    I'm really glad that, on a whim, I decided to listen to this. I hadn't felt any reason to revisit the Greeks for many years. Guess I'm gonna be going on a trip back now.

      what you come to realize when studying them, is that they had things figured out way better than most do today and implementing many of their philosophies would immediately impact society in a positive manner.

    Daniel, do you think you could find some time eventually to squeeze in a little something on Plotinus

      Great idea! I took a seminar on Plotinus when I was an undergraduate.

      In a sense. Timocracy is ruled by honor and souls with Honor. Names Tim/Timothy/Timotheus - Russian/Ukraine origins Timofey - German/Timo etc. have all the same origins and idea of Timocracy.

    I guess the Flynn effect doesn't apply in government?

      Timocracy is ruled by honor. It is like an Spartan State. Warrior state. Sports state. Strong rules. It is degeneracy from the state ruled by aristocracy/wise because it is ruled by people who are high-spirited and simple minded. They have some ability of reason but they are far from aristocracy because they are controlled by their passion and maybe their pursuit of winning or glory so they are not purely virtous in a mind of plato.
      Democracy in Platos mind was the second lowest form of goverment after Tyranny because like Tyranny it could be completely corrupted. Sort of political candidates who would fool people for votes with empy promises. So there is a huge difference when talking about Platos way of seeing Democracy and Timocracy.

      If you are not familiar with Plato, this can be a little bit confusing video as well...Plato, when he was talking about different kinds of governments he also meant governments ruled by certain spirit/soul - So in this case with Timocracy it would mean a state that is ruled by Timocractic souls.

      @@owler9208 No Never read Plato
      But looking for a virtue structure that can be secular but align with Christianity
      I like Alcuin of York, Aquinas & only read Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics
      I get recommended Platonism, but you know how it is;
      got a reading list longer a prostitute's body count on top of having responsibilities
      Audiobooks don't land as hard as paper either, but I do want to read Republic
      Thanks for the breakdown
