I had the honor of playing with him and getting to know him. He was a kind generous soul but yes also a troubled soul! This was very well done! It was nice to see some of these faces that I remember from the old Marin County days. I also recognize one of the backgrounds were Michael is playing to be Speedway Meadows. Boy, those were magical days with free concerts all over the place.
Michael was too good to be inducted in The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame,,, He was on another level,,,,still unsurpassed today,,,, He was for the music and of the music,,,,
Well, in a way he already is. When the Paul Butterfield Band was inducted he was a part of that. You're probably thinking as a solo artist he should be inducted and there's no argument he's probably on the ballot somewhere. His solo career is a little complicated because he didn't make the same kind of impact solo as he did with Butterfield or Electric Flag. And as a session guy there's a lot of people ahead of him just as deserving.
It's funny I'm 65 and have been a blues fan forever but never new about him until recently thanks to TH-cam. I would see his pictures taken in a studio with Bob Dylan and always wondered who is that dude. The internet is such a fantastic invention.
Jerry Garcia worked in a guitar shop in Menlo Park, CA in '65. He raved about Mike Bloomfield when he first came to S.F. with the Butterfield band and was excited to have the chance to see him.
Mike gave great interviews. His Rolling Stone interview was great and other ones like the Downbeat and Guitar Player magazine were just loaded with good information. When I was twelve years old he and guys like Eric Clapton chatting on magazines turned me on to all the Delta guys and the classic Chicago blues guys. Mike's exuberance was overwhelming and, damn, these blues resurgence of recent years could've sure used him. God bless you, Michael!
My favorite guitarist is Skydog but before that it was Bloomfield. As a kid discovering music in the late 60’s it was Super Sessions that did it for me. He influenced a hell of lot of people back then. Thank you Mike.
Yep, me too! Super Session was my second blues LP (the first was 'Live and Well' by B.B. King) and also Killing Floor with the Electric Flag. Wore out that vinyl but still have 'em. My garage band was a blues band while all my friends were playing rock because of Michael's influence on my music back then!
Same here bro my all time #1 favorite player was Hendrix or Clapton fo da longest Yunno ? But den I fuccin find out about Bloomfield n da Paul Butterfield blues band nd dat was it haha , Mike became my #1 favorite guitar player of all time , LONGLIVEMIKEBLOOMFIELD❗🤟🏽🤟🏽🖤💨🪐
He never got the credit that he deserved, but then I do not believe that he ever wanted it. During an era of huge egos amongst guitar players , he eschewed fame.
How did i not know about this! My father who played a couple times in chicago with bloomsfield. Gave me his super sessions record. He has been my favorite guitarist since.
When it came out I wore out two Super Session LP's but just last month, my good musician friend gave me the Super Session CD to wear out. ... I may still have time.
I also liked his interviews. He was a musicologist the way he would enthusiastically talk about music. He was so intelligent and articulate when he spoke about it. His opinions on music influenced me on how I feel and relate to music in general.
He was "the" first guitar hero. No one has ever matched his intensity. Take that RRHF. RIP Michael. You are a star whether you want it or not. There's no denying it.
First great White Blues guitarist before Clapton and Peter Green. All three different styles, great and important though. My personal holy trinity of white blues men. Michael was the the Blues!
His blues guitar gave me goosebumps. So pissed that G.E. Smith has Michael's Tele cut-away. That show-boaty hack isn't fit to gargle Bloomfield's balls.
It is a great disservice to the art form that Michael is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He wasn't the type of person to care about those things, But if for any other reason: so new generations might discover this brilliant artist more easily. He was truly and completely tapped into the pulse of American music in ways we can only observe.
True, but remember that Mike made his name as a member of other groups (i.e. Butterfield, Electric Flag) but didn't seem to stay long enough to make a name for himself and didn't do enough albums as a solo artist. So he'd be eligible as a sideman and there's a lot of competition there from musicians who came before him.
I first heard Butterfield Blues band in March of 1969 and hearing Mike Bloomfield it wuz like hearing the Beatles all over again. It wuz the blues but Bloomfield wuz that unique
I saw him play with Al at my first show at the Fillmore East on the bill with Butterfield (whom he did not sit in with). That was the Live Adventures show and he was brilliant. Mike is my favorite blues player of all time, and I've heard everybody. Check out "Blues on a West Side" for the consummate Bloomfield performance. I remember when I read in the SF Chronicle that he had died of a drug overdose (so many of the best were taken that way), my heart fell out.
I think he's just being candid. It was a fact and it had great consequences. When people say he was underrated I laugh because I thought of him as the top US guitarist from the first time I heard him at age 15 or 16.
We will never know the circumstances of his death.suffice that he left us treasure enough to last lifetimes of listening pleasure.RIP, mike, maybe you found peace. You had a rough ride during your time on earth. What a gentle soul he was. So is elvin Bishop. Complete gentlemen.Do you think you could even get close to a icon, like mike with all the security ? Things sure have changed in làst 20 years!
Ditto re. box set. I'll hunt around for it in the few remaining record shops in Sydney. I still get shivers listening to East West! Can't wait to hear more outakes from Highway 61.
Michael Bloomfield was so influential on so many levels back in the 60's that it's a crime that he's not in the RRHOF. Not that he would care about that sort of thing, but he certainly deserves recognition.
¡THE BEST OF THE BEST! There is no "Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame" at all if Mike is not there. It is just absurd! A "Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame" without Mike? are you kidding me?
“Stop” from the Super Session album Super Session (Bonus Track Version) by Mike Bloomfield, Al Kooper & Stephen Stills music.apple.com/us/album/super-session-bonus-track-version/288102551
It's crazy to think that Mike was already recording his first album for a major label but didn't yet have a proper professional-grade Fender guitar like a Telecaster or Stratocaster. That's how fast his star rose.
For a guy who is fairly plugged into the many avenues of listening to, and watching music-------How the Fu%!k do I get to watch this documentary ? Put it somewhere where we can f'n watch it !! Enough of this private shit...... Get it out there.....
Why are people so hung up on R&RHOF? IT IS NOT the Yardstick...the right of passage. It is still the high school prom. All politics and a type of good ole boys club. Way more Pat Boone than Elvis. Johnny Winter, Ten Years After, Qicksilver, and on n on
Robbie Robertson insinuates in his book that he blew Bloomfield our of the water when they played for Dylan. I can’t see Robbie playing like what we just watched. He couldn’t match that tone and he never elevated Dylan on his own the way Bloomfield did.
Very annoying, you have the same ad repeatedly coming right on top of where names/credits come out as a flash for a second, almost timed to cover up the commentator's name. I'll call it vevoannoyance.
I just don’t understand his death... ‘He was found seated behind the wheel of his car, with all four doors locked. According to police, an empty Valium bottle was found on the car seat, but no suicide note was found.[15] The medical examiner who performed the autopsy ruled the death accidental, though he was unable to determine a cause of death, because no drugs were found in Bloomfield's system, and there were no signs of foul play’
Mike is up there with the best of em all
We all miss Michael, praise his name,,,
Sunburst Les Paul + Fender Twin reverb + Bloomfield = the Holy Grail of electric guitar tone.
I have always preferred Tele Michael but I do like the Super Session tone
@williamschletzer451 try the sound of electric flags a long time coming album.
I had the honor of playing with him and getting to know him. He was a kind generous soul but yes also a troubled soul! This was very well done! I knew him very well, he was so smart yet so down to Earth. It's a sin he died so young, still makes me cry☮️✡️ Did you also know Butter?
One of the BEST GUITAR PLAYERS EVER, PERIOD!!! Miss you Bloomers.
Bloomfield was a troubled cat....but the man had soul. One of America's first "Guitar Hero's."
Michael was a sweet, beautiful person, too good for this world..this evil world.🥀💔
Michael was too good to be inducted in The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame,,,

At this point people say this about literally every guitarist.
The original.
Yup, he was the best, there's been no one like him since and they'll never be anyone who plays like him.
@@bassinblue People with no taste, yes. Popularity contest.
I liked the way he added Country licks into Blues.
Bloomfield is my favorite guitarist of all time.
Impassioned...soulful...clean...tasteful...masterly...One could argue the greatest ever...certainly the greatest blues guitarist ever.
I seen them all back in the day. Michael when he was on.....Untouchable. Best pure white blues player I ever seen.
Mike gave great interviews. His Rolling Stone interview was great and other ones like the Downbeat and Guitar Player magazine were just loaded with good information. Super Session. Period

I liked that too
He was a genius, the best human being I ever met. It's a sin that he died so young.☮️✡️
He was "the" first guitar hero. No one has ever matched his intensity. Take that RRHF. RIP Michael. You are a star whether you want it or not. There's no denying it.
@Thomas Farrell you could also add Chuck Berry, Link Wray and Hank Marvin to that list.
You heard Barry "he didnt want to be a rock star"

jennifersman Hmmm, very true.
Mike should be first in the Rock Hall of Fame ,He deserves it. Ask any guitar player.
The rock n roll hall of fame.is pure crap, they are in just because of the money
Michael Bloomfield was inducted to the RockHall in 2015 as a member of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.
This overlooked musician commanded so much respect that.... even Norman Rockwell painted him
Nothing better than this guy
I found Mike through my love of Dylan. I even bought a telecaster so I could emulate the tone he used. My favourite guitar hero
I first heard Butterfield Blues band in March of 1969 and hearing Mike Bloomfield it wuz like hearing the Beatles all over again. It wuz the blues but Bloomfield wuz that unique
One of my biggest influences. I think I wore out side one of Super Session more than once!

I just ordered the box set. Send Michael to The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
It's criminal for him not to be there.
he is going! with the pal butterfield blues band
the movie good?
Arguably the best blues player of his generation.
“I was a monster”... humble, too.

My favourite guitar-player, hands-down.
The one and only. There haven' t been any one quite like him since he died.

For those that know and appreciate his talent, the RRHOF is irrelevant as he stands up on his own
Deadly blues phrasing
I remember n th 80s Clapton made a statement i never forgot, he said blues were so limiting, nd he was on th money
This couldn't be a harder thing to watch... where am I not looking?
why is it so hard to fuckn find this movie... I'll fuckn buy it. idc. I just need it
Al Kooper produced a box set that has it. Three Cd's and one DVD , yep this film. I paid 30 English pounds, worth every penny.
Yep, The whole set, with the movie, is still available on Amazon for $41.
I saw MB play with PB blues band, at Ravinia Festival Park in 1969
I SAW HIM ,I SAW HIM IN CONCERT .WOW
Dylan's first gunslinger....time cant forget this pioneer

He's in with the butter band. he wont go in solo. Jann Wenner never liked Mike
...or Love or Steppenwolf. But they have Abba!
@@recordguy4321 not true
True he’s in the RockHall, but it was Jann who made that happen.
This is awesome
Michael had Balls & Soul (but still loved his Mom...right to the end.)
quote....he's not playing the instrument..HE IS THE INSTRUMENT.... Dylan's quote..the best I ever heard
Where? When? We WANT to know! This is a real Teaser! Damn just realized it’s 9 years ago!
Quiet humble indeed... but he could definitely get away with it. As a blues rock guitarist he was a virtuoso without a shadow of a doubt.
make this movie. release it. do it now.
Blind owl Mike Bloomfield and John Fahey my top 3
thank you!!!!!
The Super Session has been forgotten but it was really good.. Was The Song, "Stop"???
“ Wow 😳 “
RIP Mike stop the Hate✡️☮️💔
Sooo good and gone way too soon ...
Kids Today! It's baffling to think what they're going to look back on....sad state of affairs!
Superieure 👍👍
“Passion”
What songs are exactly played in this videos ?
Albert's Shuffle
I've got to think that Micheal was a major influence for SRV.
whats the intro song
Anyone know where you can stream or purchase this film on DVD?
WOW
What is the last blues song in the video called?
Cool.
How can I see this film?
Get the Bloomfield boxed set released by Sony’s Legacy Recordings. The DVD of the film is included.
😊😊😊😊😊
Shit... it took him 2 years to become a prodigy......
What's the second song that plays during this trailer? The one that starts up after Santana finishes speaking. Any ideas?
What is this song at 0:50 sec ?!!

still no movie?
Did he ever play with SRV?
Dexter Haven no not that I've yet to find. Buddy Guy and BB yes but but haven't found anywhere he played with SRV
Mike died in 1981. He never played with SRV.
its now 2018 any updates on the film?
Yes, it’s been easily available since 2013. Get the boxed set, it comes with a DVD of the film.
GOD
He was better than BB King. He probably just didn't know it. Or maybe he did but wanted to remain, or rather, appear humble and respectful.
Listen to BBs first few albums. Bloomfield cranked his amped but all the material comes from that t bone walker BB king style
what's the song at 0:45 ?
I think it's "Blues For Roy."
Did this film ever come out ?
It’s been out since 2013. Just get the Sony boxed set.
what is the name of the first song
Pima West Thanks
00:47.....or OMG, a freakin' Duo Sonic!

Yea its really mysterious. Also all his guitars were stolen at the same time of his death. Real strange
Carlos Santana’s hair 😂
Yes , he had a great pioneering style we all loved , But sometimes thae fearlessness of his playing was clay, sloppy at times ..
Cyndi Lauper, Madonna but NO Bloomfield, Trower, Buchanan or Rory Gallagher!!! What a joke the RRHF is....Bloomfield was a super blues guitarist..
fallen angel
And he became governor
