With that being said Toney was out of shape for this fight which is too bad because I believe he may have had the superior all around skills and is a defensive all time great. Roy in his prime at 168lbs beats anyone and forget about when he was at middleweight. Nobody in the history of boxing beats him at that weight including Sugar Ray Robinson who's best weight was probably 147lbs. That's not a knock in SRR who's the greatest P4P fighter ever but I'd take Jones at middleweight in a fight between the two.

A weak chin is a weak chin and a weak chin never wins against a poweful punch. SRR had the hand speed, the timing and accuracy to connect with Roy and he also had the power to put him away. Hagler was an animal in his prime and had a relentless attack. His ability to switch stances in the middle of a combination would have thrown Roy off and his jab would have a key to the fight. A prime Marvin Hagler could brawl, box from the outside, was a great infighter and had the footwork to cut off the ring on Jones. He would have given Roy a lot of trouble and I'm not talking about the version of him that had almost 70 fights and faced Sugar Ray Leonard. A young Hagler was a whole different story. I agree that RJJ was one of the most physically gifted athletes of all time and that goes a long way in boxing but the other two were also physically gifted in their own right but had more overall skills to bring to the table. I can't say who would have won out of the 3 in any given match up between them but I do think it's ludicrous to put Roy above the other two so clear cut.

It was that James didn't have the discipline in between fights. His manager Jackie Kallen would have him fight every 6-8 weeks or so. Even if he never took a serious beating, Toney had 91 total fights and acclimated a lot of blows to the head over the course of his long career. He always did talk a little funny, but his speech has definitely declined and he should not be allowed to fight on.

Toney fought at that weight or lower for over six years prior to his fight with Roy, often struggling to make weight. Why is weight suddenly considered a factor? Just because he had his ass handed to him? Besides, it's not like he gassed in the later rounds he was dominated from the opening bell.
Its an excuse him and his fans love to use. The reason y he struggled to make the weight wasn't because he suddenly grew out of the division, Roy was naturally bigger than James. It was that James didn't have the discipline in between fights. His manager Jackie Kallen would have him fight every 6-8 weeks or so. Because she knew if hed have any sort of layoff that he'd either gain a bunch of weight, or he'd get caught up in thr streets. He actually had a 4 month layoff leading into the Jones fight. Which nowadays isn't a layoff at all, but for James it was. He went into camp at over 220 lbs

This (Roy vs Toney) fight was before everyone found out how to beat Roy. You just hafta get him into a corner or against the ropes and then just keep nailing him until he goes down. You may get hit a few times, but keep pounding Roy until he goes down. That's what many dudes did later in Roy's career to beat Roy. Roy is just to hard to beat if you try to box with him at the center of the ring.

Nah, it's just a brain saturated with THC. he never took a beating in the ring,, he was a master at eluding shots.
He was a master of rolling with shots, and he did get caught a few times in his career. Even if he never took a serious beating, Toney had 91 total fights and acclimated a lot of blows to the head over the course of his long career. He always did talk a little funny, but his speech has definitely declined and he should not be allowed to fight on.
Not only did he have over 90 fights, but once James lost control of his weight he stopped doing road work and he only sparred. All those years of sparring had a bigger toll on his brain damage than his fights did imo
