Explaining Lithuania’s Electricity Situation

- There are many ways that Lithuania - and the baltic nations in general - are very very much a part of Europe and the EU. However, instead of being part of the main EU grid, Lithuania and other Baltic countries are part of a power system that is centrally managed and coordinated by a dispatching center in Moscow!

We would rather have independence of BRELL as soon as possible, but IMO we should not break our solidarity with Estonia for it. Infighting of this kind is exactly what Russia wants. I am sure that Estonia has compromised on some of its decisions in its foreign policy with us, so we should as well with no insults or negativity thrown their way, only understanding and respect
Lithuania has been already prepared to leave the BRELL ring. But it will wait until other Baltic states, Latvia and Estonia, will be ready, and then all three countries are going to do that together
The sooner we leave BRELL the better. I hope brothers Latvians and Estonians can speed up their works.
The move to switch early is definitely just politics. Lithuania has conducted blackout tests and has the ability to switch in an emergency situation so speeding things up is just unnecessary.
Great video, thank you! 👍
Cool video.
New things I learn about my country in your videos.
Good job 👍
It is impressive how you find new topics about Lithuania:) I am not sure if you made a video about different cultural regions of Lithuania: Dzūkija, Suvalkija, Aukstatija and Zemaitija and/or even Little Lithuania (Mazoji Lietuva) :)
Thanks! It’s on the list of future topics :)
A really cool video!
We lithuania's and Estonia with Latvia paid massive price before. I hope that we can disconnect early. Estonia is slow this time and drag a long rest Baltic countries. Russia government is a threat to us and they showed it for us by attacking Ukraine
Didn't Baltic states say they will accelerate the disconnection from grid to 2025 ?
I am shocked that Moscow still controls electrical power in Baltics... Something is not right. I mean we do use common network but I don't think Moscow is in charge of our electricity. 🤷
Of course it's Estonia that's lagging behind. :D
Let me guess, another russhist joke about Estonians being slow from a country that cannot build school toilets?
@@artemi_sg I'm lithuanian and we've been making that joke for forever. It's even referenced in the video. Take it easy.
It's just a friendly joke between neighbours, without bad intentions.@@artemi_sg
Also Ukraine and Moldova have now became a part of the European continental grid

Estonia slacking on this and Rail Baltica sadly
How is Estonia slacking on Rail Baltica?
If happens their part to be finished a bit later.. Why would not be possible to run the Rail Baltica in Lithuania and Latvia for example.
Does it have to be that we can only launch it when all three countries complete their part of the project?
60 hertz in Kaliningrad? Why and how is it even possible, as it’s a part of the same grid?
I don’t think it’s correct.
Just a note, it was we Lithuanians who slowed down Rail Baltica, so we all are the slowest sometimes 👍
Well not really. It's Estonia who plans to finish Rail Baltica some time in 2030's. Lithuania and Latvia don't have any delays yet.
Source?
@@karkevicius it's well known that Lith was blocking the project because it originally only proposed the route through Kaunas , but later wanted to add Vilnius . This caused a long delay, until they basically gave into LT with a few consensions. That took a long time to hammer out and delayed the project
Rail Baltica could fail because of Lithuania, say officials

@@tnickknight oh from ten years ago? Yea I believe you then
from my point of view we have government that want to show strong Lithuania at any cost faster more political move, while Latvia and Estonians think more about population support - slower but cheaper electricity,.
In that regard Lithuania always wants to be ahead of the rest of world.
Quite often decisions are made motivated by politics and not the good of the population.
In Norway we pay 100% more for the electicty now, becuse the kind ones blew up Northstream gaspipes, germany turned down its Nuclear reactors... And we are not even a part of EU and we have to pay extra for idots in charge...
If Lithuania starts to get its energy from Europe, they will get shit poor, and we also have to pay more too.
Since Germany now started to burn its worst performance coal and exporting LNG Gas, then Pakistan don't have access to that gass anymore, and they also went back to coal...
What are you talking about?
Lithuania already is getting its electricity either from their internal generation (wind, solar, biomass and LNG) or from NordPool electricity market. So what you wanted to say about getting electricity from Europe? 😆
I always support energy independence. As long as it's in the best benefit for the people, and not a political move. Germany is already feeling the repercussions of cutting Russian energy, as their industry slowly collapses, and prices rise.
Germany will stumble and then they will rebuild themselves.
There are many capable people in Germany.
The decoupling from Russia was quite painful, but what’s the alternative? To allow yourself to be hostage to a person like Putin.
If you think he would stop at Ukraine.. think again.
Putin’s Russia have to be contained.
Lithuania and Latvia can just leave Estonia behind for another year. Estonians often claim they're not Baltic. And are slow.
I will respond in Lao Tze words..
Estonia is like Nature, never in rush, but all things get accomplished!
Much love to our northern neighbors
You want to be independent? Yes, and now surrederer your independent to the EU 😂
