How about you put an engine from a scooter? They already have a cvt gearbox attached and there's loads of old 2-stroke that can be highly tuned, like a Gilera Runner 125cc, those engines gooooes like hell, tuning parts are easy to find (in Europe at least) and they don't weigh much! Also maybe some stearing dampers for the rear? So it doesn't torque stear! As much 😅 Stay awsome guys!
I would recommend reading Tony Foale's paper on the concept of a motorcycle with 2 wheel steering. If you google his name and "2 wheel steering" you should find it. Dual steering the way you guys currently have it configured cancels out the gyroscopic precessional forces that help keep the bike upright, as long as the front and rear steering angles are equal. If you reduce the angle that the rear can steer, you can maintain some of the self-balancing gyroscopic forces, but the front and rear steering would need to be synchronized, and in the end you would still have reduced self-balancing forces. The rear steer would also prevent counter steering, and I guess that could be both a pro and con haha Easiest way to make the physics of this bike work would be to have a fixed rear, front steer, with the 2 center wheels on casters. Technically you could come up with a gearing solution to turn all the front 3 wheels, but they would have to turn at different angles which would make it pretty complex to hack together. Powering the two casters could cause issues but might be doable since they're forced to stay in-line with the front and rear, but you should be able to at least make it 2wd

the basic gist is that with two wheels in the middle, their tendency is to skid sideways instead of rotate with the bike. So if I was working on this bike I would offer you two choices. It looks cool. so do 4 wheels with front steer, or do 3 wheels with front and back steer. If you do front and back steer on a bike, I would not take it over 6 MPH, cause thats dangerous as fck.

And making it front/rear steer by turning in the same direction like an EV Hummer would make you go sideways and low-side. It's just not possible on a motorcycle. Tony Foale wrote a good paper on the physics of the 2 wheel steered motorcycle concept and why it's not feasible.
Having multiple points of articulation will intensify any wobble you pick up. As someone said before raking the front wheel could help some. Also using car tires is going to be difficult and will be working against you when turning. The flat contact patch wants to remain flat and any cornering at speed will make leaning difficult and dangerous. At least over inflated them so they are rounded lol. Can’t wait to see this beast fly.

You definitely near gear reduction. Install a jackshaft or CVT. Putting some rake in the front steering tube will help stabilize this machine. I love seeing custom builds like this. Keep it up!
I mean it's a unique idea. But unique doesn't always mean good. Loved your first couple videos and loved your content with GH, you built some pretty cool stuff there. But to be honest, that led me to expect a little more out of your own channel than is being delivered with this particular project.

First I like it. Looks like you're geared for about 50 to 60 MPH. (Just a wild guess) I don't have an exact tooth count, but the size of that top sprocket. Ratio to the bottom sprocket/ turning the diameter of a car tire, with 50 hp it would be fast as ****. The motor can't get any rpm. As soon as the clutch starts to take hold. It bogs the motor. Edit: I was way off on the speed. 🤔 from what I can get out of the video . 20 tooth clutch, 50 (ish) bottom sprocket, and 195/ 60 14 tire .... and some real rough math 🧮. .. If you ever get the engine wound out to 3600 R.P.M, May be closing in on a hundred mile an hour mark.😮🏎💨 zoom zoom
Try using a chain and sprocket for smoother turning. Having 2 sprockets horizontal next to each other when done right can allow simultaneous front and back steering. Keep up the good work👍
powering from a trailer/castor will always give you issues. Better to put the sprocket on the other side of the wheel and run in reverse, so its powering from the front.
A couple of suggestions if you are sticking to the current design. You have the steering one-to-one right now. I suggest putting the pivot points on the input bar further in so you can have more leverage or torque to exert on the front wheel. Also, on both the front and read wheel, put in a little caster angle on the head tubes so it is more stable
If the engine survives use it to make a BUM style shop fan. Make a frame and power a large fan with it. Just run exhaust out of the shop. With the right gearing it could just idle and still put out decent air.
Love this. if all the wheels were pivoting and linked with steering it would support the motorized wheel instead of the back just pushing it random angles lol
The front wheel should be either on its turning centerline or behind it. Out front will not allow you to go over just a few mph. When going faster, it will "catch" and throw the bike's lean in the opposite direction of the turn OR it will catch and pull the steering all the way to one side. Just trying to save some heartache and possible injury!
You guys are doing an awesome job. If you put in a rear steering assist, that would help with the rear end slop. What about adding Heim joints where the steering connects?

Have the rear motor provide the most power for pure propulsion and then have the other motor(s) more as a turbo effect? Only activated under full or almost full throttle conditions.
Great contraption guys! Looks like having the engine push while it can pivot independently like that is like trying to reverse a trailer and then steer the trailer. I think it could help if you connect the engine section to the steering, so that it is still independent but you can control the power through the frame better. Keep it up guys, great content 🤙
Your back steering wheel only needs to move a ¼ of what the front steering does, and put some dampers on as well, that should take some of the twitchy out

Okay, so if you want to build a four-wheel motorcycle, I think your best bet is to build a two-wheeled motorcycle with an additional motor on the front wheel, and then build an inline trailer and put a motor on each of those wheels. Not a trailer with a wheel on either side, but a trailer with wheels sort of like you have on this one. I think that's going to be the only way you're going to be able to make this happen. Also, look into rake and trail. Those are important geometries when building a motorcycle for stability.
Interesting idea, but your current setup needs to have the rear steering linked with the front steering so it doesn't have rear side ways push that makes it squirrely. Some push and pull cables from a boat, and you flip them, so you get that stable rear steer. Keep up the great work 👍.
seems like having the front pivot so far behind the front wheel is causing it to whip a lot... or maybe its that the rods you used arent tight and are allowing the wheel to flop around... pretty interesting stuff guys! keep it up haha
One or both of the two center wheels should be driven instead of having power come from the rear. That way, it will be more stable under power, since the force is not applied to a component that wants to rotate under acceleration. It's like trying to push a chain in a straight line. You would also be able to say that it's mid-wheel drive.

you dont need gears to reverse the rear steering just have the rear push rod go diagonaly across the frame to a crank on the oppsite side of the rear wheel from the front wheel
it will get a lot more stable if you add some rake! Perhaps change the front steering stem and handlebars to like a 10-15 degree angle (will look better too probably). The stability comes from the fact that when the bike leans to either side, the steering wants to go in the opposite direction, making it self-stabilizing.
on second thought, youll likely need the steering to pivot so far so that the front wheel contact patch is behind the pivot (if it were extended to the ground). So that would be more like a 50 degree angle. still doable tho! and it would look sick as hell
You're going to have problems with the power in the back because it's always going to want to be squirrely because of the Pivot Point if you put the motor in the front it'd be a lot more controllable
The rear wheel needs to be tied into the steering to keep it from wobbling when power is applied just remember to do it to the opposite of the front wheel!

you need to link the front and rear wheel steering. if you turn the front left, there should be shaft that forces the rear wheel right. that way its always a curve. problem is when it crab walks. also gear the steering down. rear steer plus front steer is crazy at any speed. sick bike fellas
You guys really need a chain and sprocket steering system on that contraption. It'll tighten up its steering ability and make it so you can set up a synchronized rear steer... And for cripe sakes, put some pegs on that thing before you run yourselves over!😂😉

I think part of the reason it gets so squirlly when you give it any power is cuz you have it under loose rear wheel power, it's just like backing up a trailer where even if you are completely in line and back up completely straight eventually the trailer is gonna wanna go left or right and when it does it goes quick and that's why it's so easy for beginners to jack knife trailers because you gotta learn to correct early. But anyways I think if you still wanted it to be rear wheel drive you'd have to figure out some way to lock in that rear wheel to the steering system so then it could push the bike forward linearly instead of basically at the whim of that joint and then also you could have a front and rear wheel steer setup which could be pretty premium the only issue then would be finding a way to drive the other wheels as well.. maybe it would be easier and make the whole build even sillier if you did a front AND rear wheel drive setup and just slap a motor onto that front wheel basically how you did with that back wheel... just all some random thoughts I had though and who knows how much merit or actual truth is behind any of it.. keep on building ugly machines tho cuz this stuff is mad entertaining 😂
That steering on the front is always going to be wildly unstable. Any tiny force to either side is going to multiply until the front tries to fold itself back. The reason is that that contact patch is so far in front of where the pivot intersect with the ground. If you look at a motorcycle or bicycle, if you extend the front forks forward until they intersect with the ground, that point is a few inches front of the wheel's contact patch. This is what makes bikes inherently stable. If you look at yours the pivot is about a foot behind the contact patch.
I skipped through it near the end, and you may have covered this. Wouldn't it be better to have the powered wheel to the front wheel. I think the drag of all the wheels will always make it "crinkle" or "fold" where if you pull it you will stretch and elongate the wheels. This is basically a chain of wheels, you can't push a chain but you can certinaily pull with it. Think of a train. Again if you covered this my apologies. Either way, Goodluck!
I think if you add length on your handlebars you'll have more leverage to move the wheels, making the handlebars lower may help with the jerkiness and if you take the second rod from the front and put it to the back both wheels will steer

That drive need to be fixed or it will drive the back end in it's own direction. Constantly fighting the balance of the 2 pivot points

You need to run a steering stabilizer on the rear steer in order to take the flex out of it.

you need to link the front and rear wheel steering. if you turn the front left, there should be shaft that forces the rear wheel right. that way its always a curve. problem is when it crab walks. also gear the steering down. rear steer plus front steer is crazy at any speed. sick bike fellas
You guys really need a chain and sprocket steering system on that contraption. It'll tighten up its steering ability and make it so you can set up a synchronized rear steer... And for cripe sakes, put some pegs on that thing before you run yourselves over!😂😉

I think part of the reason it gets so squirlly when you give it any power is cuz you have it under loose rear wheel power, it's just like backing up a trailer where even if you are completely in line and back up completely straight eventually the trailer is gonna wanna go left or right and when it does it goes quick and that's why it's so easy for beginners to jack knife trailers because you gotta learn to correct early. But anyways I think if you still wanted it to be rear wheel drive you'd have to figure out some way to lock in that rear wheel to the steering system so then it could push the bike forward linearly instead of basically at the whim of that joint and then also you could have a front and rear wheel steer setup which could be pretty premium the only issue then would be finding a way to drive the other wheels as well.. maybe it would be easier and make the whole build even sillier if you did a front AND rear wheel drive setup and just slap a motor onto that front wheel basically how you did with that back wheel... just all some random thoughts I had though and who knows how much merit or actual truth is behind any of it.. keep on building ugly machines tho cuz this stuff is mad entertaining 😂
Maybe put the engine in the front, since now its pushing and causing unstability. In the front would be viceversa

That steering on the front is always going to be wildly unstable. Any tiny force to either side is going to multiply until the front tries to fold itself back.
The reason is that that contact patch is so far in front of where the pivot intersect with the ground. If you look at a motorcycle or bicycle, if you extend the front forks forward until they intersect with the ground, that point is a few inches front of the wheel's contact patch. This is what makes bikes inherently stable. If you look at yours the pivot is about a foot behind the contact patch.
It has too much slop in the pivot points. Tighten everything up and get a clutch on the engine. It's gonna be cool lol

Hey guys, I would recommend some steering stabilizers. Just a thought, it looks a bit loose in the steering.
I skipped through it near the end, and you may have covered this. Wouldn't it be better to have the powered wheel to the front wheel. I think the drag of all the wheels will always make it "crinkle" or "fold" where if you pull it you will stretch and elongate the wheels. This is basically a chain of wheels, you can't push a chain but you can certinaily pull with it. Think of a train. Again if you covered this my apologies. Either way, Goodluck!

I think if you add length on your handlebars you'll have more leverage to move the wheels, making the handlebars lower may help with the jerkiness and if you take the second rod from the front and put it to the back both wheels will steer
