    The gem museum in Franklin is a great source of information. They also plan trips up there to teach people.

    The green rock/mineral is called smargadite. Clay County is well known for its beautiful Ruby in Smargadite specimens.

    I'm currently enrolled in a undergraduate Geoscience program. I live in Asheville NC not very far from where you guys were I think. Id love to get out and check things out.

    You can go in any creek in that area and highbank with A suction dredge and find great gold and other gemstone..

    SC I would want at least a two pound hammer but of course then you have to swing it. I never heard of these rocks they are pretty. Great video buddy

    I live in this area. My new fascination. I love stones. Even the part your breaking off is beautiful and used in other ways. I just see beauty in the rocks.

    Keep in mind if you think your going to make money rockhounding your wrong. You do rockhounding for the fun, hobby, and adventures you get. You'll spend lots more money looking for them than just going put and buy the rough stones on line.

      It’s not the looking that cost money but tools to cut with, polisher etc. you can find some great finds. We have so many rivers and nature around to find many neat rocks. It doesn’t cost to just find them unless you go to the mines you have to pay.

    We take tours up there at night with UV lights, and the rubies glow red like a stop light!
