Probably the F 1-11.... But, to be fair, it's because I loved their " dump and burn" , and watching their wings move back into the Delta formation for high speed flying
F-4 Phantom Jet... mostly because I built a model with my Dad when I was a young whippersnapper and it hung from my ceiling in my bedroom. I'm guessing I went to sleep looking at it for years.
I remember the reason for carrying such a low number of cannon rounds was that the IRST "ball" also contained a laser rangefinder. This measured the range and angles to the target and the cannon would only fire when a hit was highly probable, cutting down on ammunition wastage.
I was 13 when the Berlin Wall came down and I remember my dad telling me at the time that the west was shocked by how advanced the helmet mounted sighting system in the Mig-29 was when they got hold of it from East Germany. There was also much talk of how rugged and relatively low maintenance the aircraft was compared to western counterparts. It was said that it could be landed wheels up in a field, lifted up by a forklift, landing gear deployed and take off again. I’m not sure how true that is
Unfortunately the engines would be toast, as would most stuff that sticks out the bottom of the airframe. Depending on exactly how rough the field is the radome and radar would probably take a pretty severe beating as well. The ruggedness of the Soviet era aircraft is actually quite remarkable though. That being said, in a former life I was lucky enough to work on a couple of different US platforms operated outside the US. After looking over a few US operated versions though, I realised how risk averse we were. The US platforms were in a much worse shape compared to ours but seemed to operate just fine and at extremely high tempo.
Believe it or not, the helmet to missile linked system was first developed by South Africa during the late seventies/early eighties as result of their border war in Namibia against Soviet backed Cuban forces. I know because I was … there.

My favourite fighter jet, just imagine loading this thing with modern tech, reworking the frame with composite materials, making the body more smooth...Would be a nice project, I think characteristics would improve dramatically.
The inside of Soviet jets was painted green because that colour is considered "pleasant for the eye, thus decreasing the strain on the pilot". Is that claim true? Don't know...
When these were pitted against the American F-15's in Desert Storm, they had no AWACS coverage and were shot down in droves and had to flee to Iran for safety. I'm sure in a close in 1vs1 engagement they would be very capable, but modern air combat is about so much more than just a close in dog fight. The Mig-29 has been around a long time, but it's combat record is just not any good.
The MiG 29 is one of the most beautiful Soviet fighter designs IMO. I like the Sukhoi jets too but the MiG 29 is gorgeous. It was a departure from the butthole looking planes that came before.

I see Australian Practical Engineering guy, I click🤣👍 I remember that this was one of the planes offered to my country during the 1990’s. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the plan for buying any fighter due to the 1997 Asian financial crisis, sticking to the F5A’s. We did replace in recently with FA50’s which have proven themselves in precision bombing.
From what I've seen actually regarding the export model MiG-29, they actually don't seem to be that limited compared to the version the USSR/Russia used (comparing the very first MiG-29A variant which is the variant that has seen the most combat I believe). I think most of the high loss rate comes from the MiG-29 usually being unlucky enough to be operated by countries that bit off a lot more than they could chew in war, especially seen in the Gulf War and Yugoslav Intervention where the rather small number of MiG-29s were fighting a massive Coalition that outnumbered them massively and also had probably bombed most of their supporting infrastructure like ground radars out of working order. Some other aspects I think regarding their worse performance was maybe lack of the R-73 (which is something Iraq lacked at least) which was the very effective missile that used the pilot's HMD to lock onto targets and maybe also poorer pilot training.
Could you make a video of how the British tailplane design for making sure the controls didn't lock up as aircraft approached Mach 1 was given to the Americans by the British governent and then it appeared on the Bell X1 which broke the soundd barrier?
Darn good looking design. I always thought the MiG-29 (and Su-27) really had masculine good looks and were warrior aircraft to go and blow stuff up. To me, the F-16 was almost pretty and the F-15, curvaceous - although deadly as frak…kinda like the Black Widow :) I really thought the Russian models were just aerodynamically superb looking, so unusual for a country that usually seems to go all out on function with no thought of form. Nato intervention in Kosovo: if you saying something, say it correctly. That was not nato (small letters) intervention in Kosovo, that was illegal and criminal action of 3 months bombing of whatever is left of former Yugoslavia at that time. True, number of Mig 29s were shot down at that time in very unfair 'combat'. They took off from Belgrade air base which is central Serbia, not Kosovo, which is south Serbia. Mig 29's, that 'short' Yugoslavia had, were in very bad shape and some debate is was it heroic or suicidal to confront that many nato planes which also had a tremendous support. So that is nothing to 'brag' about or even worth mentioning. It is like comparing grown man beating up 5 yr child.
NATO/OTAN (All capitals, it’s an acronym chosen by the organisation, not lower case). UN, again all capitals, sanction was not granted because of Russia and China’s veto power (surprise surprise). NATO decided to stop the ethnic cleansing of ethnic Albanians anyway, or is your argument that this should have been allowed to continue. Anyway, as the saying goes, play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Never understood why Russians still havent perfected the body panel alignment and smoothness on their jets. Seems like this outer layer bent hammered on the frame.
Serbia was under sanctions at the time, which means that the planes had not been serviced for more than 10 years, The second and no less important fact is that Serbia was attacked by 1,200 aircraft from all NATO countries, which means that at any given moment there were about 300 NATO aircraft over Serbia! Serbia had 16 MiG-29s and despite all that, the pilots still decided to take off and try anything to save the population, unlike air defense pilots, officers had a somewhat easier task, so at that time we saw the first shooting down of the F 117 with the S 125 Neva air defense system from the 70s, which shocked NATO pilots.
I’d say the SUKHOI is the backbone… the MIG-29 in RUSAF service not as important 😮 the Mig-31 however is very much used contrary to pre ‘war/smo’ theory 😮
Ummm bro he said f15 he didn't even say 35 but I think he meant f16 cause it has one engine f15 has two. But you ain't got to bee a dick and be wrong dumbass see how does it feel stupid. McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle has a combat record of over 100 aerial combat victories and zero losses. F-16 (76-1) and the F-14 Tomcat (135-4). Mig 29 and all variants 16/28 kill ratio. Beautiful jet.... but it's nothing more than a paper tiger just like most Russian military hardware
That’s simply not true. During Gulf war, Iraqi air force reported 23-24 planes had been shot down by the Coallition… On the contrary, the USAF claimed up to 40, of which eight or nine MiG-29s, then they lowered the figure to five, while Iraq admited three destroyed and one damaged in air combat… Also, the US claimed there were no losses on their side, but it turned out that the first kill of the Desert Storm was an Iraqi MiG-25 Foxbat which downed an American F-18 flown by a Top Gun pilot! Not only that, but according to Austrian researcher Tom Cooper, Iraqi MiGs managed to shot down American F-14 Tomcat on January 20th (fourth day of the war)! The Iraqis also reported to have shot down a British Panavia Tornado with MiG-29 (this, however, wasn’t confirmed nor by the British nor by before mentioned researcher…) and one EF-111 with Mirage F-1… Three more EF-111s were damaged by Iraqi MiGs, as well as the B-52 bomber (MiG-29 credited)
Problem for mig 29 losing to f15 and 16 is its lack of upgraded avionics . They fought against technologically superior airfoce ans non of the migs operating countries upgraded them using their own tech like Isreal does
Just needed a larger fuel tank, better radar, tactical link and one more screen to be amogst the best 4th gen. The updates came 20 years too late... Shame!
Soviet engineers took the blended wing/LERX from the F-16, and the lifting body pancake from the F-14. None of these things were secrets in the late 1970s
It is quite crudely put together. The quality control looks pretty poor. Besides that, the Mig 29 is a beautiful looking design. In many respects its performance is superior to the F 16.

Ok
NATO/OTAN (All capitals, it’s an acronym chosen by the organisation, not lower case).
UN, again all capitals, sanction was not granted because of Russia and China’s veto power (surprise surprise). NATO decided to stop the ethnic cleansing of ethnic Albanians anyway, or is your argument that this should have been allowed to continue.
Anyway, as the saying goes, play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Never understood why Russians still havent perfected the body panel alignment and smoothness on their jets. Seems like this outer layer bent hammered on the frame.
They would have done it if they felt they needed it
Do the MIG-28 !! 😅😅😅 /Mav
Id like to know if the Ukrainians had any 29s from pre-USSR breakup
Not many left now unfortunetly
Did you film this at the Dayton Ohio museum?
Yep
@PaulStewartAviation it's such an awesome place. Huge facility filled with amazing planes.
how US get this aircraft?
Bought them from Moldova in 1997. I think
Indian Air force 👌 still using this aircraft grt
Very rugged and very good. Americas fighters are princesses that can't get dirty, but superior equipment.
MiG = Mikoyan + Gurievitch
Thanks for the correction. I'll update this now.
I’d say the SUKHOI is the backbone… the MIG-29 in RUSAF service not as important 😮 the Mig-31 however is very much used contrary to pre ‘war/smo’ theory 😮
"Single engine, for better maneuverability, like F35..." 😂😂😂 - what you smoke, dude ???
Ummm bro he said f15 he didn't even say 35 but I think he meant f16 cause it has one engine f15 has two. But you ain't got to bee a dick and be wrong dumbass see how does it feel stupid. Good I can't stand you stupid ducks rather than help someone by saying hey man I think you meant whatever the fuck you Said that was wrong. So next time instead of listening to something and trying to be a dick and think you owned someone when really sir your the dummy. And I'm from Louisiana and maybe have a lil compassion
@@flanker8724 I'm sure the Iraqi numbers are as propagandist as your TH-cam handle... You should really change your handle to Flankerfanboy8724
@@flyingdutchman2195 Wtf you talking about
Problem for mig 29 losing to f15 and 16 is its lack of upgraded avionics . They fought against technologically superior airfoce ans non of the migs operating countries upgraded them using their own tech like Isreal does
mig!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just needed a larger fuel tank, better radar, tactical link and one more screen to be amogst the best 4th gen. The updates came 20 years too late... Shame!
I wonder if that spy was the last person ever named Adolf?
I know where this vid was recorded it was recorded in Ohio national air force museum
That’s correct :)
This plane kept Americans up at night.
Highly doubt it. Mig-29 was a tractor. F-15 was a Ferrrari.
@@shrimpflea your too funny joker 🤣🤣🤣
Soviet engineers took the blended wing/LERX from the F-16, and the lifting body pancake from the F-14. None of these things were secrets in the late 1970s
It’s not the backbone of the russian airforce but yeah ok
From 50 meters away it's a beautiful plane, up close it's a battered pile of scrap.
It is quite crudely put together. The quality control looks pretty poor. Besides that, the Mig 29 is a beautiful looking design. In many respects its performance is superior to the F 16.
0 stealth with those upper inlets louvers😅
I wouldn't want one of those. They tend to blow up both in mid-air AND on the ground.
Another Armenian creation
A pure masterpiece
Good job
Terors America and ingiltere Israel
Ok
