      Not all rentals have a limit millage, Surprised that enterprise does as there an american company originally and I've rented from them here in the uk a few times and the millage has never been caped. Regarding insurance I'm guessing you needed there insurance because your not driving on a uk licence. When I used them i had an option to either use there insurance for about £14 a day or use my own, So if your using there insurance and have an accident then they can claim from there own insurance (Basically your protected) but if your using your own insurance and have a bump they claim from your insurance and it will effect you by making your insurance price go up the following year so it is always good in a way to use there's. So I'm guessing because your not a British citizen there must be some rules and clauses there but it's always good to shop around. Another way of getting around it is if you know someone here in the uk then they could rent the car and add you on as a named driver.

    Actually, Easyjet will allow you to take a medium bag 56x45x25cm with no weight limit free of charge into the cabin, if there is not enough room in the lockers, they will put it in the hold, free of charge.

    We usually rent a car when we travel and it is really important to read the terms and conditions. some companies offer cheap cars, but they have the limit millage. In the UK, renting a car could be expensive if you don't book in advance.

    1. in all Europe (including non EU) insurance is on car, so if anything happens, you covered - some insurance cover and 3rd person and lots of more(read little letters on contract- ALWAYS), so don't complain on insurance you will not get lawsuit for 1 million if you have little accident ;)
    2. Rental Car in EU - Never choose cheaper (they like Ryanair), take AVIS or HERTZ or something global or what have good review you will pay maybe extra more in start, but there no distance limit (only you must return car full with gas)
    3. Ask for Diesel car
    4. Ask for car around 4 meters long (for parking) (smaller car usually are to small, and bigger, well you are not in America and parking are here like gold)

    I’m British and I’ve only ever rented a car in UK about 3 or 4 times in my life, and I’m getting on a bit. We just tend to take our own. The best value was renting from a local car dealership. You might have been better getting a train up to Cambridge and hiring away from the airport plus have a little look round at the same time!

    If you think UK immigration is fierce you should try what awaits foreigners in Chicago...
    Most people don't hire cars from the big hire companies, they're mainly for 'corporate' hire.
    People here tend to use small back street hire companies, but you have to take the car back, you can't just leave it where you want.
    Your Air B&B costs more a night a good hotel charges for B&B for two.

  • @sizzlemann
    @sizzlemann 6 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    Wait, you skimped on flying with Ryanair to Stansted, instead of taking British Airways to Heathrow, bartered for a rental car (cheaper to rent out of Heathrow), but then got a $243.00 a night AirBnB?
    That's too funny! Odd, but funny!

    I have never heard of such a thing in car hire before . I think the Tourist Board would be very interested to hear about this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Driving in the UK , if you average 40 miles in an hour you are doing well . If you are coming over here for the first time and going to drive , most cars here are manual gear box not automatic . So if you need a automatic , make quite sure you say so when booking your car. A good tip is to buy a copy of a booklet called , The Highway code . Its printed by the government and only costs $ 4 or so and full of good advice ! and above all , ENJOY YOUR VACATION !!! :-)

    What is life without its challenges?
    I went to England for the first time, last winter. I flew from Lisboa to Paris (for 5 days) then flew to Exeter (skipping London). It took a bit of getting used to driving on the opposite side of the street and the roundabouts... oh my goodness. I went round my first big one, 3 times... so I can relate. I was much better the next day.
    I rented with Eurocar and I booked in advance and thank goodness. I had my car for a week and drove a lot and it was less than $300.00 Pounds total.
    Next time you’ll know better 🙂

    • @WAYAWAYWithAsh
      @WAYAWAYWithAsh  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The roundabouts can be really tricky if it's a multilane one for sure. But I really enjoyed driving on the "wrong" side haha.

      Flying into Exeter or Bristol is great for the South West & Wales. Although they are proper cities with plenty to see & do, the traffic is generally lighter than London & home counties.

    • @JenShea
      @JenShea 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Russ Cattell I was really glad I made that decision. I was visiting Brixham, where my Mum grew, and it made a lot more sense for me to fly into Exeter. I’d never been to England and I certainly had never driven on the other side of the road... I figured it would be much easier for me to do my first UK driving in the countryside. After a week in Brixham, I drove down to Penzance in Cornwall, stopping first in Kingsware and Dartmouth... It was an exciting journey down the narrow country roads... and I wouldn’t have done it any other way. 😊

    Never, never, ever hire a car from a UK airport. Apart from the fact that they're all American owned - Hertz, Avis, Eurocar, Alamo, Enterprise - and they know you would have to get into the city to find another car hire depot; but of course, same companies again, although you can usually get a much better deal. Tip: You DO NOT have to use their insurance - that's a scam, and it's illegal.! You can use your own private insurance. Most companies no longer limit your mileage below around 200 miles per day, so they saw you coming! My brother-in-law ordered a car at Enterprise, Belfast International Airport, but he ordered it from Canada. When he got there, the car they offered was a manual drive, and too small, so he wanted to change it. They charged him the price of a brand new car, demanding a deposit of £20,000, telling him it was because he was from Canada. He paid it (insane), on top of the deposit of £600 he'd already paid on booking! It took him three months to get the money back, although they still managed to rip him off on the deposit, which they kept! I got ripped off by the same company after they'd added extras on their copy of the agreement, but not on mine. It took me nearly eight weeks to get a part refund. So one needs to be careful, especially at airports. What you should do, is get a price for a specific car type, ask what the charge and deposit will be for the number of days you want, then tell them that you're going to look elsewhere. After a while, go back, and if there;s someone different at the desk, as the same questions, and it's guaranteed you will get a totally different pricing. I usually get bus from the airpot into the city, and get a much better the car hire deal there. You'll always have to pay a substantial deposit, probably around £400 on your credit card, but just make certain they inform you that the deposit is totally refundable.

    Hey guys! Just catching up on your vids and I feel awful that I wasn't there to tell you about a very good deal you can get through a different car rental company... ughh! If you guys do the UK again - train from the airport to Watford and then get to a car rental place which gives unlimited mileage we use every year called, "Budget Car Rental" We were there for the whole of September like I was telling you in England, Northern England and Wales. Sad we didn't get a chance to see you then - but oh well next year maybe! @@WAYAWAYWithAsh It's because Ryanair is a pain in the ass. In all seriousness, them and Easyjet and the other European budget carriers make travelling around Europe a very cost efficient thing to do and I put up with their foibles. I'm trying to think of a US carrier that's on their level...maybe spirit...nah, even Spirit are a bit more lenient than Ryanair.
      As a rule US domestic carriers are great (compared to european ones) because you use planes there like we use trains in Europe. On the flip side, international flights with US carriers are generally not as good as British Airways or Virgin Atlantic or Quantas or whoever because there is more focus on travelling domestically than internationally in my opinion.

    Flying Ryanair is a brave move but to hire a car from an uk airport is a odd choice if your on a budget. And your place in Bath could have been replaced by a great B&B right in the middle of Bath saving on the stress of parking in town.

    Why are Americans attracted to Bath in England you all seem obsessed with the place after London. Take a drive around England, west to Cornwall through Somerset Dorset Devon all beautiful places. Then of course there is the Midlands with Shakespeare at Stratford upon Avon and the North has the Peak District and Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. UK immigration is the same as us Brits at the USA immigration it takes at least an hour and often two hours. Glad you enjoyed Bath.

    Way away If you are going to South Wales and the West Country. There is a very good place to visit,bit is if you drive toward Bristol on the A4 from Bath drive toward Bristol Keep on the The road until you come to a Public house which is about 4 or 5 miles then turn off and drive toward Minehead it is on the west Coast by the River Severn then travel on to Porlock then you will come to a steep hill leading you to Lynton then look down the map until you come to a beautiful village called Covelly it is by the sea the whole area is beautiful. The best way to see it is by UTube under Covelly I hope you enjoy your holiday David Chave
