    If anything about this film for me was the acting duel between Rebecca de mornay and ernie hudson in that powerful emotional and triggering scene. From what you showed in a clip discussing the behind the scenes on what ernie said, the larger content was rebecca was always in character and took time to prepare to be in character before filming, so you had two thespians dedicated and very good in their craft locked in an acting duel with eachother which makes it more thrilling for the viewer. An acting duel is usually when an actor tries to either out act the other or see if the other can keep up and stay in character. You often see them in several movies in the 90s when they pop up and before then. Copland with stallone is another example and even predator with carl weathers and arnie confrontation which carl won but arnie kinda did kept up with him.

And when she tells Solomon “Don’t f-k with me, [r-word]”??? CHILLS. I miss these thrillers from the 80s/90s…they don’t make them like this anymore! • @IChooseJesus9091
      @IChooseJesus9091 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      She was very naive. Also, throughout the movie, she second guessed herself. And when she finally "trusted her instincts", & spoke up, she was actually wrong, & ended up publicly embarrassing herself. So I'm guessing that initially, didn't help her confidence in her own judgement. But Peyton expertly set that up.

      @IChooseJesus9091 she was 99% to blame! Lol... some random woman that stopped a bus, you never checked out and you let take over your household while you're there!:

    • @IChooseJesus9091
      @IChooseJesus9091 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@blackBrainySmurf + If she didn't, we wouldn't have a movie. It's the character she plays. Someone who's naive, too nice, too trusting, & doesn't trust her own instincts, or necessarily know how to advocate for herself. I'm sure by the end , she learned more caution, & how to trust her own instincts. It took the death of her friend, almost losing her own life, & almost losing her family, for her to wake up, & grow, & to build up that strength in her. But everyone in her family survived, & in the end she found the strength to do what unfortunately needed to be done.
      I can relate to her a lot. You just don't know, what you don't know. Until you fully understand the evil & depravity that exists in this world, & the extent of it, you tend to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, & assume the majority of people have good intentions. Also if you've been abused, you learn NOT to trust your own instincts, because all your boundaries get violated, & you get gaslighted into doubting yourself, other people, & your own reality ALOT. If you've been sheltered, you are not educated enough about the world, to know exactly how, when, why, & where, to set up barriers & boundaries. Claire's character strikes me as having been abused or too sheltered growing up. So she had some learning/maturing to do, & unfortunately that education it cost her & her family alot.
      Thankfully they survived. Which is not the case in most horror/thrillers.

Annabella Sciorra very talented actress, she was great both this and Jungle Fever. The asthma attack scene was so realistic bc I have a history of asthma as well over the years but I’m healthy now!!! I can see why Ernie Hudson wanted this role as it was a good character to play and test his acting chops however despite the role not being black in mind the very fact ernie did get to play him automatically puts it into an old hollywood troupe of the happy go lucky almost stupid black man or sassy black woman doing a demeaning job for rich white folk who is the voice of reason and conscious to these white folk who cant see whats going on. And sometimes will put themselves on the line to save their employer. Usually this troupe was seen and originated in nonsense like gone with the wind and similar films. Which oddly if you have seen it but spoilers ahead if you haven't makes django unchained quite clever because it takes this troupe upside down and reverses it and also makes it appealing to a black audience on their true feelings on what a character presented like this is really like.

    "Disbar him!"
    John De Lancie plays the creepy gyno really well 😅 Thankfully he's a cool guy irl. He'll always be Q to many of us but I enjoy seeing him in darker roles like this. Try Arcade (1993) for a b-horror with John.

    If you haven’t already, another great movie with Ernie Hudson in it that you should definitely review it is called Congo.
    Also, if you think The Hand That Rocks the Cradle is scary, there’s a movie from 2000 that is based on a true story called The Stalking of Laurie Show.

    A very realistic thriller and well acted by Ernie Hudson and everyone else involved including Rebecca De Mornay who plays the molester doctor's widow Peyton, The wife Clair, The husband Michael and their friend Marlene played by a then unknown Julianne Moore who was hip to Peyton from the start and didn’t like her because she knew that she was a suspicious woman with hidden intentions.
    Michael, Solomon, Marlene, and the babies Emma and Joe were the only characters that I liked and had common sense in the movie.
    The wife played by Annabella Sciora who's a wonderful actress only irked me in a sense that she couldn't initially see threw Peyton's act of revenge against her by coming into her life and home by undermining everything from her husband, children, marriage etc but she absolutely did not deserve to be assaulted by the pervert doctor that offed himself
