    I seriously miss the days when simple fun and a day at an amusement park was the highlight of summer vacation. Great footage Scott, thank u.

    Sometime in the mid 50's, my family arrived at Edgewater for a day of fun. Unfortunately, just before we got there someone had fallen out of the roller coaster. I was just a little kid, but I remember all the adults being shaken by it. This, in turn, left me with a lifelong feeling of unease about going to amusement parks.

    My dad went there on opening day in July 1927 when he was 11 years old. He grew up at Lahser and Curtis Roads about a mile from the park.

    A couple things. We had the exact same rides at Riverview amusement park in Des Moines, Iowa in the 60’s & 70’s. Also, it reminded me of taking the Detroit River boat to Boblo Island in 1972. Did you ever go there? I’ve heard that area is now all condos or something. Sad…such a great memory for me!

    Great footage Scott. Bring back so many memories from the inside looking out. Take all of that equipment and move it to a new town once a week all year long. I view it with a nostalgic viewpoint but am in awe of how we moved all that stuff.
    Thank you Scott for a look back at my youth.

    We have an amusement park here in Upstate NY that has many of these rides. As well as a petting zoo and a water park.
    Also, we have the county fairs that come thru that have the same rides. Old fashioned fun is ways nice!

      @myracahill7409 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hear that the last of the wooden roller coasters is in Kennywood Park outside of Pittsburgh, PA! LOL It is a National Historic Landmark and opened in 1898. My Mom went there when she was little, my brother, my cousins and me, my cousins' children, and now my cousins' childrens' children!! After we moved to MD, we had Gwynn Oak Park, outside of Baltimore - much smaller but still fun!! Thanks Scott, for helping me remember!

      I think there's places that can convert your old home movies to DVD if you search around. Also maybe ebay might have a projector on there somewhere and you can record your films to your phone.

    Scott. I remember when My stamp washed off my wrist and faded a little from eating cotton candy. The ride operator wouldn't let me on the old wooden rollercoaster and thought He'd get away with disrespecting me and my "Italian" father. Wink wink. It soon took a turn that the operator would never do again. Disrespect another kid especially with a loving father a made man. My papa. Said to me and my brother to stay right here and I'll be right back. As we peeked around the corner through the crowd we seen I pop with his gun to the head of the operator .. Maybe one day you'll hear the rest. A little history for you. The church where Aretha Franklin service was held for her death and attended to is where Edgewater Park once stood. I grew up on McNichols "6mile" but you know that and mound east side technically Davison. My grandparents live on Westside Greyfield st. We'd frequently went to Edgewater and of course Boblo.. I live in orange county Newport Beach now. Like to come up to LA and meet you. Take you to our family restaurant in Marina del Rey. You probably can guess the names not They w.right..

      Yeah, the old Edgewater Park site is now Greater Grace Temple... Detroit's largest church (where Aretha Franklin's funeral took place).

    Off topic a bit, but what is the name of the old theater that you it seems had turned into a parking garage? I saw a post about on YT but can't find it. My heart breaks for Detroit so sad to see how it has run into the ground no matter who's fault is it..
