'd ever known, and ever loved, and the music, it really makes me sad.
Ahh, so it was the _Not_ Doctor figuring things out towards the end of the clip, and not the real one. Rather, the real one had figured it out but still tried to hide it for some reason?
The Doctor was actively trying not to figure it out as thinking is how the creatures gain their form. At that stage, as the Doctor explained the reasons behind what the Captain had done, the Not-Doctor was able to use what he had gained to keep going and continue the thought process.
The not doctor knew 2 things 1. The doctor and noble trapped themselves in the bridge 2. The not doctor was looking for cracks in the Pokerface Because the not doctor is distinctly like the doctor down to memory and thought processes However the not doctor wasn't used to rationalising like the doctor until now that is, The not doctor was observing the doctor to deduce the purpose of the captain making the universe's slowest time bomb 😂
I have a theory that the Not Things are the same or a similar species to the midnight entity. As both of them had to mimic their victims to learn about them and eventually become them. Also they both wanted to escape their natural habitats.
I love that even with the fate of the universe riding on it, they can't NOT investigate a mystery

Well I guess I would not have a doppelganger I cannot think anyway😂

Because he didn't want them to know probably

I mean... that's pretty obvious, don't you think?

Wait...why did the Captain decay...in space?
Question for the captain: why the long face?
She was tired of those two Not-things horsing around.
