Nah, I always play this DLC after beating the main story. It is just better that way. Flashback, headcanon, whatever it takes.... this is the true ending to Mass Effect.
@@OneLastScholar I went through this DLC during the main story for the first time in Legendary Edition, right after Rannoch. I've played it twice before, always after the ending. I don't see any other point in the story where this DLC would fit, morale after Rannoch might be at the highest level, after Thessia everything turns more serious and desperate. The downside is Miranda's not there. I think I prefer it after the main story. Everyone's available and you don't have to worry about breaking the game's dark tone. And it works as a headcanon, like you said. Or an alternate universe or something. All about farewell One way or the other it's a great ending for the trilogy
There's a mod for both the original and legendary editions where the Citadel DLC takes place a year after the Reaper War. Ideally, you'll want to have Audemus' Happy Ending Mod alongside it. In this case, this is song means "happily ever after" and "farewell" to Shepard, the Normandy and the crew.
I love the last note, how it ends while making the song feel... Unfinished. It says that sometimes there just isn't enough time to say all the things that need to be said, and really all that's left is Goodbye.

Nah, I personally found the extended cut bad. I mean, it's ok if Bioware tried to give us an "art" ending, but the whole catalyst thing feels forced, like a Deus-Ex Machina. It's like "Oh I established peace between geth and quarian and now I have to kill the geth". Also, the nature of the "cycle", as catalyst explains, contradicts what Sovereign and Harbinger say about their goals. Still a lot better than the original ending, but for me, the real ending was, is, and will be, the Citadel DLC.

Mass Effect started as an RPG and has since evolved to more of an action game. The Characters, however, have stayed as beacons of excellent design to other games wanting to create their own iconic characters. With the new release of Mass Effect: Andromeda, and the recent excellent games from Bioware, I'm convinced we will see our beloved series return, stronger and shining as brightly as all the blazing suns in the Andromeda galaxy.
TheIceDragon Can you elaborate? In all ME titles you can play various roles through moral decision-making process. Hence the "role playing game". If you find yourself heavily involved into the plot-changing choices your game character makes, than you are playing a role playing game. It's simple really.
Kenneth Donnelly The focus from characters to combat is from ME1 to ME3 is definitely there-- ME1 had much more thought put in as to how new characters and lore was introduced, whereas in ME3 it's far less unique. Also, the implementation of the "LT / RT" renegade / paragon option... that was just badly implemented and was way too in your face compared to ME1
+TheIceDragon The term "rpg" has nothing to do with story writing methods of introducing new characters and lore: it is a game mechanic that lets the player character to be allowed to choice between more than one role in the story. The introductions of another characters just doesn't make a game a RPG, a RTS, racing, action etc etc
I cried so hard when I finished the game for first time, I was so emotionally invested in every second of all three games. You know what I thought was interesting? In this scene, we say goodbye to Shep and co. but when they leave, we don't follow Shep into the ship. Think about it. We've been with Shep since day one of this adventure...and now Shep has gone into the Normandy and is sailing off into the wailing dark yet again...this time, without us. We are left at the dock watching as Shep leaves us forever. In the words of a wise man, "It is a good end."

It's been a good ride.... The best... Anyone who was with Mass Effect from the year it released in 2007 up till then, probably shed manly tears. I was one of them. I am not ashamed.
What I loved about Mass Effect was the story. Even the ending which so many people hated. The characters, the music, the decisions as Commander Shepard, they all affected so many people and so many gaming industries. People say video games corrupt children, Mass Effect is a completely different story. It takes moral high grounds, it shows the consequences of our actions . What makes the game amazing in my opinion, is the warmth and comfort you can get from fictional characters.
This music's amazing, but at the same time makes me feel sad, feels like the end of a weekend... I'll start listen to this every sunday evening before goin' to bed. : (
Regardless of what was said about ME3, I'll never forget why I loved the franchise in the first place: it was about the characters; it was about being Shepard, and experiencing the galaxy that BioWare created. I'll never forget what an amazing journey Mass Effect was, and I'll never forget the feelings that we were developed along the ride. The controversy of Mass Effect was just a testament to how much fans actually loved the game.
I agree with you completely, this song along with Liara's song both make me pretty sad. Especially the last scene of the Citadel DLC. The best! It was an awesome journey, I'm just glad that it's in the form of a game so it's not goodbye forever, because whenever we want we can just load the game right up again, and see these awesome companions all over again.
This has got to be the best game I've ever played in my life. Most say ME3 wasn't amazing because it was too "cinematic." But it doesn't really matter. It's about the characters, the fight, the romances, and the feeling you get with each character. It's these that make the game so amazing. This is one game that will always live within my heart, and the game that will live in the hearts of many others.
Exactly. It was the greatest ride I've ever taken, w/ trips to amazing alien, foreign landscapes, to people & friends that'll always remain in our hearts & imagination. Not just characters who grew on us but ones so well written & put together that they were unforgettable even upon your first meeting. SPOILER! In the end fight, when the clone says "why you? Why you & not me? What makes you so damned special?" & then your squad-mates grab you...& that's what makes Shepard so special. It's them...
I wish I found Mass Effect when it first came out, but even though i'm not one of the longest fans of the series, it's still my favorite and I love every single game of the trilogy, even if I joined a little late; unfortunately.
