Went to Peterborough yesterday to watch a football match. The town centre is great, the cathedral is incredible, it has great pubs... on the river, great transport connections and countryside nearby. What more could you want. It’s diverse and possibly has issues with integration but with time I think more people will value Peterborough for what it is rather than blindly label it as a poor mans Cambridge

Maybe some culture?... The three theatres put on nothing but tribute acts now. The live music scene is terrible for as big a city as Peterborough. It's OK if you want a culture free zone, yes it has things going for it, but currently developers are greedily buying amenities up such as the market, and every other green space and building high-rises. In short, it is rapidly heading towards deserving this accolade.

There could be, but the people don't support our little Key Theatre, let alone lovely shops that have now disappeared. They only seem to want Pound shops and cheap family shops thats why. The corporation have tried to make it nice, but louts damage it. They should be fined at source, then it stands a chance. We all need to play our part with improving the standard ie litter and graphetti.

The vending machine in the bus garage is especially impressive. Less so is the fact that some rocket scientist had the notion that pouring concrete all over the city centre and building a shopping centre in front of an undeniably beautiful cathedral was a good idea. There are some pockets of nice areas - Ferry Meadows, Orton Waterville, Botolph Green - but the city centre is an absolute khazi.

Lived in 8 cities in the UK over the past 15 years! There are a lot of good things in this city. I have lived and worked in worst cities in the uk and certain parts of the uk very much comparable to so called 3rd world!. Peterborough is way better and no where near
those places in my view. Just wonder who would rate this the worst city and whatever criteria they have used to rate it seems pointless and unreliable. I have seen that most town centres are quiet and shabby in the UK anyways. The best thing in Peterborough is effortless driving without queues on the smooth parkways. There are a lot of green spaces and parks. Overall a good city to live in my view.

I was born in London but I grew up in Peterborough. It’s very unfair for people to give Peterborough such a bad reputation but then they’ve probably never lived here. Peterborough has many charms and it comes under as being rural which is probably why we always get overlooked. It has a 3,000 year old history so Peterborough is older than London (my home town) including the Vikings. Peterborough is the same as anywhere. It has its nice places and not so nice places. I have to admit some parts of Peterborough are rather grim especially in the suburbs. However altogether, it’s a a decent city centre particularly the cathedral. It’s only when the piss heads come out on a Saturday evening is when it gets daunting. There are however some nice areas to walk around outside the city centre too. If you think Bedford is worse than Peterborough then you haven't spent enough time in Bedford. Only the town centre and the immediate south aren't great in Bedford. In Peterborough, the deprivation extends over large distances. Multiple districts are also in the 10% most deprived areas of the country. Not a single area in the city is in the 10% most affluent either (very unusual).

I live in Harpenden and we go to Peterborough occasionally as it is near Cambridge, where my dad works. If I’m being honest it’s not bad but it certainly isn’t good as there is a lot to be done and the place itself is a bit dead with some crime added in but if those issues were fixed than it would be a great place as the locals there are very chatty and it has a wonderful cathedral. So it doesn’t really deserve the reputation it gets

WoW! What a great video! Thank you for sharing it with us! Peterborough looks so beautiful and modern now. It has changed beyond belief from the 1960's and 1970's, when i was born and raised there. I moved away, back in 1982, aged 20 years old, when i got married to my dear late hubby, Tony. Sadly my upbringing was very troubled to say the very least. I suffered a lot of bullying at home and at school. My Tony visited Peterborough, from Birmingham, in 1982 to go and see a mutual friend and that is how we met. A short time later we decided to leave as things were going from bad to worse with my so called parents and brother. I never looked back. Getting back to the video, the city really has changed so much, visually speaking. Thank you once again for this blast from the past. xxxxx

I agree. I lived there for 12 plus years. From 1986 - 1999. There were good things about Peterborough but a lot of bad things about the place too. 75 percent of its inhabitants were truly awful people who were biased, loud, gobby, rude, arrogant, narrow minded, piss takers, tension seekers, time wasters, compulsive liars, shit stirrers, users, gossip mongers and rumor spreaders. The list goes on.
Only 5 percent of them were intelligent whilst the rest of the 70 percent ranged from not very bright to being as thick as 2 planks. They were a night mare and they would give you a hard time if you're face didn't fit.
And it wasn't just the unemployed thieves, it was the straight people at work too. I was glad to see the back of the place.

    • @Brandon-gf5tw

The entertainment in Peterborough wasn't that great either. The night clubs were average, the bands were just tribute acts imitateting the real thing or playing tunes they all heared as a teen-ager back in the 60s, 70s,80s and 90s and so on
The only good thing that came out of that was scoring with women. There is worse places than Peterborough for entertainment though. But the best thing about Peterborough if you don't live there is don't get off the train when it stops there. Or if you're driving through then just stay for a day. But get out as soon as you can. Everyone knows each other there, if not directly then they know someone who dose know the other person. An other insane thing about Peterborough is that a lot of people would pretend to be something they're not. And they look stupid and pathetic. Yet they would think they were so cool. All dressed up and no where to go. Very boring and tiring people. Not to mention they were racist, sexists, and homophobic. They thought they were above and better than you at everything. They thought they knew it all and they thought the world owed them. They would pretend to be your friend and pretend to like then they would turn on you. That was the Peterborough I knew when I lived there. Half turned out to have mental health problems.

It's a nice place but the people are awful. Heavily Conservative, racist and Brexit supporting combined with being poorly educated and there being almost exclusively low paid / low skilled jobs in the city. It's like a city Sans enlightenment with opportunity taken out for good measure.
I own 2 rentals there, my dad's old place where I grew up and another. Both in bretton. My tenants are nice but the people they live next to are the worst.
I now live in crystal palace, London. Way better.

Thank you for sharing your view. Bretton actually is not the best area to live in. At least part of it. To me, you're right in many aspects. But similar picture we can see around whole the UK.
