  • Dave Grohl joins Snoopy and the gang for a rendition of "EverLinus".
Here's a fragment of an "Everlong"/"Linus and Lucy" mashup I started and decided not to finish.

No, they're as far apart as can be. "Linus and Lucy" is in Ab and "Everlong" is in D (or B minor, but two sharps in the key signature regardless), so a tritone apart. I pitched the "Everlong" vocals down a semitone so I was dealing with Db, which is only a one-accidental difference in the key signature, so I could make it work with some careful placement.
"Everlong" doesn't go anywhere surprising harmonically. (Stripping away all the cool color tones, the only chords in the original key are D, Bm, A, and G.) "Linus and Lucy" has that surprising B chord (or Cb chord if you want to be that kind of person), which is a bit of an unexpected treat for a song of that genre in the key of Ab. Fortunately, by moving "Everlong" to the key of C#/Db instead of D, it ends up in a key that has lots of tones that work very nicely over a "surprise" B in a jazzy-ish sort of way: You have C#, D#, F#, G#, A#....even E# (F) works nicely as a #11 in this context.
